Leon Hall for MVP?

Submitted by Beavis on

I know everyone is on the Charles Woodson bandwagon (as am I) but I'm here to post why Leon Hall should get consideration.

Leon Hall: 56 tackles, 5 INTs, 19 Pass Def, 2 FF
Charles Woodson: 61 tackles, 8 INTs, 14 Pass Def, 4 FF

OK, so looking at those numbers Woodson has a lead in everything but PDs, but that is a big category for CBs.

Looking at Leon's opponents by week, though:

1) Brandon Marshall - 4 rec, 21 yards
2) Greg Jennings - 0 rec
3) Santonio Holmes - 1 rec, 18 yards
4) Braylon Edwards - 0 rec
5) Derrick Mason - 0 rec
6) Andre Johnson - 8 rec, 135 yards
7) Devin Hester - 8 rec, 101 yards, 1 TD
8) BYE
9) Derrick Mason - 3 rec, 31 yards (13 targets!!)
10) Santonio Holmes - 7 rec, 88 yards (but 14 targets)
11) L. Murphy - 1 rec, 29 yards
12) M. Massaquoi - 1 rec, 12 yards (8 targets)
13) Calvin Johnson - 6 rec, 123 yards, 1 TD
14) Sidney Rice - 4 rec, 39 yards, 1 TD (but 9 targets)

Looking at his "bad" games, they really weren't that bad.

Week 6 - 12 tackles, 1 FF
Week 7 - 7 tackles, 2 INTs, 4 PDs
Week 13 - Was he hurt? Looking at the stats, this would have been a bad game (1 PD)

And his averages look like: 3.3 rec, 46 yards, 0.2 TDs per game. This includes three shut outs.

Looks pretty phenomenal, no?

(and yes, I realize the counter argument is "he probably didn't cover these guys every play and they do play some zone D", but given the data available, this is the best I could do)

how bout not only did he not cover these guys every play, but Jonathon Joseph covered them on most plays?!?!

Taking nothing away from Leon, as he's having a great year, I do think this a particularly redonkulous argument. Woodson is changing games and making HUGE plays every week.

LOL? Child please.

If you took a look at the stats from each team's #2 WR, he would look even better! Good lord man....

(I must admit I got this idea from an ESPN the Mag article that showed his stats through the first six weeks and basically said "he's having an unreal season")

Can we agree that you just got carried away with your love for Hall? He is having a great year. He is probably in the top dozen corners in the league right now. He is not on Woodson's level. Not even close to be honest.

I disagree about looking at the stats of the #2 WR. Holding Mohammad Massaquoi to 8 rec for 148 (week 4) does not make him look better.

Again, I want to stress that Hall is having a great year, but MVP! Not defensive MVP or All-Pro. MVP.

C'mon man!

Looking at Woodson I get an average of:

3.9 rec, 56 yards, 0.5 TDs

(compared to Leon's 3.3 rec, 46 yards, and 0.2 TDs)

Also, you could argue that the talent Leon Hall has faced has been better. The AFC is slightly ahead of the NFC and Leon faced Andre and Calvin Johnson, while Woodson's best opponents have been Calvin Johnson (only once - he was hurt in the first matchup) and Sidney Rice.

And again, this data is anything but exact - but it's the best I can do.
