Kelvin Grady throws his support behind RR

Submitted by shorts on

I'm not sure if this came from the press conference, but it wasn't in the player presser notes and I thought it would be of interest.

This is from the AP story (Larry Lage) on all the predictable criticism of RichRod:

"Coach Rod is building something special right now," Grady said. "At the beginning of the season, we weren't on anybody's radar and no one was talking about us. We started 5-0 and shocked the world. Now, we lost a game and people want to talk.
"Those people should find another ballclub to root for because we're going to follow coach Rod because he's going to take us where we want to be."

Of course he is going to support the program, he is a player currently playing for us.  Can you imagine if he didnt.  Thats being part of THE TEAM.

Those who stay will become Champions!

Saw it, and agree with # 1& 2 but not 3.  How is that any less fundamental to building a team today than it has been in the past.  In fact one could argue, that many of our defensive issues are caused by players that chose not to observe #3. Kelvin could cower when things get down and transfer or he could stand his ground and defend the program.

I still believe in the ‘those that stay’ statement even though I may be a minority.

If Tressel would've experienced the same turnover at OSU, he would be in the same boat.  You think Krenzel and Clarrett go to the Fiesta Bowl if Chris Gamble would've transferred?  Or how about losing multiple players on their two-deep to other schools or the NFL?

If Tressel had all those defections, Miami would've won the title that the refs stole from them, Lloyd keeps beating OSU and keeps all the detractors off of him, and the list could go on and on.  Their players stayed and look at what they built.

Maybe I should have used a different title -- I thought it was more interesting that he wasn't just defending the loss but really calling people out who aren't supportive of Rodriguez, because he can see first-hand exactly what's going on and how successful the players truly believe they can be once the wrinkles are ironed out.

... did Grady ever have something similar to say about Beilein?  Just curious if anybody knows, because I think it is more meaningful if it was a one time thing.

I know the two situations are different, but just curious about how vocally supportive he is in general vs actually saying something that he really means.

Grady's comment, Denard's post-game reaction, etc.  Surely the guys understand the situation.  It is unfortunate that the pressure is so soon to come this year. While it it possible that all the RR background talk can make the team play tight, I think it becomes a rallying point.  This is a coaching challenge but I think it goes in the right direction.  An Iowa win and the roller coaster goes way up.

It does suck that they have to say it.  But I'll bet that kind of support from the players is just what Brandon is looking for, and I'm pretty sure RR likes to hear it.

Also, I like the use of the phrase "building something special."  I think everybody knows RR wasn't brought in to continue status quo.  This team isn't as bad as it looked to the naysayers on Saturday.  Basically, the offense is on a de facto over/under bet of 39 points.  If the offense wins the bet, Michigan wins the game.  If they lose, Michigan loses.  That is probably how it will be the rest of the year, except against a couple of teams with amemic offenses.

It's a great start to bringing Michigan into the modern era of football.  I'm willing to put up with the growing pains.

Last year is an angry monkey that has taken up residence on the players backs with this weekends loss.  It would be nice if they didn't have to deal with this kind of pressure this early in the season, but this is the way things are and unfortunately will be until they win another game.

Yeah, I like this one.

"Those people should find another ballclub to root for because we're going to follow coach Rod because he's going to take us where we want to be."

I've been saying the same thing since 2008. People tend to forget that this team was only expected to get to 7-5 maybe 8-4 at best. But since we go 5-0 everyone thinks we are going 12-0. Seriously?! I still see us going 8-4 and getting a good bowl game. And it sets us up pretty nicely for 2011. I've said for a long time that 2011 and 2012 will be very special years to be a Michigan Wolverine!!

I didn't catch these comments in the press conference, thanks for sharing.

The remainder of the season is going to be a dogfight, week to week.  I'm done trying to guess what the record's going to be, I'm just pulling for this team like mad.

I was really impressed with Kelvin's hands and strength on that 4th down catch.  He showed me a lot in that one play.  Very similar to Odoms catching passes over the middle against ND and clapping as soon as he was hit hard.  Kelvin's stock is on the rise!
