Laquon Treadwell: I have no favorites

Submitted by StephenRKass on

The other day, Aquaman commented that Michigan fans should not assume Laquon Treadwell is in the bag. Rather, his recruitment will be a long, hard slog. Over at Eleven Warriors, they have an interview (LINK:) catching up with Laquon Treadwell. Here is how Laquon responded th their question about Michigan:

Some people say Michigan is the leader for you. Is that true and if not who is your leader or top schools right now?

That is not true about Michigan. I did like it up there but I have no favorites right now. I really liked all of the schools I visited already, but I still have a lot of schools to see before I narrow down my choices at all.

Of course, when you know you're talking to an Ohio blog, and are asked a leading question, it is easy to give the answer you know they want to hear. Regardless of where Treadwell ends up, it is clear that Michigan and Ohio will be duking it out for a number of recruits. We will win some (Kalis,) Ohio will win some (Dunn.) We will win others (Dymonte Thomas,) Ohio will win others (Armani Reeves.)

I'm absolutely thrilled that Michigan has done so well on the Offensive Line for both 2012 & 2013. The big uglies make a huge difference, and too often go unnoticed. But the recruiting battles are far from over, and getting in first or having a lead doesn't guarantee anything.

I will say, I really want to see Michigan stomp Ohio in head to head recruiting battles. Right now, I see the following as being critical direct competition for recruits:

  • WR  Laquon Treadwell
  • WR  Robert Foster
  • RB  Ty Isaac
  • LB  Ben Gedeon
  • CB  Kendall Fuller
  • CB  Vernon Hargreaves
  • S    Sua Cravens
  • DE  Joey Bosa
  • DT  Henry Poggi

If we get 4 - 5 of these guys, 2 - 3 go to Ohio, and 2 - 3 go elsewhere, that would be awesome, and would be what I'd consider a victory. Given Hoke & Mattison, and the offense we'll be running and the defense Mattison will be leading, I think that Isaac, Gedeon, Cravens, and Poggi would fit better at Michigan. But what do I know?

In the above list, while I would love all of them, I'd particularly like Gedeon, Cravens, Poggi, Isaac, and either of the two wide receivers. But it is clear that this is a battle, and neither Hoke nor Meyer will yield.

I'm pretty sure I've liked all of them, so don't take this the wrong way...but if there was a record for posts in a week, you've broken it since you caught the flu.

Again, I've liked them; good content/analysis.

Seemed every other post was his. Most were pretty good though. Not sure if six is a lot. During bowl week I've probably doubled that in open threads. (Though LSA2000 took the load off this year). But it has been a lot for him.

Yes, this is similar to Diamond's recruitment. But there is one critical difference. We are so far out in front, with so many solid prospects, I think that even a higher caliber of recruit will need to fish or cut bait. When there isn't room for someone like Pocic, a four star recruit, it serves notice to other four stars. If you want to go to Michigan, you're playing with fire to string things out in your recruitment. There are other offers out there that Michigan will allow to commit TODAY.

In this particular case, if Foster commits, and Devon Allen, or Sebastien LaRue, the train has left the station, and Treadwell would be left out in the cold. I think some of the LB prospects are already contemplating that happening in the 2 - 3 openings available.

Please do post Kate Upton, but I have some specific requests.

  1. Please find and post pictures of Kate Upton in Michigan attire.
  2. Please find and post video of Kate Upton singing "Hail to the Victors," while wearing Michigan attire.
  3. Please find and post pictures or video of Kate Upton dissing Ohio, and dissing Michigan State.
  4. Make sure all such pictures are sent to Michigan prospects, especially Michigan prospects also being courted by Ohio.
  5. ???? immediately thereafter, 8 four and five star prospects commit to Michigan?
  6. Profit. Money? No, not money. Something infinitely better. The currency of this site. You know what it is. I will implore the moderators and grand poobah to shower on you points beyond imagine. Your name will be invoked like Raback. I would even personally sacrifice all my points and go to Bolivia for you, never to post again.

Caveat:  There is one lame picture of Kate floating around the internet ether, probably taken with a cell phone, lying down, with a grey Michigan sweatshirt. That doesn't count. Nor any like it.

Bonus points:  Kate dancing on the beach in suitable Michigan swimming attire, like mgrowold's wife avatar.

Extra bonus points:  Kate as a child or high school student, in suitable Michigan attire.

Any underage pics should obviously be appropriate. And probably already be in in the public domain. You do raise an interesting question:  if a picture has previously been published, say, for instance, in a HS yearbook, or in a model book since she began modeling, I would assume that is both appropriate and legal, even though under 18. But I don't know.

Regardless, the rest of my requests, sans that one, are appropriate, and actually, more relevant.

but I saw an opportunity for some humor and I took the chance. Whether I was funny or not is a matter of opinion, I guess. But back to what SRK was saying, I'm guessing if it was in a yearbook it would appropiate, and even in a model book. I'm assuming model agencies have the legal aspects of photo shoots for models below 18 worked out.

I hope I can laugh at myself. Once that's gone, isn't much left. But I just hear that CYA train roaring down the track. In these PC times, you almost can't be too careful, can you? Well, I'm off to bed. G'Night, maybe you'll find some good pics to post, although I won't check until after the Bball game.

While it is nice to be able to look at pictures of half-naked girls and read about Michigan football at the same time, I've gotten a few too many dirty looks while the Kate Upton craze was happening and I was checking MGoBlog during class. Just as you and others like to be able to read MGoBlog in the office, I like to be able to read MGoBlog in class.

SRK? Was it when he created that thread asking for people to keep their avatars appropriate?

Anyways, to segment into something else. Have you ever thought of how most celebrities are only crazy hot because they use so much make up? I'd much rather meet a girl who didn't use a crazy ton of makeup than a lot of the models who look like a different person without it.

Just another late night, MGoBlog thought.

I wouldn't call it a stigma. He made a post asking for a reduction in the amount of bewbz being posted on MGoBlog (this was very warranted at the time and needed to be said), but the way he worded it was worth laughing at, mostly because it sounded like his wife was reading it over his shoulder at the time.

I'd be happy with less fake tanning. I know a girl who was beautiful in high school (we were both class of 2008), and now her skin looks terrible because she's been tanning every four hours for the past eight years.

I'm not sure what to call it though. Would it be the SRK meme?

Anyways, do you know when he made the post? I'm trying to figure out if I was around for that.

I agree with less fake tanning. There is absolutely nothing attractive about looking like an oompa loompa, although I guess that's more spray tanning. But even with the fake tanning, I've never found it attractive when it's done in the middle of winter, or summer for that matter. At least to me,  it sends out a sense of superficialness that I don't care for.

My mistake for posting the wrong thread. To make up, here is an insightful passage from my favorite song evar.

No D coordinator seems to have an answer

A Michigan Man so glad you didn't transfer

Under the lights my heart still races

Because of you I don't mind tripping over laces

Say you can't play QB in the NFL

Well I think you play QB pretty damn well

You could win the Heisman it's your senior year

If you cut your dreads I want a souvenir

Together so long can't stand to be apart

16 on the field number one in my heart

Without you it's gonna be hard

I wish you never had to leave because I love you Denard

Judging by your join date, you were not around, at least in a posting sense. You might have lurked around the site for awhile before joining but it was in late 2010. Here's the link to the original post, though it's been locked and comments removed, but you can still read the original post. http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/please-avoid-nsfw-or-home-pics-posts

This is the correct post. Mine was his follow up to the link here. I'm leaving my original post just because it's part of the saga.

Edit: I've always wondered where this quote came from:

If this feels like getting back to Michigan, it's the Michigan of your dreams, the Michigan you left back in Peoria when you shipped to Saigon. You've got one good picture of her and she's that pretty every day in an ugly place.

Is that original Brian, or is that a modified movie/book/song quote? I've been wondering since he first posted it. Whether it's him or not, the sentiment is beautiful.

This is somewhat on the path of what you're saying (I think!?), if not at least an add-on to your thought.  The way we glorify celebrities baffles me; by glorify, I mean consider them the most "beautiful" people.  I've been saying it for years, and it may seem obvious to some but maybe not so to others: the most beautiful on this planet are not swimsuit models, or actresses, or porn-stars, or anything of the sort.  They're the everyday people in the streets we run across.  The ones who don't have to cake-on makeup to present themselves and are absolutely stunning and gorgeous regardless.  They can be girls you see at a bar, in class, or pass down the sidewalk.  But they aren't famous and nobody who's anybody knows who they are and they don't appear in US Weekly.  I could go on and expand upon this philospophy(?) but I won't.  Enough after-a-night-out-drinking, late-night-thought-expounding for me.

When you spend thousands and thousands of dollars on  make-up, haircuts, and cosmetic procedures, it's hard not to look beautiful. But when you can walk around without any make-up or cosmetics, and still make people look, that's true beauty.

Since Laquon Treadwell and Anthony Standifer go to the same HS, could Treadwell potentially have the same problem with admissions that Standifer did - lack of two years of  foreign language credits?  Could that be why he has no favorites ?

Standifer has not signed a LOI yet.

Treadwell was very excited to get the Alabama offer. I would really like it if he picked Michigan, but it seems like a struggle to get these recruits who are very interested in being a highly picked draft prospect, which Saban can undoubtedly offer.

It would be especially disappointing if we missed out on treadwell because we were one of the first to take interest in him when he visited with Standifer back last year.

With Morris doing his best to recruit other top players, it really surprises me that Michigan doesn't seem to lead for any WRs.

I also figured WR would be the easiest position for us to recruit.  I like really Dukes, but he was a life long Michigan lean, and it sounds like the Big House alone was almost enough to get him to commit.

Going forward, I hope at least one highly ranked WR decides to team up with Shane and Jaron.

What else could he say? "Oh BTW, my favorite is Michigan!?".

If he chooses to come, we welcome him with open arms. If not, then wish him good luck. There are about 10 WR offers out there and I am sure the coaching staff will be happy to get any of them.

when someone seems high on Michigan early but fails to commit and/or begins to draw out their recruitment, it doesn't bode well in the end

Guys like Jordan Diamond and Kris Frost ring a bell. I'm sure there's others that I've forgotten by now. I'm not expecting Treadwell to come to Michigan anymore
