Karlos Williams - Now A "Soft Verbal" With M & USC In Top 3

Submitted by Matt EM on

Front page of Scout has a premium article regarding Karlos Williams scheduling a visit. After glancing at his player profile it appears he's visiting USC in Jan., and has FSU, Michigan, & USC as his top 3. Would be huge to get this kid on campus. We need either Haha or Karlos in a major way.

"Setting his status" makes it sound like something changed with him. It didn't, the writers at scout just decided that they don't think he's as strong with FSU if he's taking visits elsewhere. I'd love to get both of them, our secondary would received an out-of-this-world boost, but I don't see it happening. If anyone has premium at Scout, I think they can understand me. Throughout the whole article, he refers to FSU as "we" and almost sounds like he's been playing there for years. He talks about how they're the big brother in Florida now, how they got a couple of commits from the Miami game, and how united he is with the new coaching staff. I'd put HaHa at 10% chance of going blue, and Williams at about 2%

From what I've seen on scout.com I agree that going after him is likely a waste of time.  Truthfully, I just hope the coaching staff is going after Avery Walls and Wayne Lyons at least twice as hard as they are going after Karlos.  We need to land some safety talent that can contribute in a hurry.

This dude is a Strait baller . If michigan can land him that would be Huge . I'll be crossing my fingers for this one . It really means something for the future of Michigan that all these players are taking a second look . If we win 8+ games this year our recruiting class next year and even this year will turn out to be very Amaizen

the Grammar Nazees show up...you two had nothing better to kuntribbute except a cap and grammar comment...try another hobbee. Rant over.

Now back to the regularly scheduled program, any defensive player would be an awesome pick up for us, its well documented.  Big week to prepare for the visit to Happy Valley.  Go Blue.

Meant to say Clinton-Dix.  Don't want any kind of disrespect there.   You are right, I was hoping Marvin would take over that position.  Karlos is huge and fast.  He looked twice as big as Dee.  I think it was at the GridIron Kings when he took that interception all the way for a TD.  Both those guys had amazing interceptions for TD's.

I think there was a discusion of soft verbals earlier in the week. Scout/Rivals move players to "soft verbals" when they are committed and still going on official visits, it doesn't always mean they are not fully committed to their school. Sometimes the players are just going for a free trip, I desperately hope that is not the case with Karlos.

This would be awesome. I just noticed he's the #4 player in Florida to rivals, but the #11 guy nationally. That's nuts.

Not to be a donny-downer but is there anything less tangible and binding then a "soft verbal" given five months before signing day? Oh yeah....the BCS standings right now. But other than that.....

I suppose it is. My point though is that the ENTIRE pre-signing day process is complete bullshit. Nothing anyone says right now means a thing until signing day. The recruiting landscape is littered with players who said in october they were going to attend school A only to end up signing with school B. So what difference does any of it mean now?

If this is your opinion on the recruiting process, why in the f#*k would you click on a post that is clearly about recruiting and find it necessary to make a comment about what bullshit the recruiting process is? That makes absolutely zero sense at all.

If you feel this way, stop wasting your time by reading these posts and everyone elses by commenting on them.

I really hope I am wrong, but I can see this as the coaches showing so much love to Williams and Clinton-Dix, then in the end the 2 reaffirm their current committments.  Then Walls and Lyons look elsewhere when our focus is on these other two and we lose them as well. Our coaches really need to be good at reading here and if they think there is no better than 50/50 chance of landing Williams or Clinton-Dix, let them go and "settle" for the 2 4-star safeties.  We just can't get shutout here. I should really try to stay more posiive.

Not laughing at you, but at the situation you define. Hopefully, one or the other of Williams or HaHa commits to us, along with Walls.

FSU isn't a top power any longer, and I don't believe they will ever get there again. Many FL recruits are seeing this as well, and looking at UF and Miami, or going out of state.

6-1 and are sitting on top of their ACC division.  They get 3 of their toughest 4 games remaining at HOME.  NC, Clem and Florida.

Don't look now but those Seminoles who are not a top power are looking at a solid 10-2 season at worst probably 8 wins.

how much love they are showing to Walls and Lyons.  It's not like they don't understand the situation with Karlos and HaHa.  My bigger concern is with Lyons' injury after having gone through the whole Vlad thing.

Walls is priority one because he's been steadfast in his feelings for Michigan, Lyons dropped us at one point, and HaHa and Williams have gave verbals to other schools.  We won't know anything on HaHa until signing day anyways.

I asked the question about Lyons' injury in another thread, and it seems like it's not anywhere near major.  I thought about Vlad's situation as well.  I am far from a recruiting expert, but Lyons and Walls seems fairly close.  I think it's more important to get Walls because we have been on him for a long time and he was even been recruiting for us.  I do worry that Williams and Clinton-Dix are long shots, but I think we can use all 3 in different positions.

I've suffered numerous sprains of both ankles over the years, and in my experience a re-sprain gets progressively more likely to occur with each new sprain. Sprains stretch and weaken the ligaments, and they don't return to their previous state automatically.

No, we need talented, solid defensive players in a major way. If RR and staff devote so many recruiting resources going after guys who are very unlikely to commit to Michigan at the expense of other talented guys who are much more likely to select us, that would be a huge mistake.

We need to be going after Avery Walls and Wayne Lyons the hardest and lock one of those up at least. if we pull haha or Karlos on Signing DAy, that would be phenomenal, but with both of those two, the likelyhood is very low, lock up Avery and/or Wayne ASAP!

I agree with you, but at this point we just need talent on the defensive side of the ball regardless of position.  whether it is Safety, Spur, LB, or DL, we just need guys that can come in and play. We just need some playmakers!! Imagine what it would be like to win the turnover battle in a meaningful game, oh how nice it would be...
