Ohio lucks out again. NO Kirk, knee didn't touch.
Ohio lucks out again. NO Kirk, knee didn't touch.
Also a horrid spot. What the fuck?!
Northwestern just got jobbed on the spot.
That was a horrible spot - NW was robbed of at least a half-yard.
No good replay showing the spot. They're not gonna win this one. Waste of a time out.
And Ohio pulls another out of its ass
bad challenge, waste of a time out. There is no way they will be able to overturn this call. He is covered in human bodies.
Great camera angles for this review. Ha
Here's something I don't understand. Why doesn't the booth ever call down a review on spots? Especially if it is a fourth down what is the harm of looking at it? Why does it always have to be a challenge?
The yellow line isn't completely accurate, especially from that angle.
Yellow line doesn't mean anything. It's just a TV tool.
Yeah, the yellow line doesn't mean shit, but if you've ever been a linesman, you know how jacked that whole system is; foot placement and chain link grabbing at the distal side of the nearest /5 yard line isn't exactly rocket science either.
I think he got it. However, we don't have anything conclusive yet..
I don't know what they'll be able to deduce from a review on the spot. It sure looked like he got closer, but who knows if it was a first.
They won't overturn it because there's no evidence. Fucking bullshit
OSU pulls him forward, yet somehow the spot didn't really move.
There's no way you can overturn it, but that's just a shitty spot.
Pretty sure that was a first down, maybe I hate Ohio though, so, there's that. OSU pulled him forward.
Why can't we play The Xx during replays?
Fucking refs are fucking morons
Wow. NW got hosed on the placement of that ball.
Of course NW fumbles the snap on a critical 4th and 1.
OSU never has bounces go against them. It's always the opponents.
Was that the first under center snap for NW?
No. They did one on a sneak in first half when they were pinned on the one yard line after that pint.
Hyde runs like a fucking man.
He moved forward! Not backwards!! Uggh
How can there not be a camera on the other sideline that would of shown EXACTLY where to spot it?
scares the poop out of me. I don't know how well the UM dline can hold up.
?? I like our defense a lot better than Northwestern's.
NW has caused a lot of turnovers on Braxton - that requires some form of pressure, something UM does not do well with. Most of our defensive turnovers have been INTs. Big difference between the 2 defenses.
That game will require multiple OSU turnovers and a play on special teams along with Notre Dame Devin to show up. OSU will control both lines.
Four letters my friend. JMFR
I hope he's the missing x factor with this defense. The key is whether he's the same FMFR as last year.
You can tell by him that they were further than they spotted it
NW just can't tackle anyone. OSU gets another lucky win.
Well, I turned the game off and changed my attention to the WA/Stanford game. Good game, but I'm sure most of us knew Ohio would win this game.
I have hated the QB sneak since the first time I saw it. Their run game has been getting yards in chunks all night and then they switch the plan entirely when they really need a yard? Why? There's no momentum going forward, especially against an opposing line that is flat out bigger and better than yours.
wow what a hit by a guy who probably is giving up 60 lbs
But the problem is, we may have to beat them two times in two weeks.
5:03 I guess.
But I'm not bitter or anything.
have enough cash to retire yet?
Kind of feel like this is why finesse spread offenses can't win games. If there was ever a situation for a big dude who can churn out half a yard that was it.
Oregon Ducks think you're full of shit.
That wasted challenge is going to kill NW now. OSU can almost run the whole clock down. Just a dumb waste of a challenge by Fitzgerald.
Why not take a chance? Fitzgerald's playing to win. And this is unarguably the biggest game of his coaching career. Got to pull out all the stops if you want to beat a team like this.
I wonder if the NW coaches upstairs know whether there's a camera on that other sideline or not. They should. Because if they knew that, they wouldn't have challenged.
Shit. Crap spot and then a wasted Northwestern TO to boot. Oh well, we'll have our shot.
Oh my god. Carlos Hyde with the most miraculous game ever as a running back. This vaunted northwestern defense could not contain him!!! Slurp slurp
25 carries! Unheard of!
What a shitty night of football. Both Arizona St and NW shit the bed when it matters.
I have never and will never root for ND to win a game. If they went 0-12 every year for the rest of time I would be sad they weren't losing by enough points. ASU is dead to me.
I was actually glad ND won. I was getting sick of watching the teams we beat get curbstomped.
Northwestern is afraid of greatness.
That challenge cost NW about 30 seconds. Just horrible clock management.
25 seconds if hope.
God dammit I'm sick of osu and their easy as cake schedules besides this game. They'll win out until The Game.
Of course they will. Like I said before though, if our stadium seems to be close to a quarter red, I will be livid. Ohio will be 11-0 coming to Ann Arbor and our fans need to show, ESPECIALLY THE DAMNED STUDENTS WHO LOVE TO ARRIVE LATE OR EVEN NOT SHOW.
You're pretty much inventing a problem based on something that happened exactly once...
Slurp slurp urban. Piss off Herbie
No, that was a fitting end.
What a fucking joke of a play that was. Fucking awesome.
Well, that was a pretty dumb end of the game.
If there's a camera on the other side of the field, he gets a first down.
And people are going to act like OSU really beat the tar out of NW.
some people in vegas are gonna be pissed
Goddamnit they covered the spread too.
Ohio has looked incredibly vulnerable for the last 18 games. But somehow they keep winning. It's getting ridiculous as to we e what weird crap will bail them out every week.
...just changed hands on that fumble recovery.
OSU covered and those that teased the under lost.
Hey, another contender in the legends already has a B1G loss. Good for UM.
As much as I wanted OSU to lose, we all know a Northwestern loss is what is best for Michigan, so yes, silver linings.
That is the silver lining, but I'd prefer an Ohio loss. They and their fans need a reality check.
They'll get one if they make the title game, or end up in the Rose Bowl against Oregon. Teams like Alabama, A&M, Clemson and Oregon would absolutely maul Ohio.
They'll get one in Ann Arbor at the end of November.
I guess Pat Fitzgerald will cry himself to sleep tonight, and I don't blame him.
I never understand why there is not cameras on both sides - makes absolutely no sense.
And somehow that magic camera is supposed to see through about six players on each side of the ball?
That ball was pretty much buried in the middle of the pile. There's really no way a video replay could have overturned anything there, magic sideline cameras or not.
Keep in mind that unless it's something obvious like a knee being down or the ball obviously being at something you can pick out on the field (yard line, hash mark, etc.), there really isn't any way to accurately respot a ball based on a video replay, no matter where the camera is. That's why those challenges don't work about 99% of the time. You're basically asking the refs to arbitrarily pick another spot that may or may not be farther down the field than their previous arbitrarily-picked spot. And most of the time, there isn't enough evidence to warrant essentially guessing again. That's just how this works.
It's like a called strike. You can try to quantify it all you want with a video camera, but at the end of the day, it's human error. That's sports.
A camera on the other side would clearly have shown where he was as he was outside the right tackle.
Even if you could see the ball, which you couldn't, what reference point do you use to magically respot that ball ten inches forward? Or do you just want the refs to guess again?
I think the spot was bullshit. It was a first down. But it's a given that you're pretty much stuck with wherever that ball is spotted unless there's something painfully obvious. That play simply doesn't fall in that category.
NW puked away that game.
Proving they are slightly better than a borderline top 20 team.
...the only teams that are 2-0 in the B1G are Ohio St. and Northern Illinois?
Call me crazy but for some reason I feel like the @ILL game will be a nail biter for OSU.
I hope Ohio is undefeated when they roll into Michigan Stadium in November. They're beatable
If they're undefeated when they come to Ann Arbor, we'll have to play them two weeks in a row - best case scenario.
I'd rather just have them lose another game along the way and have Wisconsin win it instead.
Hope we get a "Carlos Hyde" effort from Toussaint when we play NW. We're going to need it.
PF has to challenge that. That's his best chance to win. Everyone in the country knew that Northwestern's defense couldn't stop Ohio.
Well, we all somehow had to know this was coming. OSU manages to pull a win out of its ass despite a Braxton having a very uninspiring game. Maybe Roby, after getting gashed for the second straight week, will stop talking like his shit doesn't stink.
Oh well. We'll get our shot at them next month. That's all we can ask for. Hopefully we can channel our inner 90s and hand them their only loss of the season.
A NW loss was not the best outcome. OSU won't lose now and more than likely it won't matter if Michigan beats them because they'll still get into the B1G championship game.
I keep building my hopes for one of those improbable, bad-team-plays-game-of-their-life efforts, but then I realize that Ohio State always finds a way to win those, too.
All is sadness, darkness, and pain.
Purdue has their number
Ohio was going to the BTCG even with this loss and a loss to us in the Game. If the Badgers lose to Northwestern next Saturday this game will be rendered mostly meaningless.
Im sick of OSU, the only hard game they have left is Michigan, and if we dont put our game face on i can se URban scum Meyer go undefeated again..i hope we beat them so we can ruin their perfect season, they will most likely come to the big house undefeated... I also hope Oregon keeps winning because if they keep the number 2 spot then OSU will have no chance going to the national championship game.. Offcourse Albama has to keep the numbe 1 spot
Wow! You seem to not like Ohio State on a personal level.
I didnt know any UofM fans liked them from the "personal level"
I do hate osu on a personal level...what Michigan fan shouldn't?
Well I'd rather osu not get to the title game at all than still get there and lose....
I would love to see that.. Oregon deserves it, they are really good, i think they are better than alabama, and those oregon players are like energizer bunny, full speed from start to finish..its unbelivable when you watch them, how fast paces they play
Don't sleep on Purdue
I hope u kidding about Purdue
I think we will beat them in Ann Arbor. But what I hate is that we'll then have to turn around and play them again a week later, since no it looks like one else in the B1G will take care of business against them. Going 2 for 2 is going to be hard as hell.
On the side note, i cant believe how good Stanford keeps getting every year, their QB is really good...Harbough really built that program
It will be up to us. Other teams can give Ohio tough games but only Michigan has the athletic ceiling to pull the dang thing off. The problem is....Ohio will be jacked up for us as well. We just need to improve ourselves week to week and not worry about Ohio....their schedule is despicable and everyone knows it. We need to save college football and knock this team out of contention in addition to building our own champuonship foundation!
Anyone want to explain how osu got this big ten schedule?
Don't have to travel to Iowa City, State College, or East Lansing. Only have to ''travel'' to 40 thousand seat Ryan Field and Ann Arbor. Come on.
as it is to watch Ohio continue to win games and play a shitty schedule, we will have our shot, that is the beauty of it all. I am just hoping that we are healthy and vastly improved in every aspect by the time November 30 rolls around. it is time for us to put an end to this streak, even if Ohio still plays in the B1G title game, we need to kick their ass at the end of november.
Believe it or not but B1G has been always bad, the only dominant teams have been UofM and OSU, maybe wisonsin will show up every now and then..the problem is that other conferences have gotten a lot better..while others take a step forward big ten takes one back..besides us and osu, recruiting has alway been bad amongst other big ten teams and its not getting better either, whereas SEC no matter how bad their teams are they still get number one recruits (Ole Miss) perfect example
Someone should tell him to look at his own quarterback for inspiration on terrible QBs.
Probably should include Roby and the Ohio secondary as well for uninspiring play.
The funny thing is OSU got that touchdown call earlier in the game on the review and I don't know how you overturn the call on the field that he did not break the plane. Maybe the video evidence appeared to have been a touchdown but I thought it was disputable considering the deceptive camera angles. Game could have been entirely different if they make that call stand since I though it was debatable whether the ball broke the plane. I really really want to beat them this year. Guess it's like that every year.
One of many reasons I love NCAAF more than the NFL: late night west coast games. This Stanford/WA game won't end until 1:30 or 2:00 AM EST. This is awesome.
Dont forget Hawaii and SJSU playing too, they just started :)
Is anyone watching Stanford play MANBALL?
I am thinking about starting a late night thread. I am sick of navigating to the end of an 800 post thread.
Go for it
Harbough really build that program.. They play smash mouth football just like michigan use to.. Run the RB right up the gut and throw to the TE alot.. They are good, and a hell of a QB too
It's only a great call if it works! Great call, Sark.
Washington just won't quit.
It's cool how patient UW has been with Sark. Granted, they were a dumpster fire when he got there, but in takes a while to really build a winning culture and they've given him time.
