Kinard still trying to get to Michigan

Submitted by StephenRKass on

Rivals has a teaser headline on Antonio Kinard working to get back to Michigan. That's great news. It sure doesn't seem like the recruits are as stirred up as the fanbase (about RR & the current season.)

While I know that recruits read some of the boards, I haven't yet seen any fallout from the season in terms of recruiting.

I'm curious why Kinard isn't listed in the 2011 Recruiting Board. Regardless, I don't think we can have too many linebackers, and would be thrilled to see him as part of the incoming class.

...on course, but until he enrolls and stays beyond the first 7 days or whatever it is, he like any recruit is tentative.

Assume nothing and your levels of happiness and disappointment will adjust accordingly. It's the sane approach and has the added benefit of cutting down on garment rending, hair pulling, teeth gnashing and breast beating MGoBoard threads.

He apparently went the post grad route and then after a couple of weeks just quit. I wouldn't expect him to be a part of this class

Edit: There was a rumor that the reason he did that was because he just needed to raise his test scores as opposed to adding points to his gpa and finishing some classes

So he knows how to block and his highlight videos show a couple of long touchdown runs.  He also had a pick six in the Big 33 all star game, so the kid can run and has TE size potential, but all indications have been that he is slated to start at one of the ILB spots or possibly Quick End (if we still utilize that position).  Most of his video is at Inside linebacker which is certainly a position where we could use some depth, and a year of prep school football plus Jan. enrollment will make him more ready to play than a typical freshman. Here's hoping he qualifies.

Yeah, it sounds like LB is his best, position, it's just nice to have kids who can move around if you need him to.  If we sign 3 or 4 LBs in this class and we don't get a TE, or decide we want more than one TE, he would be a good guy to move.

He's probably not going to play much right off the bat anyway, so let him bulk up and see where everything sorts out.

But what does Kinard think about RR? Does Kinard want him to stay or is Kinard hoping for Harbaugh? Whew.....now the thread fits in with every other thread this week. I was afraid for a second it would be about something different and we all KNOW that's not allowed.

I am a RR supporter, but I think the idea that a coaching change would hurt recruiting is overblown. An argument can be made that, if the right replacement is chosen, a coaching change could enhance recruiting.

Some recruits appear to be holding back due to uncertainty about RR's future. If RR is replaced, the new coach likely would have 3-4 years minimum. In contrast, if RR is retained for another year, he could underperform and be fired a year from now. Any recruit concerned about a change in the "system" is far less likely to have that happen if a new coach is brought in this year than if RR is given a fourth year to prove he can win in the B10.

Of course, this all goes out the window if we go through another 2007 coaching search and/or whoever we hire is not a home run (at least perception-wise). If Brandon fires RR and replaces him with Brady Hoke on January 10, bye-bye recruiting class. On the other hand, if he fires RR and hires Harbaugh on January 3, most recruits should not be impacted and a few (especially the defensive ones) might see it as a positive. Maybe we lose a slot receiver or dual threat QB but Harbaugh has proven he can recruit and he could use that scholly to get a defensive lineman or pro-style QB or wide receiver. Harbaugh might be a dick, but he is a very good recruiter.

So you agree we should see serious posts questioning our coaching situation in every thread on the board then? I am thinking about going into the ACC/Big ten challenge open thread and wondering aloud how basketball recruits would like to play under Jim Harbaugh.

i thought Kinard was a good  backer prospect coming out of Liberty. I am really rooting for this kid to make it to Mich this January! We need all the help we can get on D!

im a little confused why people are makeing light of all the coaching posts. whatever happens will change the course of history for michigan football. I think it deserves all the attention, ie posts. Granted they can be repetitive but when an OP comes with something new, dont knock it.

Dorsey?  Not sure if there has been any board updates about him or not, but last I heard he didn't make it in to Louisville either.  Any idea where he has landed?  Perhaps a JC college to improve the grades and make the jump to us?

Edit: NM: did my own search and found on a TSN article that: "Highly touted defensive back Demar Dorsey was denied admission this year and as of Monday night, the former Lauderdale Lakes (Fla.) High School star was not playing football or taking classes anywhere."

Fail.

It's so sad to hear that. Here's a kid with unbelievable talent, who had a chance for a free education and a shot at being drafted someday and it seems like he's throwing it away.

Also, I hope Dorsey does what he needs to do with the NCAA and comes to Michigan eventually. With Louisville denying him admission as well, it doesn't seem like M-Admissions did anything other than what every other school would have done.

Well, actually that isn't true. Auburn anyone?

Couldn't believe it when I read it.  At least get your butt in a JC someplace.  In some ways I wish he would have come to Michigan, but with the lack of motivation being shown...kind of glad he didn't....could've ended badly.

Nice Zing on Auburn by the way. Hilarious.
