Late Afternoon Games Open Thread
Right now, I'm watching the end of Arkansas and Vandy on SEC network and Mizzou TA&M on FX. Others may catch the end of Sparty's defeat on ESPN. As for the rest of the afternoon, the schedule breaks down as follows (games at 3:30):
Oklahoma at K-State - ESPN
Illinois at Penn State - ABC/ESPN2
Iowa at Minnesota - BTN
Baylor at Ok. State - ESPN2/ABC
Georgia vs. Florida - CBS
Navy at ND - NDBC
The rest of the listings can be found here. Discuss and enjoy the rest of our victorious day.

3 or 4 way B1G tie!
October 29th, 2011 at 3:19 PM ^
Nebraska got smoked by Wisconsin, but then beat down MSU who had beaten Wisconsin. MSU got smoked by ND but then beat us (a team that beat the Irish). Home field advantage seems to be huge as well. Glad we get the Huskers in the Big House and hopefully we can take care of business against everybody else.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:41 PM ^
LSU and Bama are better than any team in the B1G. Buuuut, The top half of the B1G is better than the top half of the SEC this year.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:57 PM ^
Yeah, I don't think the top half of the Big 10 could play with the top half of the SEC this year.
LSU - Wisconsin
Alabama - Nebraska
Arkansas - MSU
South Carolina - Michigan
Georgia - Penn State
Florida - Illinois
I see 5+ losses for the Big 10 there. Strangely enough, I see MSU having the best shot of the group, but they'd still be in trouble facing Arkansas.
October 29th, 2011 at 5:02 PM ^
South Carolina has serious trouble without their projected starting qb and taiblacks out. Georgia could not score on Penn State. I would trade iowa with illinois and chalk it up as a victory.
October 29th, 2011 at 5:11 PM ^
I forgot about Lattimore being out.
However, Penn State couldn't score on Georgia either. The final might be 6-4, but if PSU can't score on Illinois, they're not scoring against anyone good. Also, Iowa isn't any good either. Evidence: tie game with Minnesota in the 2nd quarter (even though Iowa has like a 250-100 yardage advantage).
I'd love to think otherwise, but recent history shows the Big 10 getting strangled against average or better SEC teams.
October 29th, 2011 at 6:08 PM ^
I hear you on the recent history as in last year but remember what happened in 2009. Gig Ten did really well in the bowl games. Remember for all of our doormats the sec has vandy, kentucky, tenesee, ole miss, msu (yeah I remember last january)

Final nail in the coffin for MSU. God I wish wisky had beaten them
October 29th, 2011 at 3:20 PM ^
So glad MSU lost. MSU has now lost both times they've gone to opponent stadiums - ND and Nebraska - and won against both of the decent oppenents they've played at home - Wiscy and us (F*&^ you, Chris Jones).
It's too bad Wisconsin had to play MSU at Spartan Stadium twice in a row and we had to play in a trash tornado.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
They did beat Ohio State on the road.
October 29th, 2011 at 3:14 PM ^
Just to keep tabs on the early games still finishing...
Vandy fumbled as they were about to go into the endzone and go up by 15. Arkansas returned it for the score and 2 point conversion. Vandy has successfully blown a 15 point lead now.
A&M showing that they can still blow second half leads with the best of them, though. Mizzou has scored 14 straight in the 4th to take a 3 point lead, but A&M is driving.
3 points Sparty? Why couldn't we play them at home this year? Urban and Chris declaring Wisky still the best team in the B1G. Don't think that is debatable, really.
October 29th, 2011 at 3:25 PM ^
AR-kansas just put a FG on the board and lead by 3 now. 31-28
October 29th, 2011 at 3:35 PM ^
Dumb penalty by Mizzou negated a fourth down conversion. A&M has the ball near midfield with a minute left in a tie game.
Edit: A&M fumble. Now Mizzou ball at midfield.
October 29th, 2011 at 3:19 PM ^
did anyone catch the all spartans and huskers together at midfield after the game? Looked like a Nebraska coach was speaking to both teams as they all kneeled and bowed their heads.
Any idea what thats all about?
October 29th, 2011 at 3:24 PM ^
Pretty common in the NFL

Sparty got stomped in this game. Me likes it.
October 29th, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
I honestly think that MSU was a hiccup for the team and the coaches. As long as the Oline can heal-up a bit we will have a good chance of winning every game we play from here on out. The play of the defense is the most encouraging thing so far along with Fitz running the ball well.
October 29th, 2011 at 3:33 PM ^
It's going to be ugly as hell, but with this snow I think I'll be watching PSU-Illinois.
Though it would have been ugly without the snow as well.
October 29th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
Mizzou punter misses a 46 yard field goal as time expires. OT in the Big XII.
Also, Vandy is close to the red zone, down 3 with less than 2 minutes left. This could finally be the week Arkansas gets burned.
October 29th, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
Vandy kicker just shanked a 27 yd FG...feel bad for the kid, but he kicked it dead right of the posts.
October 29th, 2011 at 3:48 PM ^
October 29th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
We have found the real Gibbons and he plays in Nashville. Vandy misses a short field goal at the end of the game to lose.
Mizzou stopped A&M in OT to get the 7 point win in a future SEC match-up.
October 29th, 2011 at 3:53 PM ^
MSU loses @ Iowa, wins the rest. We lose to either Illinois or OSU but win the rest. Nebraska loses to us but wins the rest. We go to championship due to division losses and then head-to-head with Nebraska.
October 29th, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
Florida and Navy both have missed field goals already.
I'm enjoying the snow storm in Happy Valley.
Oklahoma already up 7. Methinks that game will get ugly.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:01 PM ^
LOL. Penn St. kicker just Gibbonzed (2010) a FG attempt.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:09 PM ^
ND TD. Gray run.
Oklahoma up 14-0 now and Okie St. up 7-0.
PSU fumble gave Illinois good field position, but they have been completely stone walled by the PSU defense. Man they are nasty.
How great is it to watch some other team who knows they can't kick field goals? Florida has an injured kicker and has already missed one field goal, so they went for and got 4th and 19 and are up 7-0 now. Sad, UGA.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:12 PM ^
October 29th, 2011 at 4:12 PM ^
Minnesota keeping it close? Iowa just missed a chip shot.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:21 PM ^
Yeah I'm watching this one to size up the hawkeyes a bit ... No points against the lowly gophers in the first quarter! Not a bad sign. I'd love to put a stomping on iowa next weekend (I'll be there in kinnick stadium wearing my maize & blue!)
October 29th, 2011 at 4:13 PM ^
1st score wins in Happy Valley today. Been a painful game to watch.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:22 PM ^
It might be one of those 3-6 or 0-3 victories.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:26 PM ^
5-0? It could happen.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:27 PM ^
Do they have players capable for Hulk smash?
October 29th, 2011 at 4:30 PM ^
Anyone remember that 6-4 game a few years ago when PSU beat Iowa? One of my favorite ugly games ever. Anyway, no one has scored in Happy Valley, obviously.
ND is up 14-0, but just fumbled a backward pass. Originally ruled incomplete but then overruled on review...I won't get started.
Kansas St. making a push, only down 10-14 now. OSU up 21-0 on Baylor.
Is anyone watching Iowa? Are they trying? Are they playing with one arm tied behind their back?
October 29th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
Minnesoter is playing tough, good to see the Gophers keep fighting for coach Kill
no score with 10 to go in the half
October 29th, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
Touchdown Navy. 14-7 Notre Dame.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:38 PM ^
Marcus Coker has 174 yards on 15 carries. Iowa still has no points. They really need to just hand it off to him.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:40 PM ^
K-State rolls off 17 unanswered to go up 17-14. Bill Snyder is back to being Bill Snyder...which means they will lose a bad one later this season for sure.
And Iowa, its about time.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
HA...Mark Richt just cant beat florida no matter who is the coach. he cant have much time left at Georgia.
October 29th, 2011 at 4:56 PM ^
Just turned on the psu/illinois game and the back up qb for illinois is in. Anyone know what why?
October 29th, 2011 at 4:57 PM ^
Scheelhaase took a shot to the head.
October 29th, 2011 at 5:00 PM ^
Thanks. Hes back in now. Looks to be ok.
October 29th, 2011 at 5:04 PM ^
The most awful game of the year. Teams combine for 2 for 17 on third downs and only 8 first downs in the game. Zooker gives up three points for a feeble fake attempt (with Dimke, a kicker with a perfect record!). Fool, in this game 3 points could win it!
October 29th, 2011 at 5:09 PM ^
Not if you like defensive battles.
/agreed with you its a yawner
October 29th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
Did he say it was an intentional fake? I thought he just bobbled the snap with the wet ball.
October 29th, 2011 at 5:07 PM ^
Field goal miscues have become an epidemic this afternoon. K St. missed a field goal that would have tied the game. Then again Florida just fumbled the ball right back.
Georgia just missed a field goal, but they look inept anyway. 17-3 UF.
Illinois-PSU is becoming an epic game of futility. Illinois had a TD taken back due to penalty and then fumbled the field goal snap before the snap. First team to 2 will win that game. I feel like Ron Zook could trademark the term derp.
Navy is not good. 35-7 ND last I checked.
OSU, on the other hand, is for real and is murdering a pretty decent Baylor team.
For anyone interested, BC could win their first I-A game today. Up 21-3 on Maryland in a game full of mud that is being watched by at least 200 people.
October 29th, 2011 at 5:24 PM ^
Couple of long FGs in that KSU-OU game though. OU 53 yarder to end the half, and KSU had a long one earlier. Big difference with and against the wind

October 29th, 2011 at 5:35 PM ^
Did not know where to put this, but this along with the information on Kelly in 3 & Out makes him seem like a jerk.
October 29th, 2011 at 5:48 PM ^
Minnesota hit double digits. 14-10 Iowa.
