MSU helps us or sucks some more. Win-win. It's actually a pretty good day for games all around all day.
Mod Edit: Couldn't help editing the title. Staee! [zl]
MIzzou down by 7 to Florida, but driving with under 1 minute left on ESPN2
EDIT: Mizzou loses
Go Green! I'm rooting hard for MSU today and then getting blackout drunk after the game so hopefully I'll forget it ever happened.
and taking a nap. Sounds like a good afternoon.
Oklahoma just picked off the gloriously named Steel Jantz to end the Iowa State threat.
Should be no delay in seeing a Christmas-colored East Lansing.
I'll just say it: If MSU does us a favor, Arizona wins their game tonight, and USC loses to Oregon...
M and the Wildcats will each control their own destiny for a spot in the Rose Bowl.
Oh my would ABC love that.
The rematch of that 49-0 game against Oregon says they don't control their own destiny.
If Oregon runs the table then beats 'Zona in the P12 champ game, presumably Oregon goes to the MNC game and 'Zona, as the P12 runner-up, goes to the Rose Bowl.
I think that's the scenario the guy you replied to was envisioning.
Arizona won't qualify for a BCS game if they lose again.
They won't be in the top fourteen in that scenario, and won't be eligible to be picked for a BCS at-large (exactly like Sparty last season).
That said, they do control their own destiny. It might be unlikely, but if they win out they go to the Rose as champions.
Go staee! Beat Nebraska!
lotta empty seats and nebraska fans in east lansing. Chipotle must be busy
Time to put my Sparty helm on. BEAT NEBRASKA!
It looks like a Nebraska home game.
So much red in EL. Is there another Cedarfest I don't know about?
Jesus, I thought Sparty Stadium was supposed to be the toughest place to play? They lose a few games and the fans desert them!
That is all.
Indiana beat Iowa, just so when Michigan struggles with Iowa I can sit there and bitch about it.
nice crowd national Sparty.....pathetic.
Hail to Pitt, hoping for yet another victory over the Irish.
Sparty, this is why you are little brother.
I also love the Christmas-out game they have going. Really cleve to have all the MSU fans wear red and green
I'm rooting for State today (obviously), but lol at them getting called out by the announcers for being a weak ass fanbase
in our game.
says Will Hagerup
3 and out, and then a shanked punt for Nebraska to start. Great start for MSU.
Tennessee - Troy gets the LOL of the early games, tied up at 48 2:54 left in the 4th
you aren't serious are you? Wow. Dooley is gonna get shitcanned.
I meant Tennessee gets the LOL of the day
to convince me Dantonio is throwing this game
It might negatively effect their national recruiting?
Meanwhile, the first offensive drive for Illinois started in the customary fashion - Scheelhaase was sacked. After an exchange of unimpressive, brief attempts at drives for both the Illini and the Buckeyes, we're back to Beckmanball.
LOL LOL Troy beating tennessee 48-41 on ESPN3!
nice work Conroy.....
The Notre Dame Pittsburgh game is the classic Notre Dame letdown game. A 500 team comes in and knocks off the undefeated Irish. I'm calling it here first you can call me a genius later. If I'm wrong It's because I drank too much during the Michigan game
Feels dirty to say, but is what it is I guess.
Was it in Michigan too? Looks like alot of people dressed up like empty seats in East Lansing!
Been a rough week....thanks again Michigan! Go Blue!
always play each other close. I agree Pitt is definitely overmatched this season, but recent history would imply a very close game with Pitt playing well above their talent level. From the last four years:
ND @ Pitt, 15-12 ND
Pitt @ ND, 23-17 ND
ND @ Pitt, 27-22 Pitt
Pitt @ ND, 36-33 Pitt (4 OT)
Also, beating #3 ND and losing to UConn on Friday is a very Pitt Football thing to do, so I wouldn't be terribly surprised by anything.
Martinez with a terrilbe INT. Where was he throwing it?
Martinez....lol wow that was bad.
Scheelhaase has underthrown almost everything on this last drive, partially due to the offensive line getting zero push. Indeed, the turf has three catches for about 40 yards just on that last drive, on its way to a monster game at WR.
Illinois up 3-0 on Ohio!
but gosh darn is MSU's offense sad. I feel hopefully that they can win when the D is out and then the offense comes out and does nothing. This is painful to watch
YEAH MSU interception.... yeah... I'm finding this pretty damn hard to root for MSU. But I keep telling myself that after they win today (please), UM will be looking real good at being B1G Champs and going to the Rose Bowl. That would be another hugh step for this program and I would be SO HAPPY for our seniors, especially Denard and Kovacs who deserve this.
Am I jumping the gun a little? OK, yes.
Back to (sort-of) rooting for MSU.
Love watching 5 star LB Lawrence Thomas playing FB.
Big Run down inside the Irish 35.
This is saying a lot, but I think Bell is the most overrated Spartan.
So, apparently ESPN thinks that northern Ohio would rather watch Texas v. Texas Tech than a Big Ten game between MSU and Nebraska. Sucks.
I feel dirty wanting sparty to win..... Is it possible both Nebraska and sparty can both lose?
Tennessee hangs on to win at 55-48 after Troy has a hail mary attempt from the Tenn 45. A glorious win for Derek Dooley
6-0. XP pending
Go right through for msu....blah blah blah
I hope MSU wins 10-7 with a last second FG. I hope the game is boring and painful for everyone in East Lansing.
the woodshed is rocking...with their christmas colors.
And why does he look so much like Funchess
EDIT: Apparently there is a Charlie Zeller on our team who wears #19. VLOOKUP(fail)
Remember that Devin Smith guy who played so much against Alabama? Michigan's had a lot of weird roster issues this year.
I'm more interested in the fact that the guy covering him is named Martez Shabazz.
I feel dirty...Go Spartans...
Christian Bryant is probably one of the best things that could happen to any team playing the Buckeyes - he is a built-in first down on any given drive.
MSU D. Why do you blow up Michigan's veer all day and then allow Martinez to run for 80 yards on the same play
Gholston bit on that fake hand off reeeeeeeally bad.
Taylor caught from behind. You are not Denard bro. Not close.
Illinois gets another FG. 7-6 now.
Between the nearly 390 yards of offense they give up in the average game this season and a secondary that makes it a point to invent ways to draw PI calls, it is impressive that the Buckeyes are indeed 9-0.
So Illinois is keeping it close through 1 quarter against Ohio.
so the real Neb defense has finally showed up I see...
At some point we have to stop saying things like this and just admit that our Oline is pretty terrible.
ND-Pitt tied 3-3 after 1st quarter. I want so bad for ND to get knocked off and put this National Championship bs talk to rest.
well words from one side and spit from the other.
Hey all. I've been building a trash fire of my own in the backyard. Speaking of which, how's it looking so far? Sparties gonna spart?
Mountaineers wearing some weird yellow-gray ensemble. With blue trim.
And I can't even enjoy this one!
Gives Nebraska an easy first down
Sparty going late hit as usual....though in their defense it was a horrible call. however, they built their own nest with the dirty play last year.
BS call against MSU there
Terrible flag there.
Nevermind he hit his helmet. Damnit Sparty.
effing refs...Neb should be punting
but after the Stanford game....I must wait for the Refs decision.
MSU team is the best in the Big 10 at pointing at the other team
of course that sparty D is playing like shit now
Pretty sure they're just trolling their big brother now.
Anyone who says that teams don't get a little more up for UM and OSU than anyone else just needs to watch this Nebraska-MSU game. Both teams are playing quite a bit differently than against UM.
This is annoying. I want Nebraska to lose but don't really want Sparty to win. Northwestern could have made our lives a lot easier two weeks ago.
Or uhmmm. We could've made our lives a lot easier.
Well yeah, but the whole QB-getting-injured thing worked against us there. That was a really bad break. We need a good break to balance it out.
Still tied in East Lansing.
Ray Finkle must be Nebraska's kicker.
Shanks a plenty in the kicking game for both teams....
The crowd does not sound like it wants MSU to lose just to spite Michigan.
It must just be Dantonio.
...how they are not reluctant, in E. Lansing, to show video replays of disputed plays?
MSU and Wisconsin are, I think, the most aggressive schools in the Conference, in showing everything. If any stadium is more pathetic than Michigan's, in failing to show disputed plays, I haven't been there yet.
does it suck that NW got a bye week this week.. or shouldn't we worry?
ND must have had 5 or 6 shots from the 1 or 2 yard line...held to FG attempt.
I never realized that the whole digital screen that rings Spartan Stadium just runs ads. It's just a massive waste of space.
Well, Illinois' defense was keeping it competitive for a quarter and some change here, but they gave up two decent chunks of rushing and are now keeping it Illinois with that Buckeye TD. 17-6 Buckeyes.
Y u so slow
Wow. Tripled covered and still made the catch for a TD. Go Sparty! (gross).
14-7 pending the XP
Lippett is shocked he caught the ball....
TD Sparty, come on Sparts, win this game man
THAT's the crappy Nebraska defense we all expected.
Ugh. Sparty scores and I'm happy. What the hell has happened to my life? Someone spray me with a hose or something.
MSU receivers have gone from catching nothing to catching everything.
Haha just how they drew it up.
I keep expecting for MSU to regress to the mean personal-foul wise, yet they never do. I hate to perpetuate stereotypes and generalizations, but in this case it's very much true.
but that last one was sort of mean. Definitely a regression of sorts, personal-foul-wise.
after this game for having to root for Sparty so badly
That pass to Lippett by Maxwell...
Bo Pelini is an angry man.
love watching Abdullah try to block someone....it is always complete failure.
for a man that angry all the time. He's like the Izzo of football.
izzo actually wins
Except Izzo can actually be considered a winner.
Why did Denard have to go down against Nebraska? I have no doubt we would have won that game had he been healthy.
One of the lessons that will undoubtedly be learned from the Illinois-OSU game is that the Illinois secondary needs help....a lot of help, as they were just torched for a 51-yard TD reception and beat badly in pass coverage (big shock, right?). 24-6 Buckeyes. Is there a version of Tacopants that can play a little DB for them?
God, I hate rooting for Sparty. But I am. I haven't root this hard for MSU since that game they choked away to Notre Dame in 2006. MAKE PLAYS!!!!!!!!
Michigan State seems to have gone to it one too many times on that WR sweep!
9-6 Extra Point Pending!
10-6......with 3:55 remaining in the 2nd quarter. Pitt gets 2nd half kickoff.
Pitt up 10-6 on ND.
I'm tired of torturing myself with ND. I watch them to root against them and then they always, ALWAYS seem to win by 3 at the end.
I feel the same way about Pitt, although it's more like beating a team we have no business beating followed by losing to a team we have no business losing to.
I told my sister, a pitt alum, that if they beat nd I would buy her and myself pitt jerseys. I really want a old school Marino jersey, fuck the Irish
Beautiful run by Pitt's running back.
Oh, but IT IS a Dantonio coached team
Exactly. At some point announcers have to stop saying crap like that. Personal fouls and thuggish play is exactly what MSU is.
Pitt Touchdown. 10-6 lead over the fucking Irish
In classic NBC coverage they say "Pittsburgh is hanging around in this game." Newsflash they're beating you not hanging around
gets called for their 3rd personal foul in the last 10 minutes and Spielman says plays like that are not like a Mark Dantonio coached football team. What?
What do you expect from a Buckeye linebacker?
Well, an 18-yard punt became a 13-yard yard punt with the penalty, so the Buckeyes get excellent field position. Meanwhile, Urban Meyer is apparently intrigued by something literally IN the sideline in that particular shot.
Georgia trying their best to blow it.
I don't understand. Did they forget how they played D against us?
how in the hell did Denard not run all over these guys?
Crazy Spary Overpreparation
For every time an announcer proclaims that a State player just committed a "boneheaded" play that is "contrary to the way Coach Dantonio coaches the game"... At some point it becomes indicative of the coach, doesn't it?
You'd have enough nickels to pay for several hours' worth of parking in Ann Arbor in that case.
Nebreska's performance thus far gives me more confidence they could lose to Penn St next week.
Sparty is getting smoked because they have to respect Martinez as a passer. As much as everyone makes fun of the way Martinez throws the ball....this season he is light years better than Denard as a passer. Stats show it and the decision making shows it.
EDIT: The sparty Defense that is in regards to why Denard couldn't smoke them.
Martinez also has better WRs. That definitely helps.
Did not go well....punting back to Pitt. Time left in 1st half for some points!
of how good Michigan run defense has gotten...compare the MSU rush defense effort vs Nebraska to how Michigan did...
We know Nebraska isn't that good. We were moving the ball fine until Denard got hurt. Then they loded the box against a RS Freshman.
Once Denard went down, the game was virtually over. Nebraska was handed the game. But injuries are a part of football, and that's what Michigan gets for relying too much on one guy.
I mean no disrespect to Bellomy, though. That's a tough situation to ask of a RS freshman with no real game experience. We have no way of knowing if Gardner would have fared any better.
Complete role reversal from last year. We have to root for Sparty against Nebraska to stay alone at the top of the division.
Last year, Sparty had to root for us against Nebraska for that exact same reason.
nice acting job from Adams....wow.
What a flop...holy hell
After a terrible throw by Scheelhaase for another INT, there was Beckman on that sideline interference call: "I might remind you that there is nothing that says that GAs cannot be extra defenders."
In the first half, Scheelhaase has put on a clinic for east-west running.
Friendly reminder that b/c of the delay this game is playing while everyone else is at the half. It's on BTN
I don't understand... why can State stop Denard but not Martinez?!
I'd say it's the offense. Nebraska has better weapons that the D needs to be aware of. They have a great set of receivers. They have a good runningback. The presence of these players on the field makes it tougher for the Spartans D to focus solely on Martinez. With Michigan, you crowd the box. If not Denard, it's the running backs, who have not played very well on the whole.
seats available in the MSU student section right now if anyone is bored in East Lansing
Carry it high and tight. Bad fumble by State.
God damn you Sparty
Staeeee's student section is a disgrace! Half empty! Must be burning couches to stay warm.
Pitt scores to go up 17-6 on ND.
Domers in trouble!!!!
PI calls have gotten out of control.
football will be completely non-contact. All players will play in zorb balls to prevent any and all injuries. Contacting another players zorb ball with too much velocity will result in a 40 yard penalty and a season disqualification for said player
Scheelhaase drops back about seven or eight yards and throws a short pass for a loss, and then they run it to the original LOS, and then he gets sacked for a loss of another 10 yards. This drive is basically Illinois' entire season in a moving installation piece.
I think PSU's crushing of Purdue is the nail for Hope. Any views on likely replacements?
IU has been in the redzone all day and finally got a touchdown after a review. 14-10 Iowa now.
Might as well just institute a halo rule for receivers the way this is going
Pitt scores, opens lead to 17-6 in the 3rd quarter.
Please Pitt, keep the lead.
Now i get MSU fans.. It would suck to root for that team, i feel guilty wishing they complete the passes and stuff, yet they are always shooting themselves in the foot with stupid flags. Gotta be so frustrating to actually wish they win every game.
It's funny how they keep saying it doesn't look like a Dantonio coached team week in and week out when they go mad and start collecting personal fouls.
Hey, remember when Purdue was gonna win the division or maybe evn the B1G?!?!
Ummm, uh, well. Hmmm. Looks like they're gonna be 0-5 tonight.
You have to give O'Brien a lot of credit for what he has done this year.
If PSU beats Nebraska next week!
and Pitt with a pretty big return. About 40 yards out to the Pitt 45 or 50
Nice pick staee
Please hold on MooU and Pitt. Today may be a great day
INT by Martinez. Put in the endzone Sparty!
at the ND 10-15. Ray Graham just had a 40ish yard run
Pitts inside the 10 again.....MSU with ball trying to extend lead!
A Michigan win. A Nebraska loss. A ND loss.
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!
I also want Ohio to keep winning so when we beat them at the end of the year we'll have a victory over a top 10 team on the road!
After last weekend, PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN!
A little while ago, Illinois did get aggressive and go for the 2-point conversion to cut their deficit to 24.
The Buckeyes are edging into Illini territory up 38-14, and Braxton Miller managed to elude the Illinois defense to convert on 3rd and 6, but then, then the Illini were distracted by the butterfly flying lazily across the field.
Oh, and now it is 45-13 Buckeyes after a nice rush by Corey Brown through light coverage.
Notre Dame is pulling a Sparty No!
What a great day compared to last Saturday.
That interception was so dope.
your vocabulary is not...
The amount of mental mistakes by state is staggering.
Anyone else hate having to root for the Big Ten team with the second-douchiest fanbase against the team with the classiest fanbase?
Nebraska NOOOO? That was a huge late hit penalty.
Is there a Nebraska NOOOOOOOOOO yet?
Don't screw with me, Pitt. Beat those assholes and don't blow it in the 4th quarter.
I refuse to turn to NBC because any time I do, ND starts doing good things.
MSU inside the 5....come on Green and white team from east Lansing!
Not yet, but close. One or two more mistakes might do it.
EDIT: That fumble may be it.
jeez Terbush is still Qbing Purdue? that's a damn shame.
Today might be one of the best days this season. UM grabbing the top spot again and ND losing. Everything is good in the world again.
Great, you just jinxed everything.
Things are looking good right now. MSU up 23-14 (+XP?) and ND down 20-6
24-14...14:20 to go!
I think these refs are Michigan fans
Are you a poster on BWI?
Sparty benefits from a terrible late-hit call by the officials.
Who cares? Spartans are winning
U have nice bewbs
Pitt better not get into off coverage too soon! An entire quarter to go and already rushing 4 and dropping back into deep zones. Plenty of time left.....
NCAA needs to fine ND for their ridiculous field set-up. No person, band, or stage should be that close to the actual field of play. I wish those 2 Pitt defenders blasted every drum set over when they fell over there.
DAMMIT! Just fall on the ball!
Holy hell jump on the football. MSU could have put the game away there.
ND keeps possession.
FALL? Fall on it? Fall on the football anyone?
Has the same refs reviewing the pass that we had at Nebraska last week.
14 minutes left. Still don't have much confidence. Plz no Sparty No's!!
Gholston is overrated.
ND benefits from a very questionable PI call on 4th down
Notre Dame gets yet another call.
Horrible call by refs. ND was given that TD. This is the Stanford game all over again.
Irish No!!!! Missed the extra point.
Hated Pitts defense the entire drive.....they have to keep pressure on Or that QB will just run around and make plays. Missed XP....huge?
that was good defense on that PI call. ND got a gift.
Narduzzi dipping? Isn't that a NCAA violation?
What are your guys' thoughts on Carlos Hyde? Will he be a threat for Ohio in "The Game" or will our run D be able to shut him down?
He's a 230lbs bruiser with 740 yards and 14 TDs in 10 games.
Commentary from 30 seconds in the future "Well that's very uncharacteristic of a Mark Dantonio football team"
Another personal foul? No way.
Since Herbie predicted Purdue to win the Big Ten, they are about to be 0-5 and have been out scored 189-80.
Stupid late hot by Sparty.
Not sure why kids are making these plays....dantonio teams don't play this way!
Think that is there 5th one today?
I just do not know how many penalties it takes to get it through sparty's skull to not hit OOB.
That was a BS pass interference call against Pitt on 4th down there.
There we go Taylor!!!!
And by that, I mean YYEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!
gonna be coming back
What penalty will negate this defensive TD I wonder???
What else could it be?
So how many personal foul penalties does MSU average per game? Got to be near 5.
Hey, anyone know how tall Tyler Eifert is? I wish the NBC commentators would tell us.
When will the "MSU plays diciplined" meme die? That's the second time in 10 minutes that they almost lost a solid 7 points on an unecessary hit.
How was that a flag? Looked like a legal block.
MSU is definitely coached to be dirty but I'm not sure about that call. Anyone see a replay?
I see this coming.....
Maxwell just got the wind knocked out of him.
Knocked out of his head?
Darqueze Dennard is a player I wouldn't mind seeing on my NFL team. I'm sure a lot of us feel that way.
Great special team play by pitt
Maxwell may have gotten the wind knocked out of his brain.
Maxwell's reaction to that hit looked concussion-y.
That is a "getting your bell rung" moment. Wobbly on his feet after his own player picks him up. Shakes his head a couple times.
But of coarse he'll be fine tomorrow.
Kenny Guiton comes into this game to kill the final eight minutes or so, and immediately throws a bad pass on which Illinois still manages to get called for pass interference. In kind, Beckman has some of the backups on defense and they just let Guiton rush for about 30 yards.
Speaking of botched calls that was a helmet to helemt shot by Nebreska
He got the wind knocked out of his head.
MSU was 101st in penalty yds/play before this game. I bet they are dead last next week.
Fuck our lives.
MSU and Pitt can not put these games away...both are going down to the wire.
pitt is definitely going to choke it away. calling it now.
It's gonna be one of those 'luck of the Irish' type games that we'll have to suffer listening to FOREVER.
I bet ND wins in OT.
Too much time left. Have a horrible feeling ND is coming back.
Still don't know what to expect from MSU, other than late hits.
Michigan State Spartans...leading the nation in penalty yardage and missed tackles.
William Gholston unable to make a play? Shenanigans
From their own 2....well into Pitt territory....1st down at 35.
Both teams are going to lose.
You guys suck so much, that was pathetic
Stupid Sparty. Worthless.
Anyone else think Notre Dame's marching band was playing "Shots" during that measurement?
Yes, they were
What a fantastic design on Nebraska's part. Everyone other than Martinez ran zone left, and MSU bit.
MSU and Pitt are both the worse teams in their respective games trying desparately to cling to their lead and I don't feel good about either. Particularly MSU
Oy. This is stressful.
Don't care about ND (much) just want Michigan in control of its destiny again.
C'mon Spartans finish them.
if they don't get the TD + 2P here then they may be in deep trouble
Nebraska has an excellent Offensive Coordinator.
ND picked off!!!! Woo!!!!
INT FOR PITT, WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Golson! Ha! Karma for that bullshit PI flag
Hell yea Williams...........nice INT for Pitt in the endzone.
Golson picked off!
Pitt int in end zone lets goooooo
Picked off by Pitt in the end zone. Lol ND!
ND just threw an interception!
Pitt now has to not play prevent offense
Another drop by MSU. So uncharacteristic of them
Should have just double posted this.
