He didn't say he hasn't been contacted. He said he hasn't spoken to Michigan. Could mean the search firm talked to him. Could mean his agent has been contacted.

Why would Hackett have contacted him. Miles has a bowl game to prepare for, along with every other college candidate. If he is a candidate he will get contacted on the 29'th if JH says no. We don't know if JH is coming here but it is safe to assume that Hackett is going to offer him the job after the season is over. Then if he is turned down he will be able to start contacting college coaches. I don't get why people think this hire was going to happen soon when you all know damn well Harbaugh is getting an offer at the very least. And since Harbaugh has not said he is not a candidate, we have to wait for the 49'ers season to end before anything else happens.

that we have a much better idea about Jim on Tuesday than right now. I don't see him being fired as they'll try to get something but I think he could be ornery enough to just say he isn't interested on Monday. We can't start the plan c search on Jan 3rd. I think the New Year-Jan 3rd is our latest to have a coach named/hired.

I agree on that the agants can talk. I don't claim to know much about the process but how would that conversation go? Agent "yes, my guy might be interested" Hackett "ok cool, well get back to you in a month if we are still interested" I don't know maybe that is happeneing but it just seems lame. I mean a lot of things can change between now and January, someone who is not interesed now may change their mind and vice versa. I guess I can see it going that way but it doesn't make sense to me.

Michigan calls and ask if your client is interested. Everyone knows Harbaugh is their first choice, but that they may want to move quickly if that doesn't work out. If your client is interested, why wouldn't you say so? You're giving them a chance to vet your client. We saw how fast Florida acted. You want your client to be the next in line. Michigan isn't leaking names, in case that's a concern.

If you're Michigan why wouldn't you want to line up your second or third choices? You want to be ready in case you don't get Harbaugh. Time will be of the essence at some point. It would be irresponsible to find yourself scrambling at the 11th hour unnecessarily. Beyond that, knowing what kind of interest is out there puts you in a much better bargaining position. If Harbaugh asks for more than you're comfortable with, it would be nice to know whether you have a very good alternative available.

(I know I've said this a million times and haven't said why in a couple years for legal reasons) but I'm not kidding that I'd accept his hiring should the plan "A1,2,etc" guys don't happen. I may not like him but I'll never say he's anything less than a good coach if personality is not accounted for. I'd grit my teeth, smile, accept him, rally behind him and hope for the best. We all need to do this with whoever the next hire is.

Hackett himself made it clear to the fans and everyone else that this process will take time if we need to get someone worthy..and he asked everyone to be patient

Was I the only one who got the feeling from Hackett's presser after Hoke was let go that Miles may have moved down the list a bit? The tone of Hackett's presser and some of the known eccentricities of Les Miles made it seem like they weren't perhaps so high on him. I could definitely be wrong, of course, but the tenor of that presser didn't scream "Miles" for some reason.

One way or another this has to end soon. Too many people here (myself included) have ceased to have a life outside the constant quest for CC information. Not just any CC information mind you, only that information that fits with what we want. We need JH and we need him soon.

This almost strikes me more obvious he has been contacted at least through hid agent or search firms. Had he wanted to squash rumors he would have added something like "...and if they did I'd tell them I'm not interested".

Didn't Hackett say he didn't want any "shenanigans" with his next coach? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Les never gets a phone call.

I don't really see all the hype about Miles anyway. He's old, his best days look very much like they're behind him, and his glaring weakness at LSU is the one thing we so desperately need to work on. He's never produced a good QB, and his offenses are average at best. Sounds like a slightly upgraded version of what we have now.

The defenses would be better and the recruiting would get back at least to where it was under Hoke, likely better. I'll concede that. But Miles has never been known for being able to cultivate a good offense. Something that we lack in spades right now, and has lost us a lot of games over the last 2 years.

Not saying the offense wouldn't be better than it is now. It would, although anything is better than what's out there now. But he can't develop a QB, and his offenses are vanilla at best.

That having been said, I'd take Miles over Schiano in a heartbeat.

The "hype" may have something to do with people liking double digit win seasons and MNCs?

Shenanigans are something any coach can be linked to, its the nature of the beast.  Not looking at that as profound or determining.  JH and Miles are still very much in this horserace with JH in the lead.  No  turndown of an offer from either publicly speaks volumes.

Sounds to me Les is fishing for an offer. Whether we would extend one, or he would accept it doesn't matter. His response sounded like a girl hinting to be asked out
