Leaders and Best in 50 States: Ohio Winner
Well, no surprises here; Woodson was named the winner of MGoBlue.com's Leaders and Best in 50 States (+ DC and PR).

Sorry if you were putting a diary together, Shoe. You can paste your collage here or start your own diary (I won't be offended).
The winner for the state of Michigan will be announced later today.
Thanks for posting this! Glad to see the obvious choice selected, no suprise here.
...WW. Woodson is the obvious choice in an extremely strong field. Consider:
Pretty damn impressive. OTOH, the California result was a head scratcher. You know that I've pushed back on the notion that every one of these honorees should be a football or basketball player, but the selection of Tyler Clary (a highly decorated swimmer) over Tom Brady and Jim Harbaugh was just odd. It's not like they needed a men's swimmer to balance things out after selecting nine other men's swimmers (10/52 is a pretty high ratio).
You can vote for the honoree from Michigan here: » Vote for the best Wolverine from Michigan
The candidates are:
- Bennie Oosterbaan (Football, Basketball, Baseball)
- Jim Abbott (Baseball)
- Tiffany Ofili (W Track)
- Peter Vanderkaay (M Swimming)
- Rick Leach (Baseball, Football)
- Rudy Tomjanovich (M Basketball)
Pretty stiff competition.

I don't think Woodson is the obvious choice at all, in fact if I would have bet money, I would have put it on Desmond. Not that I'm disappointed in Woodson at all (he's my favorite player all-time) but they are both Heisman winners, so hardly a no brainer.

But Woodson did help win a NC and is the only primarily-defensive player to win the Heisman. Both are damn fine athletes, but I can see why Woodson won the accolade.
Howard had a career season, one of the best ever.
Woodson had more of a career.
(this is actually the argument I usually make in AC vs. Desmond...AC four years of gold, Desmond one season of magic).

..I was hoping Abbott would show well, and I'm not surprised that Oosterbaan was the winner. Such an impressive list of accomplishments as a student, coach and AD.

and open to questions and debate.
It's why we like this type of thing so much.
I would like to compliment MGoBlue for tackling this. It has been fun and interesting. While I am not always in agreement, it has been entertaining.
