I was really hoping he was going to get that job. Would have been a major boon for Coach Jordan to take over one of the top midwest programs, especially one where has such close ties.

I agree that he seems to be the heir apparent for Coach Bielein.

but it may have been one for Miller.  It was rumor that said Jordan was the front runner, and reading the linked articles it seems Miller was rumored to be following Stevens to the Celtics.  Just as easy to speculate that Butler was worried Miller would leave and called in Jordan just in case.  Not that Jordan wouldn't have been an excellent option: both have solid histories with Butler, both have good resumes as assistants to respected B1G coaches with successful programs during their coaching time, but Miller knows the current players, who were taken for a loop when Stevens left.

But interesting to learn that Miller just came back in April.  More baseless speculation: Stevens asks him to follow him to Celtics, obviously someone he likes as a coach, lured him to Butler only a few months ago... Who knew what when?  Did Miller know Stevens was ready to move and did Stevens suggest he was HC-in-waiting, only to ask him to come with him to the pros?

Nevertheless, the players of both schools win.  The Butlerites keep their assistants, probably to retain their system.  Our guards, including those who may or may not be joining the team [ptui,ptui-don't tempt the evil eye], have the guy they thought would mentor them.  And Jordan's recognized for his contributions and value.

That's good for Michigan. Not great for Jordan but other chances will come along if he wants them. Certainly should help in Michigan's pursuit of Bluiett.

Per Sam Webb, that 247 report was wrong:

Always happy for out assistants when they move up. This must hurt with it being his alma matter and all. Sorry Coach, keep your head up and good things will come.

USA Today had some interesting details (HERE).

Most notably, Brandon Miller actually interviewed for the position within hours of Stevens accepting the job with the Celtics, according to this piece. LaVall Jordan was set to interview today, but obviously that was before this decision was made official. Supposedly, Miller and Jordan were the only two people even considered for the position, or at least it seems this way. That would be Butler's MO though.

Certainly would not have blamed him for going, but I'm glad to see him staying. Keep the continuity. This coaching staff has got a great thing going here. Jordan's time will come, whether its at another top program, or whether he's Beilein's heir apparent.

Great to have him back, but I bet he would've loved to have that job. Hopefully he gets another chance sometime soon. I'm sure just by being a prime candidate for Butler, he's put himself on the radar for other programs looking for a head coach

Definitely bodes well for Hoops right now. Would be nice to see some Belein proteges get a chance to be headcoaches and get a Michigan Hoops coaching tree going. In the end, I guess I'd rather take this though.

That's actually a pretty common term for someone who takes band way too seriously and is only really used amongst people who would be called that anyways. I don't support the use of any language like that and this phrase still takes me aback, but context is very important when it comes to determining whether to chastise someone's use of a particular word.

What was the sig?  I am old too, but don't recall any band connotations that had homosexual slurs in them - but maybe because I was an Orch Dork (Orchestra 15 years), I was sheltered from such slanderours signatures...

But I agree...feel bad for Coach J on "JUST" missing out on a wonderful opportunity. It'll come though, hopefully down the road in the maize and blue.

One thing I thought was interesting, when we were "struggling" for a couple weeks during the B1G season and people wanted Coach B fired (fucking idiots)...it was Bacari Alexander that they clamored for, not Jordan. Now everyone is ready to give Jordan the "coach in waiting" title based off the information and he was a Butler front-runner.

Bacari is flamboyant and outgoing and gets the pub.   So that's what the fans see - i.e. the nutrcracker and stuff.  Jordan is quiet and behind the scenes.  Fans don't know what is going on behind closed doors.  Maybe Jordan got this opportunity because it is Butler specific.  Maybe he is indeed the next hot coach in waiting.  We don't know - have to see how the next few years play out and who gets more feelers.

Lavall will get his shot if not now then next year or the year after. His star is rising (as is Bacari's). In the meantime he can help us continue the reclamation project that is UM basketball. Timing wise this was not the best time for us to lose LJ. After 20 years of suffering we've finally had a breakthrough here the past 2 years. The question now is can we sustain it. It will be much easier with coach Jordan and the rest of the staff on board...

Shocked, but in an extremely good way. My sources very close to the MBB program had said that if Lavall was offered, he planned on taking it (obviously), and with the way things were going, an offer seemed inevitable. It's a shining testament to Beilein that we've managed to hang on to Meyer, Alexander and Jordan these past few years when all 3 of them should be head coaches somewhere else right now. We've got a hell of a good thing going here.

His name coming up makes him seem like a serious candidate for jobs, and if he goes somewhere other than Butler and does a good job it might be easier to pry him away to come back here from someplace other than his alma mater.

Feeling is being upset for coach Jordan. I hate to see a Michigan man denied an opportunity. Can't say whether or not he deserved it over miller, but selfishly I would always like to see our guy get it.

I wonder how this will play out in Blueitt's recruitment.  Will Butler do negative recruiting for a a situation they created?   ie Will they claim that Lavall's interest in HC suggests that Blueitt's position coach (Laval) will soon leave UM?  If so, will Blueitt see through this tactic.  Will he see that Butler now has lost their star HC.  It now has an inexperienced rookie coach who woulld have been his position coach but now will be too busy learning a new job?

It's worth thinkiing about this issue in order to address Blueitt's potential concerns.

He will get multiple opportunities within the next few years to become a HC, and he'll probably get a bump in salary here anyhow. It's not the worst thing in the world to not become the head coach at your alma mater, given the extra pressure and scrutiny an alum is subjected to.

His time will come, whether it's at UM or another school.
