Kenny Kaminski leaving MSU

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on
Per Kenny Kaminski's Twitter account, he's leaving MSU. Some rumors floating around that it's related to academics.

Will hurt their depth and outside shooting (which is sorely needed) for 2015. More importantly, it'll hurt Izzo's lineup options since it'll force Dawson to play the 4 almost exclusively. I doubt Izzo can trot out Costello and Schilling at the same time, with Dawson at the 3, due to their limited range.

A lot people are going to tell you to not to use drugs. However, when you have really good drugs, or lots of drugs, you don't need those people. Pack the bowl good tonite, we don't have to worry about bball practice tomorrow.

....in an article right here (LINK).

I don't know if this was specifically highlighted here - it may have been - but the article does mention this bit of less-than-smooth history:

"On two separate occasions last season, Kaminski was suspended by Izzo for “failing to take care of business” academically, with the second suspension being levied on December 14. Kaminski missed a total of six games last season for disciplinary reasons."

If that's the case, it might very well be academics. It is hard to imagine that being anything else, phrased as is.

Was a tutor there and tutored Mateen Cleaves.  Not that this comes as a surprise to any of you here but even she was the first to admit the dude was dumber than a box of rocks.

He seemed like he was the poster child for being weird.

I had a cousin that went to Michigan and was also a tutor for some of the basketball players over the last 2 years. She would tell me some stories and lets just say some of the players on Michigan are not the brightest either. I won't say who she had tutored and who she had mentioned just to be courteous of the players though.

Doesn't msu have 1 scholly for 2015 ? I know they want swanigan and they think they have a good chance at Brunson. Has izzo resorted to forcing kids out ? Maybe.

Brunson wouldn't do them much good in the short term since MSU needs a 4, not more short guards. Swanigan would be a huge get but still doesn't help for the coming season since he's a 2015. They need Marvin Clark or Goins to come in and play like Nigel Hayes did for Wisky.

This is very unfortunate for MSU because this is one less player to lament about injuries over by Izzo.  He is really going to have to step up his game.

On a more serious note - he was basically their version if Irvin last year; do nothing but take outside shots and its a blow since I think he would have been their 6th man behind Dawson at 4 and maybe a little Valentine at 3 as well.    But depends on their hardship waiver thing.  Wont be a big issue in 2015 as they get some shooting coming in with Eron Harris, and some of their other recruits from this year and next can take the role but for 2014-2015 it hurts.

The worst (on paper) Izzo coached MSU team just got worse. New Izzo press conference drinking game:
Every time he blames an official
Throws a player under the bus
Sobs uncontrollably
Talks about how this team "lacks toughness"
Simulates a difficult bowel movement
Talks about how these young kids just don't understand like J-Rich and Mateen(as if any of these kids know who he is talking about)
We all drink. Better clean the toilet seat first just to be safe.

Must have been pretty bad to kick him off.  They are very thin down low and already lost Gauna.

We'll probably never know what happened  (Bullough) But you have to applaud coaches who set boundaries.

This year for MSU will be a lot like UM last year - a very young team with some key losses (Burke, THJ ... Payne, Harris).   Throw in the loss of Mitch for the Big 10 and I guess that would be equivalent to Appling graduating so 3 major losses for both teams.

One coach brushed it off, won the Big 10 by 3, and was a shot away from the FF.  The other will be worshiped in 9 months for bringing together a bunch of weird guys and showing them heart, courage, and the American way when they come in 6th place in the conference.  And move up in the ESPN coaches ranking to #2 overall based on it.

Izzo has been very blessed with very experienced teams for much of the past 10-12 years as he lost almost no one to early entry so this is going to be a stark change for him.  He still has 3 key upperclassmen but it's going to be a team much like the rest of college basketball that actually relies on freshmen at multiiple spots.  Expect much head exploding.
