Thanks. I'll check it out.  Man we had some great teams in the mid to late-80s. Pre-fab five.  Tarpley, Butch Wade, Grant, Relford, Rice, Rumeal, Higgins.

Fun style of play.

Or something.  I would be curious if someone has.

Family relationships can be tangled messes that outsiders struggle to get.  I hope there is more to the story for Robinson's sake.

Either way, the lack of heart towards another person who cared for him so much is sad.

Plus the failure to man up and acknowledge his failure here.   If anyone has seen any other articles on this, please post them.  I'll do the same.

My eyes are not what they used to be--too many hours staring at computer--but it looks like blood is spurting profusely from your avatar's eye sockets.   Based on your MGoName I wonder if you were going for a "laser" vibe (air quotes optional).  If so, you might want to take a fresh look.  Otherwise, carry on.  That is all.

Well, if the way people treated Chris Webber in the aftermath of the timeout (long before anyone knew anything about Ed Martin) is any indication, fans would be bummed but still sympathize with him.  I don't think he'd have been vilified.  It'd just be one of those, "Damn it, I love the guy but why couldn't he make those free throws?" kind of things.

Without knowing more facts, it is hard to tell whether he is a criminal or just a very bad business man -  guy who let his ego get out of control but maybe a guy who actually had good intentions when he started out but got in over his head.

Again, I say that based upon the ESPN segment - meaning, without more facts.

The fact that he actually flew down to Jamaica a number of times shows that he had some type of "intent" to create the vacation resort.     And then his business partner ran out of money.   And his partner was supposed to be the guy with the "deep pockets" on the deal.   Thus, that left Rumeal holding the bag sort of speak.

There can be little excuse for the strip club charges and a few of the other exhorbitant purchases however.

And one thing is clear, the guy is a selfish jerk.    There is no excuse for him to treat his mother the way he did.

during the championship game and she was cheering her heart out.  They talked about his upbringing during that final four and it was touching back then.  To answer a previous poster's questions:

Q: What if he misses the free throws?

A: She loves him even harder.

PS. Remember, it was 1 and 1 back in the day, so there was a lot of pressure on that first shot.

I met Rumeal Robinson about 1.5 years ago.  He is a high school friend of a professional acquaintance, who arranged for the three of us to have lunch.  Rumeal was very well spoken, spoke highly of U of M, and signed my SIs from the 1989 championship run and a photograph of the game winning FT for my then 2 year old son.  He didn't ask for anything from me, but of course I bought his lunch.  While we were at lunch, he received a phone call and explained to the caller that he was having lunch with me because I was a big Michigan fan.  I came away pretty impressed in many ways.  However, there was an undercurrent of the stories he told, consistent with some statements he made to the Detroit papers in connection with the 20th anniversary of the national championship, that suggested he might have received some sort of unsanctioned benefits while playing at M.  Shortly thereafter, I learned about the federal indictment against him, and it made that undercurrent stand out more for me.  This is all very sad, for Rumeal, his victims, and us fans.

Can ESPN stop fucking up my childhood memories please?????????

Impoverished youth gets spotlight, money etc. becomes jackass. Rinse, repeat.

Someone should pull video of the fans behind the backboard to see if Satan was sitting there with a UM jersey during Rumeals free throws.
