I'm really happy to see Kalis get his 5 stars.  I knew he would get it, but thought it would come after or during the all-star game evaluations.  I had no idea that Rivals was planning on releasing an update, but I guess it makes sense since the HS season is mostly over.

Kalis' name should be instantly placed on the 2-deep somewhere along the line next year.   5 stars is just icing on the cake.   I'm hoping for Steve Hutchinson V2 (assuming he settles in at guard).

As I remember it, RJS was #97 and is no longer in the top 100 and they haven't released the 250 yet. Although honestly who cares at this point. The kid is what he is and that's clearly a great player and we have the coached to develop him.

On another note, who is Moana Ofahengaue?

Rivals says (not $) he visited 11/23 but I have not heard of him.

Rivals has him as a 205lb 6'4" (4.7) SDE

I remember reading about Moana about 2 months ago. From Utah. His dad went to BYU (which has offered him) and also played in the NFL. I watched some of his film. He WAS one of those under-the-radar guys that has a very good amount of potential. IIRC, he didn't have nearly as many offers as he does now. I think he only had a half dozen legit offers a few months ago but now they seem to be piling up (Oregon, FSU, Nebraska, Cal, Utah). Its so early to say, but I think this guy is a stud. I'd love to land him. He's got a motor, has a great frame to add some weight, and is a ball player. However.... He's moving to Arizona to live with AZ Cardinals' Deuce Lutui. I'm not sure if this means anything for Arizona or Arizona State (they both have offered him and he plans to visit ASU in January). Moana would be huge for us to land, as I think he'll be a future all-conference player but that conference very well may be the Pac-12.

...from the accompanying Rivals article about the guys who got bumepd to 5*.  On Kalis:

"In 10 years of covering recruiting, Kalis is one of the most college-ready offensive linemen I have seen. Physically he appears able to step on a college field right now, and his technique is advanced beyond his years,"

Nice to hear, since we may very well need him next year...

If Kalis plays for us next year, we are in deep shit.

Freshmen just do not play on the offensive line.

I hope he turns out to be as great as people are projecting, but no matter how good he is now, he can really use a redshirt.

I may be mixing him up with someone else, but didn't Jake Long play his freshman year and then redshirt the next year because he got hurt?  I seem to remember that, but I could be mixing him up with someone else.

However, even if that's not the case, that's not a good comparision.  We likely didn't need Jake Long as badly his frosh year as we'll need Kalis next fall.

Jake Long did redshirt his first year.

And this was while his position coach was telling people that he believed Long would turn out to be one of the best to ever play at Michigan.

Just goes to show you, as I said, every offensive lineman can use a redshirt.

And, Jake Long wasn't really needed his freshmen year, as they had All Big Ten tackles in Pape and Stenavich, but still. If none of our upperclassmen are better than a high school lineman, shame on us.

This recruiting class is absolutely awesome given the turmoil and circumstances the last several years leading up to now, but we as a fan base should remain grounded in our expectations.  Our team lacked the usual bevvy of UM NFL prospects from the 80's and 90's, and vastly overachieved this year. 8-4 would have been plenty acceptable given the circumstances, but we were blessed with 10-2.  Next year's class is just the first step, but certainly not the final step to restore UM to prominence.

Let us not say "We're back" unless by that we mean that we're on the right path.  These recruits and this staff clearly evidence that we are on the path, but for me, "we're back" means consistent BIG championship games and consistent appearances in BCS games.  As a kindness to our new staff, we should continue offering patience, and remember they as of yet do not have all the parts they require, and we must be ready for a turbulent 2012.  The schedule is brutal, and again, the team will be devoid of the usual assortment of upper class NFL prospects we were used to pre RR.

Side note, to Ohio fans who take comfort that UM isn't that good because we beat their 6-6 team and 'wait till next year.'  Well guess what?  We never said this was our juggernaut.   Most of us just hoped for no regression given the last time a first year coach took the reins, we ate 3-9.  We don't sit here as fans prideful of the football crushing monstrousity UM is right now.  We're proud of a team that overcame ridiculous adversity to exceed all expectations, oh, and end a dubious 7 yr streak.  That is all.

Continued support and patience for now, but two more recruiting classes like this in the next two years, and the tone will change, because mothereffer, we WILL BE BACK.
