Seriously, I'm behind Leon Hall for DB Coach, similar to the Hart/Wheatley for RB Coach sentiment. We need a DB coach who knows the position (need coaches who know what they're doing; where have I heard that before?); we have way too much DB talent on this team rotting, regressing and otherwise flailing around under a guy that doesn't know how to coach the position...

from the time he set foot on campus.  I remember he was a relatively unheralded 3* DB from Southern California.  But, he saw the field almost immediately as a freshman (which was pretty unusual for Lloyd era defensive backs.  And he made the most of it, making some interceptions and playing really well.  He never seemed to be the most physically impressive athlete, but he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.  Definitely one of my favorite Michigan DB's of all time.

Hall was a 4 star, and an Army All American. So it's not like he was some guy the coaches pulled out of nowhere, Still though, a great player and he did great things throughout his career. He must have liked it here, because if I remember correctly he married the daughter of one of the Detroit news anchors.

It was back in 2006, but yeah, Jessica Cobb is the one you're thinking of, I believe. She is the daughter of Carmen Harlan of WDIV and her first husband. I think he used to say that going out to dinner with her parents was a relief of sorts because, especially here in Metro Detroit, Harlan was far more famous.

Im curious as to why you would think at this moment that either would be first rounders. peppers was hurt the whole year. Not a good sign at all and lewis isnt even the unquestionable number one db on a team full of crappy dbs.  A lot of fans put stock into how many of their teams players get drafted high which is hilarious. The draft is a bunch of ego driven old guys guessing which young guys THEY think will be good and obviously its just that .....guesswork. brady 6th round, griese third, henne third, grbac 8th...... tebow first.   hall shouldnt have been a first rounder but some coaches get obsessed with numbers.... speciffically the 40 which he ran an impressive 4.35. Why do so many people put so much emphasis on the 40 speciffically for dbs. Theyre running backwards most of the time and very rarely do they turn and run 40 yards. Just because a team has alot of first rounders doesnt really mean much. The 97 team had a TOTAL of three players taken in the first... woodson98 and backus hutchinson 01 I believe and they didnt do too bad as a team.

Interesting to note 0 plays against Ohio State in there. I don't remember his performance against OSU while he was here, but is it because those clips just weren't included, or did he not really have any big plays in those games?

quote from the IU highlights that made me sadz... "you know when you're at michigan you have 5 steve breaston's"... i remember those days, it seems like it was 20 years ago when we had top notch athletes everywhere...

most overrated dbs Ive ever seen play at michigan. He was an all american basically by association.... back then if you played at michigan since you were a freshman then by your senior year.... all american. Ever since woodson it seems like basically every year michigan gets at least one highly coveted db and with the exception of ernest and marlin, they seem to always come up way short.... whitley, hendricks, boubacar, warren, emillien to name a few off the top of my head. Hope that leon can pull through these injuries and have a productive career in the nfl.... just wish he was the shut down corner at michigan that i had hoped he wouldve been

That is a massively ill-informed post. The guy is still playing in the NFL and was one of the best five or so corners in Michigan history. Name me guys other than Ty Law and Woodson who played his position, were All-Americans, and then played 8 plus years in the league.

i watched that guy play every down he was here. Jackson is one of the guys who falls under your guidelines which is exactly my point. Michigan gets highly rated corners almost every year that really dont pan out. He has had maybe one or two good years in the nfl and id bet that if cincy could go back in time they wouldnt have drafted him.

Marlin Jackson was another superb corner. He only played six years in the NFL though. Hall's longevity speaks volumes about his talent. Hall was a Freshman All-American and played in 13 games his Freshman year. If your argument is that he was the product of a good system and rose to stardom simply by waiting his turn that too is wrong. He was outstanding from the time he set foot on campus.

just opinion. And mine is that Leon was overrated as an all american corner. His longevity...we'll see. He played 5ish and been hurt the  past 2ish. Being an all american in a season is an opinion based on all sorts of variables.... stats, visibility, past performance, other players performance relative to the position, play calling, yada yada yada. Blake Countess was a freshman all american andlast year first team big ten with 6 picks... a lot for college. Still whenever hes in coverage.... im not too confident. Corners are really hard to evaluate. On one play they could get burnt and the qb throws it right to them.INT. Another play perfect coverage and the qb throws it perfect wr makes an amazing play. TD. Ive watched michigan for a little bit and theres always players that are over/underrated. ive always felt like he was one.

Are you talking about Tommy Hendricks?  He was a safety, so that's a different position first off.  Second, he played at the same time as Woodson so he didn't come afterwards.  I'm not sure how high Tom Lemming rated Hendricks since it was basically him and a couple other guys rating players, but he was one of the better safeties to play here over the past 30 years.

I have nothing nice to say about Whitley since we had "words" after an IM basketball game, but none of those other guys had Woodson-type hype except for Peppers.  And just about everybody that Michigan recruits, with the exception of some legacy kids, are usually highly coveted.
