Kyle Young Update (17 Bball Offer) - UM Among Schools Recruiting Him the Hardest

Submitted by Matt EM on

Interview with Kyle Young (17 Bball Offer), the #71 player in the country for 2017 per ESPN. Young tells me UM is among the schools recruiting him the hardest. Hopefully we're able to land Kyle, I think he's a great fit at the 4, and certainly a talent upgrade at that position.

Isn't he somewhat small for the 4? I know we've been playing Irvin and GR3 in the past like that but they were never perfect fits there. I get that shooting ability is more important but everyone always says that Wilson would be perfect at that spot if he gets it all together.

The NBA combine takes the only 'legit' measurements I know of and GR measured 6'6.5" in shoes (which is what everyone uses) and 6'5.5 in bare feet.

Young's listed at 6'6 and so, if he like 95% of other people, he was/is an inch or two shorter than that in bare feet.  He may have grown though.

I'm disputing here only because there's a pattern of criticizing GR3 around these parts even though he's by far the best wing forward Michigan's had in the Beilein era (pending Irvin's senior year.)

I agree Young is big enough to play the 4 for Beilein.

But I've seen Kyle several times over the past month live, and even 6'7 is too stingy IMO, just think the sites have yet to update. I'd say Kyle is a legit 6'8 and most likely 2 inches taller than GR3. No knock on GR3 at all

Young must be one of the most important players on Michigan's board for '17. The four spot in '17-'18 is set to be DJ Wilson and a bunch of broom handles taped together as of now.

Is there a reason you don't ask these guys which programs stand out to them (i.e., whether they have a leader / leaders)? With both this interview and the Jamal Cain interview, I remember skimming to look for that answer, and I don't think you asked either of them about it.

The leader board for most of these kids will be totally different come July after the last live evaluation period, and more offers come their way. Also, I obviously know who leads for most of these kids, but their willingness to disclose that in a public format is a very different story. You can kind of gather from context though, with questions like 'which schools do you hear from the most' or 'which schools are recruiting you the hardest', which schools compose the top group.
