Not sure what's worse. The Kent State players returning it the wrong way, or all of Towson actually trying to chase him down to prevent him from getting the safety

Epic would have been his own teammates having to tackle him to prevent the safety.

KSU guy on the 10, high stepping and starting to prematurely celebrate a bit and one of his teammates spears him.  I would have lost at least two internal organs due to laughing.

The return man attempted to get out of the way of the ball but then tried to catch it off the hop and fumbled, the Towson players tackled Parker instead of letting him run for a safety, and a few Kent State players threw some blocks on the "return". And it was a pretty impressive return even if it was the wrong way.

1. This is not football at a high level.

2. The instinct to tackle the guy with the ball overshadows any nagging thoughts like "Wait, WTF?"  The kids were probably thinking it was the wrong way, but none of them wanted to be the one to stop pursuing, especially since everyone else on the field was playing as usual.  Herd mentality is actually a pretty cool thing.

A high school player with even one MAC offer is in the top what, one percent, of football players nationwide? Even that might be a little on the generous side. This is definitely high level football, even if KSU isn't super elite like the bigger conference schools.

I was actually talking this evening about how I was glad DI hockey wasn't an option for me. I was ripping on a certain softball coach yet again and realized what life would be like in a high level hockey program (and how little chance I would have to get tons of ice time). Forty hours a week plus classes spanning two semesters doesn't sound that appealing at this point.

Of course, to high school justingoblue that might be a different story.

can fuel efforts that may seem impossible to a more jaded older adult.

For college chess, my options were basically UTD (no), Chicago (possible), or Maryland. There are some other teams but those are the biggest three teams. We talked about setting up matches with other schools at the Michigan chess club but I never participated in a match.

has no engineering school. This is the essay prompt I responded to:

The University of Chicago has a venerable tradition of seminar-based learning, in which students and professors gather around the classroom table to discuss ideas. Less venerable, but no less valuable, is our tradition of conversation around another table–the dinner table. Indeed, on any given night you will find members of our student community breaking bread together, discussing everything from The Symposium to The Simpsons. We in the admissions office would argue that a community can be defined by its table—by its shape, by who finds a seat there, by what transpires there, by what is inspired there. Tell us about your table.

Still one of my favorite writing pieces I've done, even though a Buckeye made a paragraph long appearance (to be fair she wasn't all scarlet and grey at the time this was written, there was some good left in her, ala Return of the Jedi).

Sorry to be the one to say this, but the refs ended up making the correct call:  Kent State ball at the spot of the fumble recovery (the Towson 7 yard line), first and goal.  None of that wrong-way return actually happened.

The punt was not fumbled; it was muffed.  A muffed kick can not be advanced if it is recovered by the kicking team.
