Lets hear it for Coach Rodriguez!

Submitted by Blazefire on

Alright, so I knew I loved the Rodriguez hire when it was made, and I've been a supporter all along, and now that support is bearing fruit. I mean, really, it's been 5 weeks since we heard anything about a hot seat, and for good measure. I think we'll beat state, but even playing them respectably close should be enough to keep things quiet for now, since it seems like state is pretty good this year.

But I was just reading an article by Andy Staples (as linked in mgo.lico.us), and there were some figures I guess I hadn't realized.

The first time a QB passed for 2000 and rushed for 1000 yards in a season? Rodriguez. Pass for 300 and rush for 100 in a game? Rodriguez? And a million other stats that Pat White and now Denard have set since? All Rodriguez.

I don't know, I guess I knew most of this, but seeing all the stats in one spot, I was suddenly just struck by the idea that we hired a freaking evil genius to run our football team. You have no chance, Mr. Bond. Our schemes and techniques are far too advanced. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Really, lets just hear it for our evil mastermind. I can see him sitting in a pseudo-futuristic alcove now, gently stroking a Persian cat, watching video of some as yet undiscovered HS Sophomore QB, performing cold, concise mental calculations about how he can turn that kid into the first 4000 - 3000 performer.

While what RR/DR have accomplished thus far is very impressive, stats by no means mean championships. See Hawaii and Houston as exhibits A and B

That's about the worst analogy I've ever seen.

If this is what Denard can do as a sophomore, imagine what he will do as a senior!!! All that time with the mastermind that is Rich Rod, I can only imagine.

The RR hire HAS been great. TWO LOSSES IN A ROW to Ohio State. That's pretty good. In last year's game, there MIGHT have even been some records broken. I think you've got to go back to 1911 to find a UM QB who fumbled in the end zone (TD) and then decided to finish up the game by throwing 4 INTs. But I may be wrong on that, it may have been 1961. EITHER WAY, it's been GREAT!

Truthfully, I'm surprised by the offensive explosion this year. I mean, it's completely insane the numbers the offense is putting up. But you have to wonder, how bad is are the first 5 teams UM has played (VERY BAD), and how long can Robinson last? I know I'm worried that Pryor's the leading rusher on OSU's offense, but UM fans must go into catatonic shock when Robinson even looks PARTIALLY injured. HE IS YOUR OFFENSE. But let's be realistic here "Mr. Michigan Man", until RR can get some 4 star guys on defense that actually STAY enrolled for more than a few months, there is NO WAY michigan beats OHIO STATE.

Now you want to be rational.

Tell you what. You go write Tate Forcier a nice apology for the other thread where you implied he should have committed suicide, and then write a nice apology to the rest of the MGoBoard for the huge number of incredibly abrasive posts you've made in such a short time, and THEN go ask NotaBlueFan for a primer on how to be an intelligent, generally well liked and respected poster on a rival's message board, and then we'll talk.

If I could I'd plus you. When I went into the bar this weekend to catch 15 minutes of the IU-Indiana game there was one lone wolverine besides myself, he had to be in his 80's. When I walked in OSU was losing and the wolverine was minding his own business and 8 or so OSU fans surrounded him chanting in their drunken bourbon street induced stupor "F*ck Michigan". I told them all to piss off which they did when confronted with someone their own size. An older OSU couple came over and apologized saying "we're so sorry, not all of us are like them, can we buy you two a beer?"

It's sad when real fans need to apologize because of their dickhead fanbase.

TP gets hurt and your back to punting and hopping the O makes a mistake at there own end and you can kick FG all game.

If DR is 85% of UM 's O. TP is 80% of OSU's. thoses are the worst RB's I've ever seen at OSU.

Yes UM dose need a D and hopefully in time they can get back to old form. And let's be honest everyone was projecting doom and gloom after T. Wolf went down and now UM's way above everyone projections and it's only going up.

We almost beat you last year, and if it weren't for Forcier's 5 turnovers we would have. We moved the ball all game long, and our D came up with some huge stops.

This year, we have dilithium, you should be afraid. This year we have quarterbacks, plural, you guys do not. Better keep Pryor healthy or you may just eat those words there buddy.

Seriously now! What football team does not grow concerned when their quarterback gets hurt. Really does Joe Bauserman get you excited? I didn't think so. So let's drop the whole argument that our quarterback may get hurt. So far I am fairly certain he is a whole lot more accurate that #2 at OSU. Tell Brandon Saine or Dan Herron (I refuse to call that kid Boom) to start running the ball, then come on our board and talk crap.

Also while I am on my rant, YOU, an OSU fan is questioning our competition? REALLY? Marshall (1-4), Ohio (2-4), Miami (3-1), Eastern Michigan (haven't won in forever), Illinois (2-2)...so with all that there clear as day, you have beaten 1 team with a winning record.

In your words "Very Bad"

Michigan's opponents - UCONN (3-2), ND (2-3), UMASS (4-1) (yes I know, FCS, but still better than EMU or Ohio, and probably Marshall), BG (1-4), Indiana (3-1).

There are no world beaters on that list, but "very bad" would not be a good description, maybe sub-par?

With all that being said, coming onto a Michigan board, telling us how dependent on a QB we are, is ridiculous.

Go back to your hole, and just worry about your game this week.. Something tells me you have your hands full.

and OSU has played who? Miami? Please, it's been almost 10 years since they were relevant. Tressel has taken all of Pryors huge physical advantages and basically thrown them away making him much less effective than he could be. You don't think he looks at what Denard is doing and somewhat regrets going to OSU? Keep in mind you didn't win by much last year even with a fumble in the endzone and 4 INTs. What are you going to do when Denard is out there? Good lord, you struggled with Illinois. See you in November. We'll be ready.

keyboard covered in barbeque sauce, ranch dressing crust on the mouse, 3 crushed cans of moutain dew code red next to monitor. from his mouthbreathing standpoint though, it is hard to claim victory over the college football universe with 13 wins in 2.5 years.

Listen son, I know you think you're "totally burning those Michigan assholes, brah!" with your comments, but you're really just embarrassing yourself and your fanbase. If all you have to contribute are these immature, trite taunts, then I can direct you Freep.com, mLive, ESPN.....well there are dozens of places where your type of 8 year bravado is acceptable and probably even welcome. But here, this is where the grown-ups talk son, understand? This place, this....this isn't for you. Sorry buddy.

Rich Rodriguez has been my favorite coach ever since he took over at West Virginia. Even as a Michigan fan I used to love watching West Virginia games and seeing that offense roll along. When he was hired at Michigan I think I was one of the happiest people about it. I envisioned someone like Denard doing all these things in my head and now I am actually seeing it. It is amazing.

I no longer look forward to watching West Virginia play. With Gino Smith they look like any other team. A pretty good team but not much fun to watch any longer. As a casual fan I like watching Texas Tech with Mike Leach, Auburn, SMU, Georgia Tech, Air Force, etc. Watching something different is fun. I don't really like watching Alabama and USC Pro Style offenses, I can see that on Sunday.

This was a gutsy hire made by Bill Martin, Dave Brandon & company.

We RichRod fans have suffered through the lean years, but now he has every team in the Big Ten afraid of his team. And this is just the beginning!

I remember when he came in down here at Clemson, what he started with Danztler. When he left for WV, Clemson's offense went stale. Bowden just couldn't make the little tweaks here and there to keep it ahead of the defenses. WOO Rich!

It's taken me awhile, I'm still old school O and a punishing D. I finally came around due to his off the field personality and success. But Damn I want my D back. Bitching and moaning but D. Warren (CB) T. Wolf (CB)and the light to go on for Big Will and were only really a Safety away from having a very respectable D.

"Ok guys just keep them to around 21 and any turn over's we get will be icing on the cake for the 40 were going to put up on the score board."

It all comes down to "just win baby" as everyone's been saying around here. We said the same things after the first four games last year. I think it's safe to say that if the offense stalls out and we lose three or four games in a row his name will be coming up in the hot seat talks again. I don't think we see that happen, but with this defense anything is possible.

But yes, Rodriguez is one of the best offensive minds in college football at this point, and to get rid of him would be the worst thing for the program. Congrats coach, you've once again created an offensive juggernaut! Now shore up the D and we'll be on to something.

I mean, I think things like this-

I mean, really, it's been 5 weeks since we heard anything about a hot seat

Has everything to do with being 5-0. We'll see if everyone feels the same way Saturday night.

Because this-

but even playing them respectably close should be enough to keep things quiet for now,

Is absolutely insane. If we lose by 1 point in quadruple overtime, this board and everywhere else will be nuts, and it'll be a complete shit-storm, with us heavy underdogs to Iowa next week, possibly setting up 2 losses in a row, with a bye-week after that should be two weeks of hell if that happens.

I think we should win at home this week. And 6-0 beating MSU and ND, with wins to be had, things are looking pretty good. But to think we've weathered the storm yet....if we lose Saturday, we may have just been in the eye of the hurricane.

Beat the Spartans, please.

I was really surprised by the hire of Rodriguez, considering the personnel Michigan had on the roster. I assumed that T. Pryor was going to commit after Rodriguez was hired, and was really concerned when he did not. Would we have gotten Denard if Pryor had committed? Don't know, but I sure am glad we've got Denard Robinson to represent the Michigan program on the national stage.

I'm sure the Defense will improve as recruits see that the offense will score points. After that it's up to the coaches to prepare them... I like what I've seen thru the first couple of years. I can't wait to see what the future brings.

I had the opportunity to hear Coach speak at an event in Lansing on the day the NCAA sanctions were announced. Rich seemed like someone who had taken his punches and was ready to swing back, knew that he finally could. The team he inherited was over-matched, and had to be built back up. And now he was ready to go on the offensive.

He seemed more optimistic about this year, in years past he tempered expectations, this year he was ready to unleash hell.

I have no photoshoping skills, but the Face Rod is making in Blueinsouthbend's post would be perfect with this:

"On my signal, unleash hell"
