KY QB Zeke Pike Interested in Michigan

Submitted by icefins26 on

Rivals is reporting (behind paywall) that KY QB Zeke Pike has interest in seeing/visiting UM this spring for an unofficial.  Most of the article behind the paywall pertains to Florida State (they just offered) but the end says this:

"I feel like FSU and Michigan are two schools I definitely want to get over and look at," he said. "I will probably take some (unofficial) visits there in the spring, as well as Florida and Miami."

Kid has some impressive offers and can go basically anywhere he wants.

Pike would be a great coup for UM and definitely a sign that this staff is a very good recruitng one.  I still don't think we'll end up getting Pike, but still this is a positive sign that the Michigan brand is still very much intact

I think he's already interested, now it's time to get him to commit.

There are a few QBs that I wouldn't mind seeing go blue. Fact is, even if we have Gardner, it never hurts to have some depth. This guy looks like an absolute stud and it never hurts to have another stud in your stable.

I'm absolutely chuffed that we're on his early list of schools he's interested in though.

WOW...Not too often you see a kid in his junior year at his size move like that. He's athletic, got a rocket for an arm, tough nosed (pile drive blocking 3 guys in 1 play), plays LB and only going to get better.

After seeing this....I WANT THIS KID IN A WINGED HELMET GOSH DAMN IT!!!!

This kids offer sheet is absolutely, stupidly amazing. It's great that he's considering Michigan. Whether he comes here or not, it can't hurt to be in the discussion.

Could you imagine? We would perhaps have the greatest QB depth in the country.

Devin Gardner and Zeke Pike competing to be the starting QB can only mean we win as fans. I doubt he comes but a man can dream!

Kids like pike who are elite recruits (his offers are what I'm basing elite on right now) don't see themselves as back ups and don't shy away from competition. I think he will see denard has one year left and see it as a great opportunity to start soon. When your starter graduates te position isn't automatically the backups.

I'm not sure if I agree with you here.  When there's only one starting spot (like the QB position), I definitely think kids look at the depth chart.  This might not apply to a school that has a steady flow of NFL quarterback talent (like USC, for example) because the kids have a pretty good idea that they'll get a shot at the NFL whenever their time does come.

But you'll often see a team take a stud quarterback . . . then take a mediocre quarterback for a year or two . . . then get another stud quarterback.  There's a reason that Kevin Sousa was the quarterback most interested in playing at Michigan, and not someone like Christian LeMay or Braxton Miller . . .

I think it's a little bit different at, say, running back or wide receiver, because at least two or three guys are going to get significant playing time each game.  But I think most quarterbacks take a long, hard look at the depth chart.

I agree somewhat. I believe we can land an elite qb this year. No one know hows good Gardner will be. I have high hopes for him, but I don't think people look at who's the back up compaired to the number of people back there. Elite talents think they are better then the others usually and they beleive they can beat out the competition whn the current starter leaves. He will only have to sit one year under denard until the qb battle begins again where he could have a legit shot in the new offense.

I feel like he would probably want to go to a school where he can see the field before he is a red shirt junior. But realistically all of those schools he mentioned will be at similar places with their Qbs as they all brought in highly touted qbs.

I think it's going to be another year until our depth chart is suitable enough to entice a blue chip QB. Unless they go through spring practice and decide that Gardner somehow isn't the QB of the future, I think they'll start scouring the country for a 5* 2013 guy.

We need to get this kid on campus this spring.  Michigan's campus probably does a better job at selling to recruits than just about any coach could.  Get him on campus, preferably in spring, and reel in some Pike.
