Kovacs Story

Submitted by Hoke_Floats on

This is a nice piece on Kovacs

but it is in the Freep

“Every now and then,” he said. “It is weird, because I just think of myself as another guy. I don’t really understand why people want my autograph.”

A great story, even though it's from Freep. Kovacs is a hard worker and one of my favorite players to watch on this team. He may not be the fastest or strongest, but he is not afraid to put his nose in there and make a play.

How can you not root for this kid?  From walk-on to one of the leaders on defense.  Thanks for posting the article.

Lets hope that for every 4-star transfer, we get 2 Jordan Kovacs.

I hope Kovacs goes down as a kind of mythical michigan man

Someone who RR points to when he discusses walk-ons chances as well as what it means to work hard

I may be still high form all the glue I sniffed when UofM went down 17-7 to UMass, but....

As much hype as D-Rob gets, and its all deserved, I really think that Kovacs is the best example of player development during this era

I know we all still hate the freep, but I would think rewarding a struggling local paper with ad revenue when they write stories that aren't journalistic garbage is probably a good idea.

I agree. And I will take it a step further - I think the ethics of basically taking their material and generating revenue here (i.e., clicks for MGoBlog), without giving anything in return, are quite questionable. Every thread about freep-generated material owes something to the freep - at least a reasonable number of clicks.  I like this blog, I like a lot of Brian's analyses, but I can't get beyond his quite questionable ethical stance of just taking and taking from the freep. Yes, the freep has questionable ethics themselves, but taking an unethical approach to dealing with them makes you no better.

football.  Sometimes there's both.  Either is sufficient to play the game.  The latter is necessary to succeed.  If there was someone better than Jordan they would play.

Kovacs has earned everything he has.   An apple doesn't fall far from the tree either.  Forcier's dad and Roh's dad have a strong presence... even on this site.  That Lou is behind the scenes (an M Club member I'm sure) speaks volumes for Jordans accomplishments and his upbringing.  What Michigan fan couldn't be proud of him?

Vinopal is a scholarship player I know but...his clips make me think he loves football as well.  These are the kinds of players who make up a team.  Not everyone can have DRob speed - but it takes 11...

everyone on the D is guilty of a missed tackle, a bad read, getting beat, etc.  Kovacs has made a lot of plays for us though, and is going to make many more.  Even as a walk-on, I'm not convinced anyone will unseat him as a starter until ge graduates.

A very fun story - it is great to see his hard work be rewarded.  I actually wouldn't be surprised to see him as an All Big-10 second teamer-type by the time he leaves.  A great story, and one that may inspire other walk-ons to give the team a chance (looking at you, former HS soccer star-turned-kicking prospect).

Great story - another legend in the making.  There's a lot to be said for guys without a sense of entitlement.  Rather have Kovacs back there than a 5-star who doesn't think he has to work at it.

Seriously, that part where Rich Rod hugged him and ordered him to sign that scholarship made me tear up just a bit.

And does anyone else find it surreal that Kovacs was, at one time, one of those kids chasing down the players. Now he IS one of those players. I bet one day, one of those kids chasing Kovacs down, will be a Wolverine himself.

men like Jordan will come around to the program with his intregrity and drive.  Here's to hoping they have more physical abilities though.  Meshing the humble approach of both Jordan and DRob and there drive to win with the physical abilities will make for a nice comeback for the M fotball program!  GO BLUE
