The Fab Five focused a fair amount on him specifically in their documentary as well.  Who cares?

You miss my point.  I have no problem with him discussing the Fab Five in his documentary.

In the linked video, he acts as if Jalen Rose had recently called him a "bitch" and a "pussy."  Which is not remotely true -- Jalen was describing how he felt about Laettner as a stupid 18 year old, but not attempting to justify those feelings.

I think Laettner's feigned offense is particularly ironic since it arises in the midst of his promoting his own documentary about how everyone hated him when he was in college.

First, I thought he liked that kind of stuff.

Second, from that doc, who came out looking like the biggest, baddest foe of the 5?

A lot was made of Jalen's comments, but that was just a snippet.  What I took from it was that Jalen said this is what we thought, and boy were we wrong.

Laetner could play.

What I took from it was that Jalen said this is what we thought, and boy were we wrong.

Exactly.   In the linked video Laettner acts as if Jalen called him a pussy today, when Jalen actually was saying "when I was a stupid 18 year old, I thought Laettner was a pussy."

And it's particularly ironic that he whines about this while at the same time promoting his own documentary about people not liking him in college.

Exactly.  Anyone who bothered to watch the whole piece saw the guys say they first thought Laettner and Duke were soft and that they then learned otherwise.  I never understood why people were mad about what Jalen Rose said he thought when he was 18 years old.

EDIT: beaten to the punch by Fuzzy Dunlop.

I really wish Michigan had the upper hand in the Duke rivalry... Instead were down 22-8 :( Hate Laettner...dude was even on the dream team riding the bench that bastard while Isiah was blackballed.

If I remember correctly, the fab five also said that AFTER they played against him that they had a lot of respect for his skills as a player. I guess CL focusing only on the negative gets him more press for his 30 for 30???

Their biggest problem is that the story isn't about THEM.  The Fab Five was the story and continues to be the story.  We would probably bitch too if we had won the championships Duke won and someone else got the publicity.  They don't understand how unique the Fab Five was at that point in college basketball history.

I think that's what they were going for by saying what they did about him. But I remember Jalen saying that he found out by playing laettner that he was actually good.

Duke fans in general are still pissed about the Fab 5 documentary. So this fits. It's a lot like listening to Joe Morgan bitch about baseball fans only remembering Fisk's game 6 HR while allegedly forgetting that the Reds won the 1975 World Series.

Well, he's getting it... I don't understand why ESPN wanted to narrow in so much on Laettner. An overall look at Duke Basketball would be pretty interesting, but unless there is something particularly earth shattering in the documentary it's going to be "Laettner was a big white dude who was really good in college, sucked in the pros and who everyone justifiably hated."

He averaged 17 points, 8 boards & 3 assists on the Timberwolves for his first 4 seasons. Also had a nice run in Atlanta for 3 seasons with 16 points & 8 rebounds. When he was on Detroit Laettner had a solid per 36 minutes.

Injuries played a major part into his NBA career, He tore his achilles after becoming an All-Star. I know it's unpopular to support the guy, but his numbers dont lie. So I don't think he "sucked" in the NBA.

He does come across as hard to like I admit though, unless you're a Dukie.

Of course he's going to complain - the Fab Five ripping him a new one was a significant part of their documentary, so as a counter it makes sense for him to discuss it as well in promoting his documentary.  Also, who really cares all that much about Laettner in 2015?  Not like the Fab Five has aged particularly well, but Laettner absolutely seems like a guy who only really remained popular because of his connection to Duke and that shot against Kentucky.  He's a bit like a random Yankee like Bernie Williams - a good player, but given higher prominence because he played in NYC.  Duke is a name program, so Laettner being a star there gives people a chance to "hate" him as opposed to completely forget him like most other college players.

About the Fab Five documentary is that the players are describing how they felt at age 18 and 19.  Perhaps the best quote from Jalen in that bit is where he says "I thought Christian Laettner was an overrated pussy...until I got on the court with him and realized he had game."

The documentary then shows Laettner winning the tip and then blowing by C-Webb for a thunderous slam.  The point of that is to show that the Fab Five were a bit hotheaded but grew up.

I hated his guts when he was at Duke (because I was a dumb kid), but the guy was a great player.  He has back to back titles, was on the dream team and played in the NBA.  That being said he seems like a big whiner.  Who cares a couple 18 year old kids thought you were a bitch or a pussy.  It made for good television.  He got the last laugh by winning that title game. I'm not understanding why he seems so taken back by the comments of Rose and King.
