Kris Frost: Silent Commit?

Submitted by Logan88 on

I just finished listening to Sam Webb's "Recruiting Roundup" on WTKA.com and he mentioned that there are a couple of kids who are silent commits to UM for the 2011 class.

Sam then received a call from "Mark from Novi" asking about the situation with Frost and Lyons. Sam's response regarding Frost was (paraphrased): "Michigan leads...BIG TIME." Sounds like Frost is a silent commit to me. Let's just hope he "sees the light" and realizes that he (and UM) will be best served playing OLB rather than WR.

Btw, while Sam's assessment of the situation with Lyons was not quite as promising (e.g. doesn't sound like a silent), he still expressed cautious optimism regarding Lyons due to 1) UM's academics and 2) Blake Countess's efforts to recruit Lyons to UM.

While I agree that Frost would be more beneficial at LB, I'm sure the coaches will still allow him to try out at WR and go from there. Either way, Frost is one guy I would love to have in this class. I think he will be a stud either way.

As far as Lyons, I hope he commits too. He seems like a future stud too. This class will round out to be pretty nice when all is said and done.

review of the Shrine bowl (NC vs. SC HS all star game) Frost is beginning to see the light.  He was a standout at OLB and is beginning to believe his future is on that side of the ball.  There was also mention of Bryant and Zettel on the GBW hour on Sunday.  It appears both are waiting to hear about the coaching situation.  That's three Rivals 4 stars with two of them being in top 100 for you star watchers.

I'm not sure if you mean he's enjoying the linebacker position by "seeing the light", but if so, then yes, I heard the same thing. Mike Farrell of Rivals mentioned how Frost was really beginning to appreciate the subtle nuances of playing the position, and really get comfortable with his role on D.

...it's sad that, as a result, he'll be reduced to a 3-star recruit. Nevertheless, Go Blue! (And to Kris Frost:  You couldn't have made a wiser decision.)

but is it possible that he can train at both positions and when going against other D-1 atheletes, maybe he will see that he will be much better served at LB than WR. I think he may be a good WR in HS, but not sure how well he will be at the college level and maybe he will see that it will be harder to see time at WR than LB with his speed and body type (I don't know if he will be fast enough to be a playmaking WR; I also think he will fill out more in college which probably won't help his speed/quickness at the WR spot).

Yeah, it would be an extremely rare position pairing.  Almost as ridiculous as an offensive guard doubling as a kick returner.   Wait a minute...

Anyway, one of the more impressive position switches was that kid from Virginia Tech several years ago.  I'm completely blanking on his name.  I want to say it was Ed Wilfolk or something like that, but anyway, he went to Virginia Tech as a defensive end, switched to wide receiver, and then got drafted by the Jaguars.

on this board in good standing, though lately it sounds as if he has resigned himself to a coaching change.

I wonder what his record is for being the first caller up in the recruiting roundup.  Since he generally ask pertainant questions,  I'm not complaining.

Man, I love me some Blake Countess.  The kid just committed last week, doesn't matter to him if there is a CC, and is recuriting people for us.

LB prospects maybe developing (Furman, Mike Jones, etc) in addition to having Morgan a true LB prospect in the class, that would give Michigan coaches the luxury of letting Frost get some reps in at WR in Fall to satiate his desire and then when he sees he's not where near the depth chart on WR, he can "ask" for a switch to LB in time to go through spring practice '11 and be a contributor for the 2012 season.

I'm more interested in where Zettel actually ends up, as in side of the ball.

can play where ever he wants.  Yes, I would love him at LB, but with Convway out, we need a big receiver too.  If he doesn't make the grade, go to D.  Either way, it is a win-win for us.

Thank you sir.

Also, Farrell this morning spoke about Dee always wanting to go to Florida, but never receiving an offer. He finally got one, and it seems as if Florida is in the lead for both him and HaHa.

Also, my understanding of Farrell this morning was that Frost falling in love with playing LB this past week put Auburn in better position for him. Now, Sam having us with a big lead is comforting, but let's not forget what happened to us with Sean Parker last year and the apparent silent commit we had with him. Just managing our expectations.

He also said that Harbaugh, should he come here, would lose some current commits, but said that it would be a recruiting bonanza for us since Farrell said that Harbaugh is among the best recruiters in the country and would put us in prime position for some big time prospects across the country.

It's definitely getting interesting. Just want signing day to come and we can stop speculating and start welcoming the latest and greatest class to Michigan.

How? Michigan's not recruiting him to play WR, we're just giving him the option (as is Auburn). I don't see how that would swing him towards Auburn.

He was being recruited as an athlete. The coaches know as well as anyone that he's best suited for the defensive side of the ball, and that's where they'll ultimately want him. However, one of the important factors in his recruitment was having the opportunity to play WR at the next level, which the coaches gave him. He's not, and has never really been, recruited just to play WR

but maybe that is why he is silent. ex: "Hi coach, I wanted you to know that I am committed to coming to play for you, but if you get the axe, I am heading elsewhere. So for now, let's just keep this commitment between us."

Again, I don't know but this could be what is going on.
