Kampfer to Bring Stanley Cup to Ann Arbor on Aug. 25

Submitted by Raoul on

So Steve Kampfer is getting his day with Stanley Cup on August 25, but does anyone know whether or not he got his name engraved on it? I never heard either way.

Anyway, the mgoblue.com press release below has the details on Kampfer bringing the Cup to Ann Arbor and Yost Ice Arena. A Jackson Citizen Patriot article says he's also taking the Cup to Plymouth and Jackson, with details on the latter:

From 4-6 p.m., he will be in front of Daryl’s Downtown on Michigan Avenue, where fans can get autographs and have their picture taken with the Stanley Cup.

Kampfer is asking for a $10 donation to the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor in recognition of the work performed there to help his sister, Kristin, through numerous health challenges early in her life.

Here's the U-M press release:

Aug. 18, 2011

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Former University of Michigan ice hockey player and current member of the 2011 Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins Steve Kampfer (2007-10) will be sharing his day with the Stanley Cup with the U-M community on Thursday, Aug. 25. Kampfer will put the Stanley Cup on display from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the U-M locker room at Yost Ice Arena.

"I'm excited to bring the Cup back to the place that has made me the player I am today," said Kampfer. "Coming back to the place I wanted to play at since I was the age of four is a dream come true. I couldn't be more excited to share it with the great fans of Michigan as well. Without them, we wouldn't have the best rink to play college hockey in. I want fans to be able to see the Stanley Cup and enjoy the day with my family and friends."

Kampfer will be signing complimentary autographs. Pictures with Kampfer and the Stanley Cup will cost $10, with all proceeds being split between C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and the University of Michigan ice hockey program.

"The coaches and players I played with at Michigan deserve credit for helping me achieve the goals I have reached so far, which is why it's important to me to give back to the program," said Kampfer. "I've chosen to give back to Mott hospital because when I was younger my sister faced some challenges and she spent time going in and out of Mott, so it is a place that has touched home. The doctors and research conducted at Mott have given people a chance to have a better life and achieve some amazing accomplishments. I am giving back to them so more kids will have the chance to live a fulfilling life."

Kampfer became the 17th Wolverine alumnus to win the Stanley Cup, when the Bruins beat the Vancouver Canucks in game seven of the Stanley Cup Final on June 16, 2011. A rookie for the Bruins in 2010-11, Kampfer played 38 regular-season games, scoring five goals and five assists, earning a +9 plus/minus rating, and accruing 12 penalty minutes. Kampfer did not make an appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Kampfer was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. His rights were traded to Boston in March 2010.

Kampfer played four seasons at Michigan, accumulating seven goals and 53 assists over 147 games. He helped the Wolverines win the 2007-08 CCHA regular-season championship and the 2008 and 2010 CCHA Tournament titles.

The mods can certainly delete this if they want. All I can say is that when I posted this neither of the Kampfer items were showing up on mgo.licio.us on my computer--although they are now. There's something screwy going on with that section, and it may have to do with my running NoScript, which has messed up some other things as well. I swear I also just earlier saw an mgo-licio.us item on the Scout 100 for basketball, but now I don't see it.

You have to play in 41 regular season games or dress for one Stanley cup finals game to get your name on the cup. They make exceptions for injuries/family issues. So close... However, I'm sure the organization gave him a ring, which is still pretty cool.

Ward and someone else who I am blanking on [Edit - Knuble] brought the '97 Wings cup to the Big House.  It was during the height of the rivilary with the Avalanche and they brough to the Colorado game.  It was freaking awsome.

Ok I might sound really stupid/ignorant, but where exactly do you go in Yost? What entrance would I use to go to this? I haven't been to a Michigan Hockey game since I was like 5 so my knowledge of the place is practically nil
