If you can dodge a pom pom, you can dodge a ball.

balls are hitting his face too?

He didn't not say that...

There's a tie-in joke here somewhere to go with M-Wolverine's "balls in the face" comment ....searching.....searching.....I just can't seem to come up with it, damnit!

Well, there goes your social life.

I don't always grab pom poms, but when I do, they are "pom poms."

Clearly, kids have different standards today when it comes to drunken girls flailing.

can't tell if you're serious, but anyhow Sam Webb said this morning that he doesn't expect either Hand or McDowell to commit this weekend. He did say that if anybody commits right after the game that it would more likely be HS juniors.
September 5th, 2013 at 11:35 AM ^
Oh the two, I could see McDowell committing before Hand. Hand already has a announcement date set (which is his birthday too I believe), so even if his mind is made up, he'll still probably wait until then. McDowell has been up in the air with when he is going to make a decision. Although he seems to be trending towards later, I could see him committing this weekend, but I wouldn't not hold my breath for it.
Of the 2015 guys, I think we're a lot more likely to get a commit out of this group. In ranking of odds of commiting it'd go for me: Wheatley, Hilliard, Cornell, Cole, Weber, Alabi and then the rest.
The guy who I would put the most money on committing this weekend though is probably 2016 OL recruit Erik Swenson
September 5th, 2013 at 12:17 PM ^
And we know how that works with Hoke & Co. Neither one will commit this weekend.
September 5th, 2013 at 12:28 PM ^
Although I agree, I think that it's not impossible. McDowell has seemed close to commiting a few times already, and because he has no schedule set up going forward (no visits or decision date) I think that there is a chance that he breaks away from his original plan. It's happened many times before. At one point, I remember Peppers saying he was going to take al his officials then decide at an All American game, and see how that turned out? Plans change, especially when there are no plans in stone and a kid knows where he wants to go. Not saying it's likely, I'd actually say that there is less than a 5% chance, but I would not completely rule it out.
Also, interesting side not, per his 247 page McDowell is not making this an official visit, so we might get another official later in the year from him (I'd guess for The Game). Or he might use it to officially visit 5 other schools. Hopefully it's the former.

C'mon, Hand. Take the job.
(Wow. Sometimes I even furrow my brow at MYSELF.)

Every person who is able should be waving a pom pom because it looks freaking awesome on television. Some of the shots of the student section in 2011 were so awesome and gave me goose bumps every time. It was usually during that song (and I forget the name of the original song from the 70s) where everyone goes, "ohhhhh oh oh oh ohhhh ohhhh." I love that chant and I know just about every football crowd does it at other games, but it's still awesome.
September 5th, 2013 at 10:46 AM ^
those crazy 70's ohhh oh songs are the best!

I prefer the dunnnn dun dun dun duuuun duuuuun songs.

Crazy that's it's been 40 years already. I definitely remember that song coming out when I was -18 years old, it'd definitely felt like I was 12 though when it came out.
September 5th, 2013 at 12:08 PM ^
but I thought that songs was from like 2003. Is that version a cover?
September 5th, 2013 at 12:16 PM ^
Nope. The original song is definitely from the 70s. The chant that crowds do comes from the bass guitar rhythm.
September 5th, 2013 at 12:23 PM ^
It's White's electric tweeked but it does sound like a bass.
September 5th, 2013 at 12:26 PM ^
but Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes was released in 2003; Jack White wasn't born until 1975. Unless it's a remake (and I haven't seen anything to suggest it is) the song is only ten years old. Also according to Wikipedia the bassline is a semi-acoustic guitar, not a bass guitar.
September 5th, 2013 at 12:32 PM ^
Well whatever. I'm not a huge rock-n-roll guy, so I don't know the details of the ridiculous amounts of different guitars in this world.

September 5th, 2013 at 1:34 PM ^
artfully dodging his ridiculous repeated assertion that it's from the 70's.
September 5th, 2013 at 2:05 PM ^
It is definitely a 70s song.
September 5th, 2013 at 2:19 PM ^
That it is not.
September 5th, 2013 at 5:09 PM ^
Where and how exactly did you come up with this notion?!!
September 5th, 2013 at 6:30 PM ^
I applaude your dedication.
September 6th, 2013 at 11:15 AM ^
It's not only not a 70's song, it's not a cover either. The name comes from the fact that when Jack White was a kid, he thought the Salvation Army was the "Seven Nation Army".
September 5th, 2013 at 5:12 PM ^
This here section of comments has been one of hilarity.
September 5th, 2013 at 1:54 PM ^
Although it should be noted, he used a DigiTech Whammy to drop the guitar down an octave, so it sounds like a bass guitar.
September 5th, 2013 at 2:16 PM ^
I always assumed "according to Wikipedia" meant you were no longer accountable for what came after.
September 5th, 2013 at 3:14 PM ^
Ahh now that I re-read it with my sarcasm detector going, I sense the sarcasm I missed. Didn't think it was from the 1970's

You may need to recalibrate it, given the subsequent responses by the same guy.

One of my favorite things of the season. The alumni/fans complaining about how the students don't show up and how it looks terrible on TV. Then complain pom pom suck because they're annoying and ruin the experience, but still admit that they look awesome on TV.
September 5th, 2013 at 4:13 PM ^
You have one too few “Oh’s”...said the husband.
September 5th, 2013 at 11:42 AM ^
the pompoms, I just wish we could have some blue metallic pom poms instead of maize. My kids always pick up extras and we have a million maize pompoms at home. I also think the metallic blue would look good on TV. But, I know the yellow looks good on TV. What would be cool are the light up foam sticks they gave out at Yost last year. I think the bracelets will be great. I will have to scoop some extras for the kids.
