Kalis on the QB position: "Everybody probably knows who it is"

Submitted by UMProud on

"The biggest question for weeks has been who will start at quarterback, junior Shane Morris, with limited game experience, or graduate transfer Jake Rudock, a two-year starter at Iowa.

“Everybody probably knows who it is,” offensive lineman Kyle Kalis said, smiling on Thursday."

because they'll all be starting in Harbaugh's new secret offense.

Why do you think he's trying to get 85 QBs on the roster?  (Even more innovative is Harbaugh's defense, in which we play 11 QBs and snap the ball to ourselves before the opposing center gets around to it.)

to my college football game, it's me, and spoiler, I'll win 4 heismans and 4 straight NC's, it's a good time to root for UM if you follow my CFB season...

Kevin Grady, Will Campbell, Shane Morris. Sometimes you need to accept that they just aren't the dominant players the recruiting websites led you to believe. I know its exciting when they put 5 stars next to a recruit's name, but they are far from infalable and they do get it wrong quite often. Shane is one of those instances. Hopefully he can mold himself into a competent backup to Rudock and O'Korn, but he's got some work to do before he's even at that level.

Not sure why you'd NEG a post like that because it's true and the one person who would most agree is Coach Harbaugh. Walk on or '5-star' doesn't matter once you're on The Team, The Team, The Team. It's all about competition, getting better and making The Team better.

All this 'well, from what limited information that is available and we really don't know for sure but I would say that probability is in Jake's corner....' $100 says its Rudock. Since the day his transfer was announced we've known it will be him and all signs point to him, regardless of the 'submarine.' Unless of course it's Peppers at QB. Somebody ask their brother who knows him again. It's really been Jabrill all along. The Rudock v Morris storyline was all a smoke screen.

Its continuing to not sound good for Shane. Really have to wonder if he's taken his last meaningful snap at Michigan, because if Rudock takes over this year, I'm not overly confident Shane will beat out the likes of O'Korn or Gentry next Fall.

Clearly, the OP encoded the answer to the burning QB question somewhere in the photo he included in his post. I've been trying to solve the mystery and I've concluded that the answer must be an anagram of 'Chobani'. Thus, the starting QB in the Utah game will be one of:

My money is on Bohican, but it's more of an uneducated guess than anything else at present.

I have it on good authority from my brother's neighbor's best friend from middle school, that Harbaugh is serious about getting his best 11 players on the field. That means two TEs with Butt and Bunting, Harris at wide out and the three RBs in a modified, hybridized version of the old single wing formation combined with the wishbone. That's right, they are going to run the T-Bone.

Ruddock for sure.  I think he fits well in a Harbaugh offense and that is why Harbaugh wanted him.  He is described as smart, accurate (leading to YAC) and somewhat robotic (in a good way) in his execution. These are good things in the Harbaugh/Drevno mechanized attack. His main weakness, lack of NFL arm cannon, is okay in this offense as we'll be running ahead of the chain and throwing to a squadron of TE's, blocky-catchy types, slant merchants and hopefully Drake Harris.  Hopefully his tendancy to check down too much will be mitigated by having better protection than he had at Iowa (and better qb coaching).

I'd guess that Kalis' definition of "everyone" in this particular context is "everyone on the team", not "everyone in the world".

That said, Rudock does seem to have the edge. And having just watched the spring game again last night and all the Morris overthrows and five-yard cannon shots that bounced off hapless receivers, what I MOST want to see this season, aside from beat ohio and beat little brother, is a QB who throws catchable balls to our receivers.
