Larkin and Copp NHL debuts

Submitted by alnigoblue on

Larkin 1G, 1A, 1 hit, 1/1 on faceoffs, 13+ minutes, Wings win 4-0

Copp 3 hits, 3/4 on faceoffs, 7+ minutes, Jets win 3-1

So, great opening game for Larkin, solid one for Copp

CORRECTION (thanks to BrownJuggernaut and kurpit):  not Copp's debut; he played Thursday night and one game last season

Larkin was the #2 star of the game and they played the Victors during his ceremonial skate.

BTW-It's nice to have such a great organization like the Wings in the city of Detroit. We've had some awful teams over the past 25 years. Lions 0-16, Tigers 119 loss season, Pistons teal era...

It's a really nice problem to have when your goalie has a shutout and only gets third star of the game.  With about 3:40 to go in the game, a guy in the row behind me started talking about how great it was to start the season with a shutout.  After getting screamed at by everyone around him, he didn't speak the rest of the game.  Great start to the Blashill era.

possibly because our program was crappy - but it's looking more and more like he made the right call. I'd say it's all but certain at this point.

Love seeing a Michigan native (and Michigan alum) play for the Wings. Too cool

Even if he had started the year in Grand Rapids it still would have been the right call. He had nothing left to prove in college and had to go pro.

Opening the season in the show, on the first line, and being 2nd star with a goal and an assist is beyond everyone's expectations from when he made the decision to go.

I happened to be in town for my Godchild's Wedding Saturday night and the Northwestern game. I got super lucky that opening day for the Wings was tonight too! First time I've ever had glass seats at the Joe and it was amazing! When they were annoucing the stars of the game, they played our fight song when Larkin came out and MSU's fight song when Abby came out. I thought that was great. Everything about the night was pretty awesome, Blashill's first game, Franzen's first game back, Babcock on the other side, a shutout for Howard, a Hat Trick for Abby, and Larkin's first game and first goal. It was more than I ever could've expected.

The guy was just such a pleasure to watch in an otherwise disappointing season last year. Really takes some of the sting away that he is with the Wings and apparently ready.

Wonderful day for his parents. Talk about a memory. He played older than he is but watching his after game interview he looked so much the kid he is. Baby faced killer.
