Late afternoon/evening games Open Thread
Couple of afternoon games are still finishing up and then two of our rivals play what should be interesting games this evening. In Knoxville, Tennessee has just tied Georgia 24-24 in the 4th. And Okie St. just jumped back in front of Kansas St by 1 late in the game.

On the bright side, though, both of those outcomes benefit Michigan. ND for win validation, NW loss makes things a little easier to win the division.

I have never and will never root for ND to win a game. If they went 0-12 every year for the rest of time I would be sad they weren't losing by enough points. ASU is dead to me.

I was actually glad ND won. I was getting sick of watching the teams we beat get curbstomped.

Classic Northwestern. Had so many chances to win and just made mistake after mistake.

That challenge cost NW about 30 seconds. Just horrible clock management.

God dammit I'm sick of osu and their easy as cake schedules besides this game. They'll win out until The Game.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:40 PM ^
Of course they will. Like I said before though, if our stadium seems to be close to a quarter red, I will be livid. Ohio will be 11-0 coming to Ann Arbor and our fans need to show, ESPECIALLY THE DAMNED STUDENTS WHO LOVE TO ARRIVE LATE OR EVEN NOT SHOW.

You're pretty much inventing a problem based on something that happened exactly once...

LOL what a fitting end.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:38 PM ^
No, that was a fitting end.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:37 PM ^
What a fucking joke of a play that was. Fucking awesome.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:37 PM ^
Well, that was a pretty dumb end of the game.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:37 PM ^
If there's a camera on the other side of the field, he gets a first down.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:38 PM ^
And people are going to act like OSU really beat the tar out of NW.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:38 PM ^
some people in vegas are gonna be pissed
October 5th, 2013 at 11:38 PM ^
How pissed are the people who took Northwestern +7 right now?

Tremendous choke job by NW. Ohio looks incredibly vulnerable. I can't wait to see Braxton fumble in the Big House.

October 5th, 2013 at 11:38 PM ^
...just changed hands on that fumble recovery.

As much as I wanted OSU to lose, we all know a Northwestern loss is what is best for Michigan, so yes, silver linings.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:42 PM ^
That is the silver lining, but I'd prefer an Ohio loss. They and their fans need a reality check.

I guess Pat Fitzgerald will cry himself to sleep tonight, and I don't blame him.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:39 PM ^
Incredible to me that if the crews put a camera on both sides of the field, Northwestern probably wins the game. That is some bullshit.

October 5th, 2013 at 11:41 PM ^
And somehow that magic camera is supposed to see through about six players on each side of the ball?
October 5th, 2013 at 11:44 PM ^
Did you see the play? A camera on the other side would have picked up the spot of the ball easily as Colter was outside of the RT.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:47 PM ^
That ball was pretty much buried in the middle of the pile. There's really no way a video replay could have overturned anything there, magic sideline cameras or not.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:50 PM ^
Ok. I disagree.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:57 PM ^
Keep in mind that unless it's something obvious like a knee being down or the ball obviously being at something you can pick out on the field (yard line, hash mark, etc.), there really isn't any way to accurately respot a ball based on a video replay, no matter where the camera is. That's why those challenges don't work about 99% of the time. You're basically asking the refs to arbitrarily pick another spot that may or may not be farther down the field than their previous arbitrarily-picked spot. And most of the time, there isn't enough evidence to warrant essentially guessing again. That's just how this works.
It's like a called strike. You can try to quantify it all you want with a video camera, but at the end of the day, it's human error. That's sports.
October 6th, 2013 at 12:36 AM ^
Well sports suck.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:56 PM ^
A camera on the other side would clearly have shown where he was as he was outside the right tackle.
October 6th, 2013 at 12:00 AM ^
Even if you could see the ball, which you couldn't, what reference point do you use to magically respot that ball ten inches forward? Or do you just want the refs to guess again?
I think the spot was bullshit. It was a first down. But it's a given that you're pretty much stuck with wherever that ball is spotted unless there's something painfully obvious. That play simply doesn't fall in that category.

...the only teams that are 2-0 in the B1G are Ohio St. and Northern Illinois?
October 5th, 2013 at 11:42 PM ^
Call me crazy but for some reason I feel like the @ILL game will be a nail biter for OSU.
October 5th, 2013 at 11:43 PM ^
I'm banking on Purdue beating Ohio again. Before we do next month, I mean.
