Kearney to MSU

Submitted by Smitty D on
This blows he was considered a Michigan lean. He grew up a MICHigan fan. Two cousins went there. Geez little surprised we didn't lock him up According to Kearney the Wolverines and Buckeyes both made the decision really hard. "Michigan really made it hard. Ohio State made it fairly hard, but Michigan made it really hard. I grew up liking them and I had two cousins that went there, so they made it really hard."

Once we picked up Carlton Brundidge, Kearney appeared to be the odd man out. We have a scholarship crunch in 2011. Only one left to give, and it needs to be a big. Anyway, yeah, I was hoping for him to come to Michigan all summer...but it seems like Brandan waited too long and lost his shot.

I definitely like that idea, although I think that Kearney is the better player between him and Brundidge. Brundidge has no other real scholarship offers besides the Wolverines, whereas Kearney definitely does. Also, Kearney is 5 inches taller than Brundidge, while playing the same position. FURTHERMORE, it seems as though Kearney is more recognized having played on the same USA team as Zeigler and McCallum. It just seems like one of those situations where we got a commitment and had to tell the better player no b/c we weren't going to just take the scholarship away from the other kid. Just like when Hardaway committed. That kind of turned Zeigler off for a while, but Beilein wasn't going to tell Hardaway no.

Thinks Brundidge is the best 2011 in the state. It's not like he's a chump. All three services have him in the top 100. He's about equally hyped to Kearney, I'd say. I do agree Kearney is a better 'fit' guy. He might be a better all-around player and his length would make him an ideal Beilein point. But Brundidge can flat out score. We've seen how good Manny can be scoring and distributing by being a slasher. I think Brundidge could be like a shorter Manny. Everyone raves about his ability to get to the hoop.

It's sad to see Kearney go elsewhere. But as mentioned above, with Brundidge on board, Zeigler deciding in the Spring, and the need for (and likelihood of getting) a quality big next year, there probably wasn't room for him. How nice is it to have a basketball program that faces this kind of problem?
