Braylon 5 Hour…

Gottlieb thought we should have been amongst the last 4 teams in, and not an 8 seed, and he thinks us beating Tennessee doesn't change that.  Whatever, who cares, we won, onto Duke.

I really didn't need any more reasons not 2 like Doug Gottlieb but he never ceases 2 amaze me with the bullshit that comes out his mouth. Hell if his resume didn't pop up on the screen when he starts talking on ESPN I wouldn't even know he actually played the game!

Wow and I thought I couldn't stand the guy before that completely irrelevant and uneccessary tweet. This just takes it to a whole nether level of absolute disgust and repulsion for me, what a tool!! Who else deserved to get in ahead of us? I really hope he has a follow-up to justify his outlandish ignorance!!!

Typically, whe we ask whether someone made a smart decision, we can translate it as whether if we used the same rules whether we'd reach better outcomes than using a different rule over time.  So, buying a lottery ticket when the expected value is less than the cost isn't a smart decision (ignoring the legitimate points made earlier about the fantasy value that the ticket gives you before the numbers are drawn).  That's true even if you happen to win.

I don't see how you can judge whether any particular decision was smart by looking at the results alone.  Under the criteria described above, you do need a detailed knowledge of the information set, probabilities, etc.  But, if you ask the question whether a person is a good decision maker or not, you can use results.  You just need to use a set of results.  In making this judgment it would be helpful to understand the ex-ante distribution of outcomes unless your sample is very large or the probabilities aren't terribly skewed.  (That means if someone is making a bunch of 50-50 guesses, you can observe a relatively small sample to judge whether the person is getting it right.  If the person is making a bunch of decisions where the probability is small (call it p) and the net payoff is X and you're asking whether pX > 0, then you'll need a bigger sample.)

Good lord.  I'm guessing he thinks we were seeded too high, which, duh, we were projected by EVERYONE as a 9-11 seed.  Then he probably gets a million tweets rubbing his nose in one wrong pick.  So he rightly points out that beating a floundering tennessee team by 30 doesnt really prove we should have been an 8.  Nothing to see here.

I'm sure the tweet is a little out of context, but I never understand why anyone at a professional publication/entity finds the need to respond to largely-anonymous messages in such a way.  Just let it go.

Gottlieb just tweeted:"Michigan fans have now vaulted into the lead as most annoying. Never said UM did not belong, but 30 pt win over UT, does not prove worthy."

Uh... yeah, you did.  Let's recall what you said THREE HOURS earlier:

"easy michigan fans, results do not indicate whether or not u belong"

If there is a way to read that to say anything other than "Michigan may have won, but still didn't belong," I'd love to hear it.

So basically fans that disagree with him or call him out for stupid things he says are on his "annoying list?"

This should probably be an honor...
