Kudos to Barwis.... our defense was on the field for 42 minutes and still getting to the QB
Our defense was on the field for 42 minutes and still relentlessly getting after the quarterback at the end of the game. It almost looked like Indiana's offense was the unit getting tired out there..... not our D. This is a team that is in great physical condition and it really showed itself today. Credit goes to our players for busting their arses to get in tip top shape and to Mike Barwis for putting them through the paces.
Most defensive units would have wilted after playing so many minutes. Not our guys.

And Kudos to Barwis for turning Lewan into a double-donkey riding machine.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
I have a feeling that Barwis is going to make Lewan have one rough week due to the extracurriculars at the end.
October 3rd, 2010 at 5:14 AM ^
....as Barwis' additional PAIN this week is going to go into Lewan and directly out onto whomever lines up against him the following Saturday, and whomever is the next in line to be pancaked after that.
It will be a sight to behold, indeed.
October 3rd, 2010 at 9:19 PM ^
that the coaching staff will find ways to teach Lewan without wearing him out before the biggest game of his career protecting our franchise player's blindside! GO BLUE!
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:26 PM ^
I commented in the 4th Q, that their offense being on the field so long, may be actually wearing down a bit. Maybe this is the only way our D can finally stop someone, wear out the O.
Convential wisdom says otherwise, but with Barwis's training this could be the new game plan. Score quick, hope the Dcan stay on the field for 6-8 minutes drives. Opposing O line cramps up and we finally make some stops.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:38 PM ^
Does anyone know what Lewan did at the end of the game?
BTW I was happy to see the rest of the offense self policing Lewan for whatever happened. Showed team unity in a way.
October 3rd, 2010 at 3:00 PM ^
Lewan was nasty all day. He was trash talking everyone, even with the IU fans behind him on the bench. On the last TD, he pancaked the guy then stayed on top of him after the whistle and put his mustache tattoo up to the DLs upper lip. Bad form, Taylor, bad form.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:39 PM ^
we had hardly and pressure all day wtf are you talking about. It was Indiana. they should never, ever have the atlhetes we have.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:57 PM ^
You would think after two years the "We Are Michigan, They Are X, They Shouldn't Even Compete With Us" crap would end.
October 2nd, 2010 at 11:01 PM ^
was pretty obvious that IU had the best receiver on the field. I would trade Stonum, Hemmingway, or Roundtree for Doss and throw in Huyge if they asked. That kid is a beast.
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:18 AM ^
Really? Our wide receivers have played excellently so far this season, they've maybe dropped three or four passes all season. How many TDs did Doss have today? Zero. Our wide receivers made huge plays today.
October 3rd, 2010 at 5:28 AM ^
I would trade Stonum, Hemmingway, or Roundtree for Doss and throw in Huyge if they asked.
Methinks you must be related to Doss in some fashion in order to speak such nonsense.
The only reason Roundtree didn't catch for 300 yards today is because Denard is a contientious quarterback, and knew the other guys that were also as open would get their feelings hurt if he didn't throw to them once in a while too. Denard is nothing if he isn't fair. Spread the ball around, let everyone get a few touches - THE TEAM, THE TEAM, THE TEAM.
Hope Roy gets the #1 jersey next season. I love to watch that kid do his thing. And the Donald Duck impersonation is pretty awesome too. I just know that when Denard sits down on the bench next to him after a TD catch like today, that Roy busts out The Donald on him, and he just laughs his butt off.
These kids are a riot.
October 3rd, 2010 at 4:07 PM ^
Then it's a good thing you're not running the Michigan offense.
October 3rd, 2010 at 6:24 PM ^
to the conversation.
Doss is a great WR, and at this point is further along than any of the Michigan WRs. That doesn't mean they aren't good, just that he is better. He's a more accomplished route runner at this point, and a bigger frame to throw to.
And no, I'm not related to him. Just because I'm a Michigan fan doesn't mean I don't realize that other teams have good players.
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:08 AM ^
think that Indiana should have equal or better athletes then Michigan then all I can say is way to shoot for the stars. We have had a few bad years and all of a sudden it is sacrilege to expect better..what the hell. We are supposed to compete for conference championships at the very least every year. Tell me the last time Indiana expected that, shoot they havent beat us since 87'
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:14 AM ^
Whether they "should" have better players is beside the point. They have a very good QB and WR corps.
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:20 AM ^
They have a 5th yr QB who is good and a couple really good WRs, that however does not make a team
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:11 AM ^
That does, however, make a passing game, which they were gashing us with all day.
Their ground game was nonexistent and I feel like their defense may have been less than nonexistent on most plays. Some kind of nega-existence... where they will Denard onward, or blow at his back to speed him up...
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:16 PM ^
that wearing down the offense is the best strategy, but I like your point.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:18 PM ^
I like that the glass is half full here.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:18 PM ^
Martin looked like a freak on that late sack. Barwis should be proud, can't wait to see what he does to some of our current players over the next couple of seasons.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:20 PM ^
Heck it worked for Ali

Manila. As in the capital city of the Phillippines. Although the fight was actually in Quezon City, just northeast of Manila.
October 3rd, 2010 at 9:27 PM ^
does not rhyme with quezon city! lol we are not rop-a-dopin, we are DRob-a-hopein! GO BLUE!
October 3rd, 2010 at 7:21 AM ^
Rope-a-dope D.
Someone should make a shirt of that or something.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:21 PM ^
However, I don't think any coach is ever going to be thrilled with having such a lopsided TOP.
I love how the offense can score so quickly (most of the time). *Just imagine how many points this offense could score if the defense could get off the field on 3rd and long or 4th and 16 for pete's sake!
* I realize the D made a couple good stops and the O couldn't return the favor.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
However, I don't think any coach is ever going to be thrilled with having such a lopsided TOP.
True, but no coach is going to turn down an offense that can score that quickly.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
Hadn't thought of it, but yeah you're right. The D never gave up and really didn't look that winded. How many plays did IU run?
Go Barwis!!
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:24 PM ^
Indiana ran 98 plays!
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
Kudos to Adam Braithwaite for keeping his promise of making Michigan the best tackling team in the country.

October 2nd, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
Okay, that's not very funny.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:41 PM ^
You're right. Not funny, but all too true. I know I need to stop posting when I'm drunk (last time I got stripped 15K points) but games like that are hard to watch.
Either way, a win is a win. And any team that gives Denard more than 15 seconds at the end of the game is in for a world of hurt. Glad he's on our side. Go Blue.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
Didn't we do that?

I'm confused...
October 2nd, 2010 at 11:00 PM ^
bouje, you've got to be the most cynical member of the site (aside from Magnus, that is). Did you really think our defense played anything other than piss poor today?
October 2nd, 2010 at 11:53 PM ^
How is what I said cynical?

And comparing me to Magnus! Yes please!
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:33 AM ^
I don't think that you know what cynical meansHow is what I said cynical?
So true! I'm reminded of the princess bride - "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." lol...
October 3rd, 2010 at 9:35 PM ^
they most certainly played something other than piss poor. they played ok, not great (maybe not even good) but not poor! i know everybody has a right to thier opinion but being negative beyond what is necessary is, well a drag! our 'D' will hold enough opponents 'o's to less points than we score to have a GOOD record and attract some top recruits! GO BLUE!
October 2nd, 2010 at 11:13 PM ^
If you think the only appropriate response to any win is "Yay" why do you come on a message board after games?
October 3rd, 2010 at 10:47 AM ^
I guess I'm a masochist.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:35 PM ^
Sure, we're missing a few tackles here and there, but it's a vast improvement compared to the last two years. Not giving up nearly as many big (20+ yeard) plays and fewer completely busted assignments. Baby steps.
October 2nd, 2010 at 11:01 PM ^
It's a good thing Kovacs missed the tackle on the last IU touchdown. If they had used additional time to score, we wouldn't have been able to win in regulation. I wonder if GERG dialed that up.
October 2nd, 2010 at 11:07 PM ^
I actually also thought that the defense might have been told to give up a TD if they got the first so the offense had a chance to win it in regulation. It didn't look like a good effort by Kovacs. That seems like a risky strategy though.
October 3rd, 2010 at 3:53 PM ^
The first words out of my mouth after Kovacs flailed at his man were, "They left us with too much time."
When Denard scored with .17 left, I laughed and suggested that he should have taken a knee before that, to get the clock down to about .02. These are like basketball games.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:27 PM ^
It is a absolute shame what they are doing to Martin. He is a god damn monster out there and he is doing it against 2 or 3 guys every play. Just imagine if he had any help next to him. I watch a ton of college football and I have not seen anybody in the country have the deck stacked against them like Martin does and he still rips shit. In previous years he would at least have a serviceable guy next to him like Terrance Taylor or Gabe Watson. They can't just put a body out there next to him to at least keep the o-lines honest? If he does not get All-American it will be a fucking travesty.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:47 PM ^
I truly think Mike Martin is the best defensive player in FBS football. His combination of brute strength and sheer athleticism is unparalleled at this level.
October 2nd, 2010 at 11:04 PM ^
Did you see that Piledriver he put on their QB. If he doesn't make it in the NFL he could be the next UM Pro Wrestling superstar. Remember the Steiners who would come out in their M jackets?
October 3rd, 2010 at 1:02 AM ^
Jibreel can not maturate fast enough...Banks played well before getting hurt.
October 2nd, 2010 at 10:54 PM ^
Obviously the 3-3-5 is not working almost all of the time. Why don't they just rush 4 every damn time? We'll give up a huge gain if we only rush 3 anyway, at least a lot of the time they rushed 4 the pressure worked...
October 2nd, 2010 at 11:13 PM ^
What are they going to do to stop the MSU's, Badger's and Buckeye's? I have said the main reason they use the 3-3-5 is for the Offense to practice against. I don't have the time to rant on why the D will always be treated as the ugly step child by RR.
