Per twitter. Surprising because most had him to Duke with Florida as the trendy pick recently.

and makes me want to ask an only slightly off-topic question.  Steve Alford perplexes me.  He seems like a good coach.  Why did he struggle at Iowa?  Is he a bad recruiter?  If that is a weakness, will the UCLA name (and resources) mask that weakness and allow him to be successful there?

I loved the guy as a player. As a coach, not so much. He's good enough to win in the Mountain West, but he couldn't win consistently at Iowa. The Pac 12 will be a step up. Then there's all the off-the-court stuff in Iowa City. I breathed a sigh of relief when IU didn't pick him up.

But he's a likely one-and-done.  If Alford is trying to rebuild UCLA, he's going to need a bunch of good solid players who will stay for their full 4 years of eligibility.  I think Beilein is doing it the right way by building the Michigan program with  a good mix of top players who may leave early, along with the 4 year guys.  If we can get two years out of some of these players, that's not bad.  It's much better than just one year.

Bo Ryan has done a terrible job of keeping quality talent at home for a while now.  Ever since Maurice "Boo" Wade got in trouble its like he decided to stop recruiting the Milwaukee area entirely.
