Leaked Emails From Texas Tech/Leach Contract Dealings

Dr. Saturday threw these up They're a decent read if you're bored/interested in the situation at TTU. Leach comes off sounding kind of like the eccentric coach, smart but unfocused and high strung in some areas. The administrators in my mind sound like they're more conservative and stick in the mud types. Check out Page Three, where they talk about plans to fire Leach at the end of the 2009 season. These emails were sent in Jan 2009. Looks like the admin was looking for any reason to terminate with cause. To me it kind of brought the problem in to focus. Top football coaches have to be self confident, able to sell themselves to recruits and convince everyone their system is something you want to come play for. So they're going to have egos and otherwise be very self assured. As an AD at a top school you kind of need to stroke the coaches ego and work around him as opposed to directly coming at him. Imagine if some AD tried to mess around with the day to day affairs of Bo's program (or even Lloyds). Bo would have shut that down right off the bat. It is kind of coming off as a comedy of errors. The TTU Admins have no idea how to roll as a big name football program in top bowl games, while Leach feels like he should be getting the respect Meyer, Caroll and all those guys get. In the end neither side really backs down and it just goes south.
