Harvard vs Yale is a game of interest I guess. Are we still bubble watching, pulling for certain teams over another? Or do we not care anymore.
Harvard is playing princton not yale
I'm afraid OSU is probably going to win the BTT. MSU and PSU look tired out there today. A lot of outside shots are falling short.
No one in the B1G has the personnel to hang with OSU right now. Their starters are just too good.
I really like that Ed Hightower guy that they've got. Looks first-team all B1G to me.
had to do it.
Sullinger is INVINCIBLE in the post. INVINCIBLE I say.
Well, I don't know if I'd go that far. Many teams have played them close this season. Northwestern, an NIT team, lost to them by 1 in the regular season and then in OT yesterday. We lost to them three times by a total of 20 points. Teams just haven't been able to deliver the knockout punch.
OSU looks like a team that could get upset in the Sweet 16 or Elite 8. If they face a team with some size and consistency, they're in trouble
The Buckeyes have a senior-laden squad with the B1G's all-time 3-point leader and a 270-pound freshman big who is INVINCIBLE in the post. The only rosters that are in the same ballpark are MSU and maybe Penn State. The combination of depth, age, and special skills Ohio State has this year has come through in the clutch time and again for them. Northwestern always plays Ohio State tough and they're still scrabbling for an NCAA berth; or were, anyways, before yesterday's game.
Ya I know some people will say bubble watching is no longer relevant but it gives me something to do so here we go.
Harvard to beat Princeton
Duke to beat Vtech
Temple to beat Richmond
MSU to beat Penn State (This one makes me sick so I don't really care either way. They'll both lose to the Nuts tomorrow anyway unfortunately.)
I think that's about it.
Michigan is looking at an 11 seed IMO. But a 10 or 12 is also likely. I just want to stay out of the play-in round.
MSU to win this game. I will get a much better nights sleep. If I had an MSU T-shirt (that hasn't been converted to a devise I use to wipe up pet waste) I would wear in right now.
This is way too strong a statement.
I think the BT pecking order looks like this:
So a PSU win might hurt us but they would have to slide above Illinois first and at that point I think we're ok because the BT will get 6 teams minimum.
We really don't want PSU to beat the Nuts tomorrow. But there is no chance of that IMO.
No chance for Sparty either though.
will get lots of love for the North Carolina win (correct me I am wrong, that may have been Minnesota, I don't have my bubble guide handy), they have beaten us once and I think have a better overall record.
A PSU win today makes me nervous. Second half getting under way.
Illinois is 19-13 (9-10 in B10 including the BTT). They beat us once, but it was in their building, while we beat them on a neutral site (we didn't play them in Ann Arbor). They did beat UNC and Gonzaga, which apparently is enough for them to sneak in the tourney, but they're not a stronger candidate than we are.
after yesterday's action.
Of the teams below us, only 6 still had games to play. Of those 6, Clemson has lost, Alabama has lost, Richmond has won, PSU is winning, Virginia Tech is losing, Memphis won but won't jump us, and UTEP lost (MSU is also obviously losing if they were still behind us).
There is essentially no way we'll ever even be sent to Dayton, let alone miss the entire tournament.
There is no way we will miss the tournament.
Absolutely none whatsoever.
Forget the bubble. The effect on us is minimal at this point with so few games to play. With the exception of VaTech, PSU and maybe Richmond/Utah State, the field's likely set with an idea of what the seeding will be. Committee then puts the bracket together tomorrow.
More interesting a topic is who we might face. We're currently a 10, I could see us drop to an 11 depending on results/placement. If we're looking at 6 and 7 seeds, the bracket matrix currently has Georgetown, A&M, KState, Xavier, Cincy, Temple, UNLV and Old Dominion in those slots. I'm partial to either of the Big XII teams if that's the case. Don't think either is as good as they're advertised.
After puuling it out against Illinois and putting forth a respectable showing against an eventual 1-seed, I like our chances as a 10 or 11. I'm thinking shades of two years ago against Clemson.
Georgetown...absolutely...I've seen them play a number of times this year, and they are pretty overrated and ripe for an upset. With Christ Wright, they were a decent team, but still not as good as a Cincinatti or K-State. Their offense is stagnant and no one can create points, but they were prone to mental lapses on the defensive end...I'd really like our chances against them
Really though, any of the teams you list, I think we could beat. UNLV and Old Dominion would scare me the most...
I'm dumb as a rock...
Apparently their new slogan is "Spartans will". Having dated a few, I concur. :)
Traitor. I hope you broke their hearts.
I got wise and married out of conference (though still a vehement Buckeye and Nittany Lion hater)
Hopefully we can get a couple of big men down the road, which will be key in any tournament we play in. Also, experience for guys like Smot and Vog would be great. They played with a lot of hesitation today.
A little of topic but I didn't want to start a new thread, but as of right now Lunardi has us as a 10 seed playing UNLV in New Orleans.
Please give me that draw!
Is it just me or is Draymond Green one of the dumbest basketball players in the B1G? Dude picks up over the back calls and dumb reach-ins like it's his job and takes himself out of many games because of it.
He reminds me of players like Nazr Mohammed. Doesn't seem to realize his size/skill advantage and fails to take advantage of it all the time.
I'd say that's a little harsh there. He does have some mental lapses at times, but show me a player who doesn't from time to time.
Now, if you had said whiniest player in the B1G, I would agree with you 110%. How he does not get a T every game for all his pissing and moaning is beyond me.
Looks like PSU going to make the final, wtf.
Nothing wrong with having a non-despicable team to root for in the final, even if they're going to get stuffed into a trash can.
particularly Ed Hightower.
Some enterprising MGoPoster needs to do an analysis of B1G basketball refs and analyze how much they affect the outcome of the game. The trick is finding a methodology that gives useful information, because there's so many variables that go in to reffing decisions. Still, it would be a lock for "best of MGo" if someone could pull it off.
I'm happy for PSU. They played the toughest conference schedule possible - only one game apiece against Indiana and Iowa - and managed to go 9-9. If they win today, that gives them 12 wins against Big Ten opposition. They deserve a bid. And they arguably got jobbed two years ago, when they were 10-8 in conference and got snubbed. Good for them.
I remember that. Good for their program.
Talor Battle would be the best streetball player in the B1G.
There was a thread a few days back about showing the selection show at crisler tomorrow. is that still on? if so, does anyone have details?
Starts at 5:00 pm. Open to the public.
MSU appears to have forgotten whatever halfcourt offense they run and is just chucking up prayers.
Richmond upsets Temple.
Harvard now down 1 with 5 minutes left..
PSU bludgeoning MSU.
We'd better hope that the optimists are right because very few results are going our way today.
Read my signature. Recite it over and over again until it's entrenched in your mind. Grab a beer or something, turn on the TV and relax. Big XII and Big East finals on tonight. And never forget, we are fine.
I'm glad you are here to calm my nerves.
I am going to take your advice and grab a beer.
I just look at your dog, and I know everything is going to be fine.
Because Clemson lost to UNC, Va Tech is losing to Duke, and Bama got its ass kicked by Kentucky.
as much as i hate state i didn't want psu to play their way in. want to make sure we stay out of the first four. not looking good.
on the Matrix. That means we're 6 spots from the play-in game. Of the teams behind us, only two have any shot whatsoever to pass us at this point: Penn State and Richmond. Clemson lost, Va Tech is getting thumped, Alabama got killed, UTEP lost.
There are plenty of teams behind us even with the loss today. We are not going to be in one of the play in games.
Losing by 7 points to the overall #1 seed will barely be a blip on tha radar.
This MSU/PSU game doesn't concern me about Michigan's chances. If this holds up, I just see the two teams swapping places, and MSU would be the one who may have the play in game. Illinois fans have to be worried though.
it seems that in recent years the committee hasn't been particularly kind to picking B1G teams for the tourney. When the "experts" hover between 6 or 7 teams in, the committee seems to tend to the low number. I'm not calling conspiracy at all. I'm just thinking particularly about two years ago with PSU and it seems like the same happened last year but I don't remember.
In that case I think Illinois fans have to be extremely concerned and this does disrupt the seeding for B1G teams including UM, MSU and PSU.
