Good news indeed. I didn't see anything saying if he would receive some type of redshirt though, which would be even better news. Definitely can't hurt to have another interior lineman to choose from.

Did the coaching staff know Bosch was leaving the team before the App State game?  He played a lot last year, even started games.  At that point, was there any reason to think he wouldn't be playing in any games this year?

I don't think you can lump this in with other "useless" redshirt burns.  It was just an unfortunate timing of events.  Should Hoke keep all non-starters out of the first game in case they have personal issues and need to step away from the team for a while?

Risk it for 1 snap? Fuck Hoke is an idiot. It's called being smart and protecting your resources. What did he gain from having an eligible player take 1 snap for a knee? Why not roll all out all of the possible players for the kneel down. It will cost him a red shirt and Hokes blank stare will be the reason or...... well ya know had we known he was leaving we probably wouldn't have played him, but uh I would still make that call. We just need to coach the kids better.

Without Bosch holding the line on that kneel-down, Appy State might have burst through, caused and recovered a fumble, and scored a 38-point TD to tie it up.

Bosch already played this season (as stated in the link).  However, he may have a shot at a medical redshirt.  We don't know why he left the program, and I don't want to speculate, but if there's a medically related connection (even if it's a stretch) he should probably be able to get the medical redshirt.

In related news, I recently saw that Michigan has five, FIVE!, OL who were in the ESPN Top 160 back in 2013.  Assuming Bosch gets the medical redshirt, they'll all be RS Sophomores next year.  It will really be time for some of them to work out.

1. This is the best news relating to the team I've heard in a while. Great to hear that he has dealt with whatever had been affecting him and is ready to get back.

2. If he doesn't get some type of medical redshirt or another way to be credited for this year I will be so mad. He played ONE snap at the end of the App State game.

Bosch is probably one of our 5 best linemen if he can get back on track.

Things always look good 2 years from now, but really/seriously/imeanit, our OL has excellent potential in 2016 for whatever coach/scheme we have.

To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.

The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.

The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.

The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.

All of these must be proven with documentation. That means medical documentation to prove the injury and that it was season-ending and participation information to show that the student-athlete did not play in too many contests.

This documentation is normally pulled together by the compliance office and training room.

The medical documentation needs to show that an athlete was unable to return to competition for the rest of the season. If an athlete is missing appointments, not following the rehab program, or not getting evaluated as scheduled, it is harder for the school to prove the injury was season-ending.

Athletes must keep in mind both the five-year clock and their four seasons of competition. Even if an athlete gets a medical hardship waiver, he or she needs to have time left on their five-year clock to use that season.
