Let's Not talk about recruiting open thread

So I hate recruiting, hell Bo hated recruiting. I don't want to hear anything today about what some high school kid is going to do, so I'm offering up this open thread. What is the Women's water polo team doing? Are the Tigers a lock to win the Central? Who really shot JFK? Have fun with it, but I swear to god if you talk about some kid still in high school in this thread I will boil your kidneys in front of your face and eat em.

The newest cereal is called KRAVE, by Kellogg's.  It's a whole wheat crunch around a chocolate filling; there is a double chocolate version where the outside crunch is chocolate flavored too.

Major hit here, fellas.  My 10yr old had us try them this weekend, and we've been thru like 3 boxes already.  They are great without milk; but great with milk too.  Total snack food.  The chocolate is almost a dark chocolate, not the sickening-sweet kind that most cereals have.

Kelloggs clearly put effort into this one, test-marketed the crap out of it, and knew they have a winner here.  Majorly recommend you try this, if you like sweet cereals.

No, I'm not  on commission.

But does it have the crunch enhancer? Yeah it's a non-nutritive cereal varnish. It's semi-permiable. It's not osmotic. What it does is it coats and seals the flake, prevents the milk from penetrating it.

"That's some catch, that Catch-22," he observed.

"It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed.

He has good arm strength, thats for sure.  As for, whether or not he's coming, I have to think he will eventually.  It's just a matter of time.

If you don't want to talk recruiting then, in all honesty, i might avoid mgoblog for a little while because that's all that will be discussed for a bit.

A suggestion...start a thread about an actual topic and not an "open" one and you'll have your wish.

Not only is it recruiting season, but recruiting is the lifeblood of any program.  Also, it gives those who are football fans 24/7/365 something to talk about when they aren't actually playing games.

If I didn't want to follow recruiting, though, I would simply not click on recruiting threads.  It really isn't that difficult to determine which threads are about recruiting and which ones aren't.

It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Who was the best pro football player of all time?  My vote: Jim Brown.  He was as big as the lineman of his day and as fast as the wide receivers of his day.  He averaged over 100 ypg for his career.  I don't think that anyone has matched that.

Honorable mention:

Lawrence Taylor, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Anthony Munoz, Ed Reed, Ray Lewis...Jim Thorpe probably deserves his own special place.

Brown was more of a break-away threat than Payton.  As for Sanders, he was a less effective short-yardage back than Brown...Payton and Sanders were both great players, don't get me wrong.

Grew up in Chicago in the 70s and 80s so I have to give it to Da Man, Walter "Sweetness" Payton.  Guy was a workhourse, he was the team prankster, he never did a contract holdout even though he was on teams that crappy teams thought were crappy, he was a gentleman in public at all times.  Not so much into fidelity, that's another matter.

My anectode of Walter is this:  When he broke Jim Brown's record (against New Orleans, on a 7 yd carry early in 2d half in 1985), he got a call in the locker room after the game from President Reagan.  After the call, someone from the press asked him, are you a Democrat or Republic?  Walter's answer:  "I'm an American."  That's Walter, to me.

Now, the other name that has to be mentioned here is:  JOHN ELWAY.  Are you kidding me?  What an athletic freak. Guy could throw a baseball from home plate for a home run.  He was an awesome running.  He could throw 60 yard bombs that also went sideline-to-sideline -- on a dime.  He was the closest thing to a one-man team the NFL has ever seen; even Brady has Bellichek.  If you switched Elway and Montana's teams, Elways wins 5+ Super Bowls and Montana never makes it to the game.  Srsly.

Elway was more physically gifted, but Montana's feel for the game was almost supernatural.  He could also throw touch passes, which Elway didn't learn to do until relatively late in his career.

I didn't fully appreciate Montana until he moved on to the K.C. Chiefs.  I happened to be living in K.C. at the time.  Montana took the Chiefs to the AFC Championship game (with an admittedly very good defense) despite having an offense around him of guys who were either past their prime or who never had a prime.  He did this despite the fact that he couldn't move around much anymore and had to take a jump-step before he threw the deep ball because his arm had lost a lot of strength.  He overcame these things because his understanding of the game and poise were off the charts. He seemed to play a step ahead of everyone else, and his accuracy was nearly perfect...I'll take Montana over any QB that I've ever seen.
