Rumor mill says, 8 years $49Mill for Harbaugh. Would bring DJ Durkin as DC, make Andy Moeller & Ty Wheatly as Co-OC.

If Harbaugh doesn’t happen it’s going to be exactly like Y2K, with a lot of confused posters retreating to their well-provisioned basements, wondering what could have been.

secretly I've been lying in the weeds keeping notes of both sides and every post that is just purely obnoxious, unrealistic, or just stupid. Harbaugh or not...this folks will get called out.

There is no reason why we can't post with just a LITTLE common sense. Just enough to be human. Nothing more is expected. Some on here can't even do that much and it's insane. It's trolling. And you don't troll your own board...even in times like that. That's like first rule of fight club, right?

So all the smart ass comments and ridiculousness is being noted for sure. The shit that just drives everyone crazy. Oh and the "here's what I think at the moment let me hurry and post...oops no on cared I should've thought just a moment longer" threads.

P.S. --- Harbaugh

but an msu site has an entire thread dedicated to undercover trolls regarding the UM fanbase Harbaugh hysteria. This certain thread Has people that have been outed (a few here) and about 20 that have not on various UM sites. They are supposedly planning a last ditch cyber troll the moment we know for fact it isn't happening. They have not mentioned what they'd do if it is happening, if anything at all but disappear. What it is I'm not sure but there are sleeper cells in UM communities and this is definitely one of them. Sleeper cells ready to troll by cell in between pizza deliveries. Not at all making this up, btw. Google as I don't recall the link to it being scout, rivals, etc. So, that new poster around here that's been positive or negative could be one. Don't become too friendly with anyone donning an account made in the last month. Sleeper trolls in the midst, gents. They'll have to be quick b/c this site is gonna 503 hard & fast upon legit news either way.

Not surprised about the money to compensate the move from the NFL back to college, but I would be surprised that a career OL coach would be given co-OC responsibilities when he has never served in that capacity. That would almost be as dumb as letting a career DL coach be a head coach, but UM wouldn't do anything that stupid.

In football, that typically goes from position coach to the coordinator level above that position. That's a natural progression of promotion. Moving from the NFL to college often would come with a promotion in position level. At 50, in the coaching profession, that promotion isn't uncommon.

And, FWIW, maybe outside of QB, I would say that former-OL coaches typically are the most common OCs. They typically are some of the smarter guys, and typically understand as well as anyone else the limitations of their offense.

So yeah, giving a career, 50 year old, NFL OL coach a Co-OC position wouldn't be that odd.

And enough with the "as dumb as letting a career DL coach" crap. Urban Meyer was a career WR coach before becoming a HC. Ferentz was a career OL coach before becoming Iowa's HC. Pat Fitzgerald was a career LB coach before becoming Northwestern's HC. Hazell was a career WR coach before being Purdue's HC. Randy Edsall had one year as a DC before becoming a HC, he was a career DB coach. Not to mention Hoke was the associate HC at Michigan before getting a HC gig, which he was groomed for. Not to mention he was a HC at Ball St and SDSU before being Michigan's HC. Not to mention that many new coordinators are "career" something else coaches. Lloyd Carr was a career DB coach before becoming Michigan's DC.

So really, I don't think you have a point here. And I don't mean to pick on you specifically, but some people around here have been crazy with the expectations for every coach. If we don't get Harbaugh people are going to freak. Some say Stoops isn't good enough. The only acceptable OC/DCs seem to be guys that already have succeeded at a major school or in the NFL or as a head coach. NFL coaches should take the NFL equivalent position coach at Michigan, or it's not good enough. But I honestly wouldn't be surprised, even if Harbaugh got the HC position, if Wheatley turned down being a Co-OC at Michigan. He certainly wouldn't take the RB coach position, nor should he. But that's the odd expectation that makes absolutely no sense, and this kind of thought process isn't just limited to a few, the expectations for everything are shoot for the moon or it's a bust hire.

Urban Meyer was a career WR coach before becoming a HC... at BGSU.

Ferentz was a career OL coach before becoming Iowa's HC.

Ferentz was head coach at Maine before Iowa.

Pat Fitzgerald was a career LB coach before becoming Northwestern's HC. Hazell was a career WR coach before being Purdue's HC. Randy Edsall had one year as a DC before becoming a HC, he was a career DB coach.

...and none of those three are good coaches.

I will agree that dinging Hoke for being a career DL coach is wrong - the reason not to hire him wasn't that he was a career DL coach, it's that he had a mediocre to poor head coaching record running MAC level programs.

IBD.

But anyhow, I updated the main post on Durkin.

EDIT 11:20 PM EST - more Henson rumor mongering is Harbaugh looking at DJ Durkin as DC.  He is current interim coach of UF and served 2 years under Muschamp as DC.  Connection to Harbaugh = special teams coach for Stanford in 07-09.  36 years old (!).

Durkin is a Youngstown (!) OH boy, who has tons of Midwest ties via Bowling Green, Notre Dame in 2001-2006 as a GA and position coach.  Been at Florida since 2010.

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but I'm not a fan of co-coordinator roles. Fertile ground for pissing contests, office politics, lack of accountability, and finger pointing.

Don't get me wrong. I'd be thrilled w Harbaugh. And I want strong assistants and staff. Its not a commentary one way or another about individual coaches. It's just as a general organizational principle (even outside of sports) I'm a big fan of clear roles and responsibility. But honestly my gripe is small potatoes. Harbaugh to Michigan is still epic if this happens.
