Late Afternoon Games Open Thread

Submitted by jcgold on

Right now, I'm watching the end of Arkansas and Vandy on SEC network and Mizzou TA&M on FX.  Others may catch the end of Sparty's defeat on ESPN.  As for the rest of the afternoon, the schedule breaks down as follows (games at 3:30):

Oklahoma at K-State - ESPN

Illinois at Penn State - ABC/ESPN2

Iowa at Minnesota - BTN

Baylor at Ok. State - ESPN2/ABC

Georgia vs. Florida - CBS

Navy at ND - NDBC

The rest of the listings can be found here.  Discuss and enjoy the rest of our victorious day.

Nebraska got smoked by Wisconsin, but then beat down MSU who had beaten Wisconsin.  MSU got smoked by ND but then beat us (a team that beat the Irish).  Home field advantage seems to be huge as well.  Glad we get the Huskers in the Big House and hopefully we can take care of business against everybody else.

Yeah, I don't think the top half of the Big 10 could play with the top half of the SEC this year.

LSU - Wisconsin

Alabama - Nebraska

Arkansas - MSU

South Carolina - Michigan

Georgia - Penn State

Florida - Illinois

I see 5+ losses for the Big 10 there. Strangely enough, I see MSU having the best shot of the group, but they'd still be in trouble facing Arkansas.

I forgot about Lattimore being out.

However, Penn State couldn't score on Georgia either. The final might be 6-4, but if PSU can't score on Illinois, they're not scoring against anyone good. Also, Iowa isn't any good either. Evidence: tie game with Minnesota in the 2nd quarter (even though Iowa has like a 250-100 yardage advantage).

I'd love to think otherwise, but recent history shows the Big 10 getting strangled against average or better SEC teams.

Just to keep tabs on the early games still finishing...

Vandy fumbled as they were about to go into the endzone and go up by 15. Arkansas returned it for the score and 2 point conversion. Vandy has successfully blown a 15 point lead now.

A&M showing that they can still blow second half leads with the best of them, though. Mizzou has scored 14 straight in the 4th to take a 3 point lead, but A&M is driving.

3 points Sparty? Why couldn't we play them at home this year? Urban and Chris declaring Wisky still the best team in the B1G. Don't think that is debatable, really.

did anyone catch the all spartans and huskers together at midfield after the game? Looked like a Nebraska coach was speaking to both teams as they all kneeled and bowed their heads.

Any idea what thats all about?

I honestly think that MSU was a hiccup for the team and the coaches.  As long as the Oline can heal-up a bit we will have a good chance of winning every game we play from here on out.  The play of the defense is the most encouraging thing so far along with Fitz running the ball well.

Mizzou punter misses a 46 yard field goal as time expires. OT in the Big XII.

Also, Vandy is close to the red zone, down 3 with less than 2 minutes left. This could finally be the week Arkansas gets burned.

We have found the real Gibbons and he plays in Nashville. Vandy misses a short field goal at the end of the game to lose.

Mizzou stopped A&M in OT to get the 7 point win in a future SEC match-up.

MSU loses @ Iowa, wins the rest. We lose to either Illinois or OSU but win the rest. Nebraska loses to us but wins the rest. We go to championship due to division losses and then head-to-head with Nebraska.

ND TD. Gray run.

Oklahoma up 14-0 now and Okie St. up 7-0.

PSU fumble gave Illinois good field position, but they have been completely stone walled by the PSU defense. Man they are nasty.

How great is it to watch some other team who knows they can't kick field goals? Florida has an injured kicker and has already missed one field goal, so they went for and got 4th and 19 and are up 7-0 now. Sad, UGA.

Anyone remember that 6-4 game a few years ago when PSU beat Iowa? One of my favorite ugly games ever. Anyway, no one has scored in Happy Valley, obviously.

ND is up 14-0, but just fumbled a backward pass. Originally ruled incomplete but then overruled on review...I won't get started.

Kansas St. making a push, only down 10-14 now. OSU up 21-0 on Baylor.

Is anyone watching Iowa? Are they trying? Are they playing with one arm tied behind their back?

K-State rolls off 17 unanswered to go up 17-14.  Bill Snyder is back to being Bill Snyder...which means they will lose a bad one later this season for sure.

And Iowa, its about time.

The most awful game of the year.  Teams combine for 2 for 17 on third downs and only 8 first downs in the game.  Zooker gives up three points for a feeble fake attempt (with Dimke, a kicker with a perfect record!).  Fool, in this game 3 points could win it!

Field goal miscues have become an epidemic this afternoon. K St. missed a field goal that would have tied the game. Then again Florida just fumbled the ball right back.

Georgia just missed a field goal, but they look inept anyway. 17-3 UF.

Illinois-PSU is becoming an epic game of futility. Illinois had a TD taken back due to penalty and then fumbled the field goal snap before the snap. First team to 2 will win that game. I feel like Ron Zook could trademark the term derp.

Navy is not good. 35-7 ND last I checked.

OSU, on the other hand, is for real and is murdering a pretty decent Baylor team.

For anyone interested, BC could win their first I-A game today. Up 21-3 on Maryland in a game full of mud that is being watched by at least 200 people.

Clearly the wrong call on the interception but Zook didn't call time out and PSU snapped it before the booth called for a second look. I'll miss him.
