Kandidaten für Ziss Veek in Schadenfreude, Ja??
Looking at this week's college football schedule of games, I don't know man.
Are there any probable or likely upsets that could get this season off to a roaring start of hopelessness, despair and "tears of unfathomable sadness"?
Week One Schedule (August 31): http://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/scoreboard/
Somehow I'd like to see Hawai'i blast USC and Kiffin's two quarterback approach after a week of Pat Haden incessantly (yet needlessly) supporting that decision.
Like most, I can't wait for the season to start.

That's because he was clearly speaking Polish. You uneducated Americans...

How do you know his little German is named Rusty?

I could go for a riot or two in Tuscaloosa led by that crying frat boy from the TAMU game after a loss to Virginia Tech.
August 29th, 2013 at 1:28 PM ^
I think it's much more likely we see it from the other end. Tech has no chance, and enough of their fanbase doesn't realize that for there to be some really good potential there.

Western over Michigan State would be fun.

And ever so delicious!

Schadenfreude is occassionally possible even in victory. Sparty's going to win, but the final score is going to be zero to negative seven.

6-0 Sparty. They get consecutive personal foul calls on their extra point attempt and wind up missing from 43.

I'm sure there will be some humorous overreaction from the fans of whoever loses the Georgia-Clemson and LSU-TCU games. Other than that, any upset of a ranked team would qualify.

Northern Illinois dominating Iowa would probably generate some funny reactions from the Iowa faithful.

Regarding the Hawaii-USC game, in the unlikely event Hawaii won (TeamRankings estimates this at 6.1% over several simulations), the fact that both teams are more or less comparatively hopeless on third downs (104th and 102nd in Division I) and in the red zone (112th and 101st in Division I) would be the best aspect of the schadenfreude. That's because it would probably end up being a 14-10 sleeper (or something like that) in such a scenario.
August 29th, 2013 at 1:01 PM ^
I'd like to see Hawaii take down SC too. Like you, I don't understand why Haden needs to come out and publicly support everything Kiffin does. He's like the husband who has to tell everyone he loves his wife. Why do you need to say it so much?
Let the record show, I like Pat Haden, I think he's a very good AD. It does seem like he's overselling the "I support Lane Kiffin" thing, but maybe that's because most people know he really doesn't.

It reminds me of Jerry Jones' perpetual blustering defense of Tony Romo, although Jones actually does seem to support Romo.

in beating UM.
WMU lost their top 4 receivers to injury(AWMWRHG), possess a thin brown(offensive) line, and a new coach/DJ/aspiring douchebag in PJ Fleck . This against a ferocious defense playing at night in a stadium filled with inebriated Spartans bent on sacking and burning Art Vans from East Lansing to Okemos in a saturnalia of coprolalia and penetralia.

I don't like to think about Schadenfruede..... the last time I got comfortable during a season opener, was '07.........

...is TWIS moving back to Monday. I know it probably isn't happening, but I really wish that it would. By Tuesday afternoon I've already moved on to next week's slate. A guy can only read "The Alphabetical" and wish it were TWIS so many times.

I could see North Dakota State beating Kansas State in a huge upset. NDSU is coming off back-to-back FCS National Championships while Kansas State lost their Heisman-contending quarterback and should regress quite a bit this year. The only thing going for them is that Bill Snyder is a wizard dressed as a human.

Surprised to not see pages of people bitching about the thread title. Good job Mgoblog.

I think Buffalo could knock off Ohio State.
Not really, but that'd be awesome.

Damnit, it's NEW YORK-buffalo now, guys

It's extremely unlikely, but SCar has more hype this year than at any point in their history, and losing to their football-indifferent neighbors to the north would both deflate them tremendously and lead to questions about SEC strength. It would be delicious.

Cock for SoCar fans.

Allegiance question to my fellow MGoBloggers. Why shouldn't we root for the Big Ten teams in the OOC schedule? The Big Ten is at a low point in recent years in terms of general respectability and performance. I live in SEC country, and I am tired of their arrogance. What benefit do we get in seeing Iowa or Indiana get hammered by an OOC foe? It just makes the whole conference look worse and reflects back on us. Ultimately, we want Michigan to be the toughest team in the toughest conference. To gain back some respect, we need all our neighborhood teams in the Big Ten to start winning OOC games. That's why I root for every* Big Ten team in OOC games, and I think it's weird to see so many people cheer for the Big Ten and root against them in the few OOC games they have.
* = except for OSU. That's the exception to the general rule. I'd love to see them go 0-10.
