Kirk Herbstreit comment on GameDay

Submitted by FireJimDelaneyNow on

I heard Kirk Herbstreit, refer to the University of Michigan as the "wolves" on GameDay last weekend.  For the life of me I have never referred or heard anyone refer to the wolverines as the "wolves."  I know this guy is a egomaniac, but has anyone ever heard the wolverines referred to as "wolves"?

The Big Chill was directed by Michigan alum Lawrence Kasdan. Its IMDB page states: "The characters were based on people Lawrence Kasdan lived with in the Eugene V. Debs co-op in Ann Arbor, MI, while attending the University of Michigan. Co-ops are co-ed housing in which the residents share household duties like cooking. This explains why the characters are so comfortable sharing the house and cooking, and are so attached to the Michigan football game."

so, for that mistake to be in that movie with that director is surprising. I'd bet it was a fumble/ ad lib by the actors.

Big House, one of our primary colors is Blue, chants about Go Blue, football players tend to be big, we play in big games...I can see where those two words get thrown around a lot around the Michigan team and sometimes casual fans accidentally use them in consecutive order as a term of endearment. I know it is frowned upon and I avoid it, but it doesn't really bug me when I hear it. The same goes for "wolves" as an abbreviation for the Wolverines. As long as we are winning, you can call us whatever you like.

No, but it was just a quick moment of trying to be casual as sports commentators do. Probably meant Wolvs' short for wolverines not Wolves as in wolf. Also some posters on here have Wolv in their names.

just tell him that the Dearborn campus takes in students with the same median ACT scores as MSU but those students then get to use campus research and library facilities in Ann Arbor for a fraction of the cost of attending Staeeee and see if he still feels like a genius.

Poor guy got run out of town for not being a big enough homer while speaking about the team he undoubtably loves in a professional tone with a level head. Ya know, like a real analyst.... which is quite unlike Robert Smith who should be fired immediately.

I used to work with a guy that went to Upper Arlington high school in Columbus, where a lot of OSU alums settle after college. He played for their football team and was part of a large group of guys with connections to the Buckeye program. He had a few too many beers one evening after work and started running his mouth about how part of the reason Kirk left town had to do with some buddies of his harrassing Herbstreit's wife. Multiple times. Great bunch of fans...

Oh, how I hate Ohio State.
