Lasting Effect on Rest of Season?

Submitted by joeyb on

Do you think that either the loss yesterday or withholding Tate from that final will have a net positive effect on the season? Will either one of those cause us to win 1-2 more games in the second half of the season that we would not have won if they had not occurred?

Tate seems like a kid who is resilient, and eager to keep proving himself. He is not a newby to the sports world either. Of course new to this level, but this can't be too rare.

If Tate wants to play quarterback at such a high caliber place, he needs to roll with the punches and get back up after a fall. That is the way to any form of greatness.

If he wanted to play for a "feelgoodery" he would have to go to lower caliber university.

If Tate plays well against Del St. (and gets back on track, so to speak), and does at least decent against PSU, then he's fine.

If he looks blah or average against Del St., I'd be a bit concerned.

I tend to think that we will see a lot more of D-Rob next week. Tate is a tough kid and I get the feeling that this is not the first time somebody yelled at him. Tate (I think) will get to start and will (as mentioned before) get back on track and get his head straight but then I think D-Rob will come in and play a lot to get him a little more acclamated to the system (kind of like what TF got in the spring game) IMHO.

I'm not sure, but hopefully Rich Rod realized that D-Rob can't drive the team down the field through the air. His TD drive was impressive, but Tate needs to be on the field for the two minute drill.

I hope that part of what our coaches are doing is working with the players to develop skills which will help them improve in understanding the offense improving technique, and decision making.

I suspect it's a little early to come to the conclusion that he "can't"run a drive that is totally through the air. First he hasn't been asked, nor has Tate, for that matter.

I was pleased to see Denard make the completions on the scoring drive where we closed the gap to two.

I think Tate is the better passer, has more poise, and makes better decisions.

I also think that part of having a Freshman QB - make that two. Is that they make plenty of mistakes and learn a lot in year one.

Develop them both, trust them in game situations. It will take time for this team to reach it's potential, and we need depth at positions - especially QB.

I'm pleased where this team is versus last year and the direction we are headed.

Not ready to label any freshman player with "can't"
