Kim Barnes Arico signs 3 year extension

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

The winningest coach in Michigan Women's Basketball history percentage-wise has signed a contract extension.

KBA signed a 3-year extension today on her existing contract that now goes through the 2020-21 season.

Wonder if she was being pursued by other schools as she had years on her existing contract still left.

Barnes Arico is 62-40 here which ranks 5th all-time in wins among Michigan head coaches. Her .608 win percentage is the highest ever. Michigan has made the postseason every year she has been here.

Her .500 conference record is one percentage point shy of being the highest B1G winning percentage of any Michigan WBB head coach ever.

That story makes little sense given that Borseth took Michigan to the NCAA tourney that season, for the first time during his tenure. And reports at the time were that Michigan and Borseth were working on a three-year contract extension.

From what I've heard, Borseth didn't like the pressure that came with being a head coach at Michigan and jumped at the opportunity when his old job suddenly came open.

Take it FWIW, but Borseth and his wife are friends of a close relative and he 100% believes Borseth was forced out, and that Brandon was both dishonest and incompetent with regards to the whole thing.

That's the opinion of one of their friends, but some of the things I've been told are verifiable and point in that direction.

She had three years left on her previous contract. You don't want her contract dwindling down to any less than that, or it could easily start affecting recruiting. This is simply a well-deserved and slightly overdue extension; there aren't any jobs out there right now that she would be interested in.

I'm glad to hear about this.  The 2015-16 freshman class is full of blue chip recruits so there should be some exciting things to come for Coach KBA and WBB.  I think the coach likes being here.  She has a young family and she has said in interviews that things work better here for her family life than they did at St. Johns.
