Les Miles...

The more I hear this fella talk the less impressed I get. Does anyone out there agree with me or does Mgoblog have me looking for better than average grammar?

The guy isn't stupid. The Ar-Kansas thing was just a little shot at Arkansas. There used to be a dispute on how the state's name was pronounced. He seems a little cocky, but I kind of like that in a coach. Sometimes his decisions are questionable and they make you roll your eyes. I really don't think he would have been a better coach. His system just would have fit in better and he probably would have had earlier success.

I don't think LSU will ever be the same since their Championship season in 07. They'll be a competitive team in the SEC and consistently ranked in the top 25, but never at the top like Florida or Alabama will be. I see them having success somewhat like the Michigan years after the 1997 season without a lot of conference championships but a lot of 8-9 win seasons and a couple BCS games sprinkled in.

...without "southernisms" creeping into your speech patterns. It's like one of the former catch-phrases here: "I am dumber for having read this." In the south, one often appears to be "dumber for having lived this." That being said, Miles did seem sorta like a "loose cannon" to me, and I was ambivalent when he appeared to be a "lock" for the UM job. I would much rather have RR than Miles; I think the reasons will become self-evident in two years.

Where have you all been the last two years? After hearing the many solecisms coming from our current coach's mouth over the past two years his grammatical mistakes were at first embarrassing, then expected, and eventually overlooked. A coach who cares about grammar and other more academic endeavors, like Carr did, is a rarity. Most, and especially those early in their tenure at big programs, care almost exclusively about coaching football. And rightly so - their job depends on it. Remember glass houses folks...
