Les Miles talks Michigan rumors

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

Apparently he was with a recruit last night and his parents said this-

“Last night, he really put a stop to it. My wife really wanted to ask the question, but she didn’t have to because of the dialogue we were having, so he just went and put it out there. He’s not going to do it. He told us he is not going anywhere and he is fine where he is at, and he is not going to leave what he has going on here. He kind of gave us that look of ‘I would be stupid to leave’. And the thing about it is it is built around his family.”

I would bet you $100 if he was sitting in a 2-star recruits house he wouldn't have been that adamant about it. He's not off the table, no way in hell....

When I initially read that quote it seemed fairly obvious that is what he had to tell a recruit while sitting in his living room. But then it occurred to me that Michigan may have already contacted him and told him they are not conisdering him, or contacted him telling him they have their guy already. In either of the latter scenarios, his response to the recruit was definitive nd accurate.

Of all the candidates Michigan is supposedly considering, he is the only one who has kept a stipulation in his contract that if he were asked to coach there, that he would be free to do so.

He never has removed that stipulation and he got a contract extension and raise the last time Michigan reportedly came calling to at least advise him he wasn't being considered to replace Rich Rodriguez who Michigan turned to after Miles told Mary Sue Coleman and Bill Martin in December 2007 he'd come back to Ann Arbor to replace Lloyd Carr.

But when news leaked the week of Miles SEC championship game, he denied on camera in front of LSU's AD and president that he ever considered an offer from Michigan.

So, which lie is bigger? He may be stupid to change horses at this point. But you get the feeling, at least I do, that he's got no reason to say otherwise. And he still has that condition in his contract. Miles would come to Michigan if were asked. He will not, however, slit his professional throat by declarinng anything other than undying support for his present job.

The contract language states that Les has to pay LSU $1.25 million if he leaves to go coach Michigan.

That was A LOT of money in coach land in 2008 when it was added.

And if the rumors are true, he was willing to pay it and come here right after he signed that extension and won the NC.

Instead we got RR.  God we're stupid.

What is it with guys and top ten lists of girls? A boy in my daughter's sixth grade class has a top ten list. The number one is my daughter's best friend. Of course, when my daughter told me, she added, "It'll never happen."

I'm a little sad that there are Coaches out there that once loved the University of Michigan and it's Football Program that no longer have the desire to come and lead the program back.

Has Michigan lost its once renowned name as a top program?

If not, then why are they not taking the chance to lead us back to greatness?

Do they think there is something wrong, distasteful or hopeless about the program?

It just seems that the love for a program that has meant so much to you and has had such an impact on your life would never dissappear!

Look at OSU and Coach Meyer! He basically retired from a school that he could get any recruit he wanted and he was successful at every aspect, so that he could coach his "Dream Job"! Why is that no longer the case at Michigan?

Many recruits or parents love revealing these types of recruiting conversations to the public.

THE COACH TOLD ME HE WAS STAYING Y’ALL!!

HE AIN’T GOING NOWHERE!!

It’s the Ole Trick-A-Roo-Ski… almost like a form of blackmail.

Since they don’t trust what’s being told… they tell it to the media and anybody who will listen. This way if it’s a lie or the coach changes their mind… the coach will possibly look bad.

The recruit/parents think now the coach will feel pressured into keeping their word, when the kid commits to the school.

Though the public has pretty much accepted the fact that coaches sometimes have to tell white lies, when it’s about leaving to coach at another place.

So this little form of blackmail doesn’t work as well as it might've back in the day. If Les is possibly Plan B after Harbaugh… I don’t think this will affect his decision at all.
