LB Mike Jones Broken Leg
Haven't seen this posted yet, but just heard word (credit varsityblue Twitter) that Mike Jones has a broken leg. I believe he was playing WLB behind Jonas Mouton. No idea how long he will be out for, but he will have surgery.
EDIT: In addition, Brandon Herron has a sprained ankle and is day-to-day.

how? when did this even happen? I don't recall being drunk enough to miss it...

Andy Reid over at Rivals just posted the Week 3 depth chart, noting that Jones broke his leg during the ND game (though I have no recollection of this happening), which leaves Leach as the backup to Mouton at WLB.
Blargh.

I wish him a speedy recovery. Guess I missed the part when this happened.

He's been getting some PT on passing downs according to the UConn UFR if I'm remembering correctly. That's too bad for Jones. I hope he can still get a medical redshirt if it's a long term thing, but here's hoping it's one of those slight fractures you can recover from quickly.

i think he was getting playing time in the nickel-package. Feel better Mike Jones

If I remember correctly there was an injured Michigan player in the first half but the camera never showed his number. I forgot about that in all the excitement, but just a wild guess here that the player was Mike. With surgery, I hear that injuries like this can heal in 4-6 weeks, again just a guess though.

I think that is when Herron got hurt. Glad to see that it was only a twisted ankle. I was at the game Saturday, but DVR'ed it and watched it again on Sunday morning and noticed that Leach was in the game for a couple of plays in the 2nd half. That would make sense now with the news that Jones got hurt during the game....Here is hoping for a speedy recovery for both of these players...

He may have broken it on a play where he was supposed to come out afterwards anyway, and he kind of limped off not knowing how bad it was before he got off the field. If it were not broken clean through, that might be possible.
This isn't TOO terrible. If it's not joint damage, bones heal up fast and well.

must have been the fibula for him to be able to walk off the field and not draw any attention. damn though probably at least 6 weeks if a surgery is involved.

I see what you did there... +1

I like how our injuries are coming at our positions with no depth (linebacker, cornerback) and not, say, offensive line or slot receiver.
Not that I'm wishing ill on any OL or SR, but yeesh.

that's a dramatic dropoff in speed.

Yeah, running on a broken leg will definitely slow you down.

Double post, sorry. Apparently my computer can't get enough of my bad/inappropriate comments.

Can Moundros play Mouton's position as well?
September 13th, 2010 at 11:59 AM ^
so Ezeh could move over and Moundros could play the middle. Not sure how I would feel about that.

Can Herron move over and backup at WLB when he isnt giving Roh a breather? I thought Herron did decently when he was out there against ND and seems like he provides more speed than Leach.

Has a photo of Herron with his leg bent backwards:

Ahhhhh, why did I click on that! You said what it was, I thought, "gross, I don't want to see that," and then...CLICK..."aw, gross!"

seriously. we are fortunate that he wasn't injured worse

Is Marvin Robinson as guy who can potentially fill in here?
September 13th, 2010 at 2:34 PM ^
No. He's playing Bandit, and there's no depth behind Kovacs.

Lucky for us that Mouton is playing extremely well so far this year.

Do you think JB will get some looks at backup WLB? I know WLB is an ILB spot as opposed to the OLB/rush-LB spot where he's currently sitting on the 3-deep, but it seems he got some PT last season at one of the ILB positions.

I'm not sure. Brandon Herron (the backup to Roh) is also probably out this week due to a sprained ankle. I'd guess that Fitzgerald will be the backup to Roh, and Leach will be the backup to Mouton. That's a lot of injuries to handle at such a thin position group.

Shit, I forgot about Herron's ankle. OK, Leach it is.
In better news, Mouton has been very good thus far, which is incredibly encouraging. /stating the obvious
