Late Afternoon Open Thread

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on

Early games are still in action, but wanted to get this out before I lose focus and forget. Not a lot of 3:30pm games compared to usual. Keep an eye on Wisconsin vs a real opponent (OSU) and Indiana. Virginia has made a living playing horrible in September than come alive in October.

I'll have the TV on Wisconsin@OSU and Bama'@OleMiss, and ESPN360 on Indiana@UVa. Game that I'll probably miss but want to see is Oregon@UCLA.

The mid-afternoon/early-evening shift via AwfulAnnouncing, chronologically then by my interest:

2pm

  • New Mexico @ Wyoming (MTN)

3:30pm

  • Alabama @ Mississippi (CBS)
  • Wisconsin @ Ohio State (ABC/ESPN)
  • Oregon @ UCLA (ABC)
  • Indiana @ Virginia (ESPN360)
  • Connecticut @ Pittsburgh (ABC/ESPN)
  • Navy @ Rice (CBS College Sports)
  • Baylor @ Oklahoma (ABC)
  • Bowling Green @ Kent State (FS Ohio)
  • Georgia Southern @ North Carolina (ESPN360)
  • Marshall @ Tulane (CSS, CST)
  • Gardner-Webb @ Buffalo (Time Warner-NY)

4pm

  • Duke @ North Carolina State (ESPNU)

6pm

  • Utah @ Colorado State (MTN)

6:30pm

  • Maryland @ Wake Forest (ESPN360)

WEAKEST CALL EVER ON BAYLOR!!! The DL jumps over a guy, barely taps Bradford as he comes down. Like doesn't even move him, but their helmets glanced each other. Goes from 4th and goal on the 7 to 1st and goal on the one.

The commentators mentioned how one of the suckeye DL was asking his sideline that he needed a breather--to the point where he could barely speak out the whole sentence. That was with some four or five minutes left in the FIRST quarter, and Wisconsin hadn't had the ball for too long. Then, about 3 minutes later, one of the Wisconsin receivers was gasping for air too, after he had run maybe 3-4 routes during the Wisconsin drive. That means that if we can get our $hit together on defense, and learn how to move the ball consistently on offense, we should be able to compete with these two teams and the rest of the Big10.

was once in the top 5, what a complete joke the SEC love fest has become.

Here's to hoping Florida bombs LSU tonight and another paper SEC top 5 team gets wacked.

Alabama should be up by 28

I've been watching this game on and off. Both teams look a lot better than most Big10 teams. No lie. Ole Miss's defense has been getting solid pressure, forcing McElroy to make some errant throws. Their offense isn't what people expected, but their D is playing well above average today.

That said, I don't hold LSU in regard to either of these two teams. Alabama is probably the best overall team in the SEC, probably the nation. Florida is a small cut above Ole Miss who is a good step above LSU.

I don't know how much hope I'm holding out. As discussed at ridiculous lengths, our secondary is scary at best. Iowa seems to put the ball up with quite a bit with their top running backs out, and GERG and the D have not shown the ability to stop the pass this year.

I'm worried it's a matter of time before the better teams on the schedule figure this out.

Still, I'm hopeful we can surprise the Hawks and get a win. If we do, eight wins are virtually assured.

There's definitely certain teams and conferences that can go by name alone. The SEC is tat conference, you can win one game and somehow be a top 10 team.. the same with Oklahoma, even though they are only, what, 2-2 they're still ranked in the top 20? Shenanigans.

I actually believe tonight is Michigan's best chance to pull of an upset. About equal with the PSU game at home.

It would be nice to get one of those two, I still think this team will drop one it shouldn't to Illinois or Purdue.

I'm feeling weary about the Purdue one as well. They are a good team, they just can't get their head together after they have one mistake. It seems like they get super down after one minor mistake, say a holding call bringing back a 3rd down conversion. They get down, stay down, lose all momentum, and lose the game. It's been the case against Oregon (when Oregon was still down), ND, and now Minnesota.

They have talent that should get them by a few games, but they just don't have the mental edge. I would not be surprised in the slightest if they found that edge for Michigan, exactly like they did last year.

I'm less concerned with Illinois as they just haven't done anything yet this season. If they'd at least made a stand somewhere, maybe I could worry. At this point, they've done absolutely nothing.

okay, so negbang me if i've missed today or in weeks past, but finally able to watch uninterrupted tv (not online sream) football, and was curious:
1) does osu play seven nation army on the kickoffs?
2) if so, how long has this been happening for?
