Kalis tells Meyer to back off

Submitted by MGoCooper on

“Urban and the staff were recruiting me hard for a while but I have recently told them to back off some because I am firm with my commitment to Michigan,” Kalis said. “This trip just made me want to be at Michigan even sooner. I really got know some of my future teammates and my host Jack Miller showed me a great time.”

This should end any question about his commitment to Michigan. This kid is true blue, and will probably be the best guard at Michigan since Hutch. I get the feeling that he's starting to feed off the hatred that the Ohio fans give him, which is scary. I wouldn't want to give him any more motivation, because he's already a kid that can dominate in the trenches.

One of the best things about following Michigan football has been the ability to cheer for individuals who match ability with character, who develop before our eyes during their time in Ann Arbor.  Personal favorites.  There's a great long list and mine goes back to Dave Brown (R.I.P), through Stephan Humphries, Kurt Becker, Rob Renes, Glen Steele, Tyrone Wheatley, and certainly Hutch, to name some of the many.  And gimpy John Wangler.

We lose three guys this year who are on my list: Molk, Martin, and Van Bergen.

Fortunately, new ones arrive as old ones leave.  Kalis looks like one.

I would add Patrick Omameh to the list as well. I've never personally met the guy but one of my friends worked with him making those PSA's for the football games and says he's a genuinely nice guy. I've also heard that he's pretty smart from a friend who has a class with him.

Same deal with Kevin Koger.

Wow, I haven't heard Stephan Humphries name in a while. I bumped into him a few times during my school days and always, always came away extremely impressed with him as a person, not just an ass kicking OL. He was a heck of a smart guy.

How come the media isn't talking about this? Urban can take Ohio to national championship next year. Urban gets what he wants. Please so sick and tired about the talk

Whatever happened to the Big Ten coaches pact that they wouldn't go after other member's commits?  I ask this with a slight bit of sarcasm and seriousness.  Urban pulling over Se'von Pittman was what made me think back to that.  Obviously it is off the table, but did it ever exist to begin with?

I've been checking the board with a little trepidation recently, not wanting to see a "Kalis visiting Ohio" thread.  Great that this kid is firm, he's a monster recruit.  Wish he could early enroll

Urb made the mistake of thinking that if he could flip Pittman he could flip Kalis, ignoring that  Pittman's choice of MSU in the spring meant he was indeed dealing with a dumb kid. Kalis, not so much.
