Kalis named as finalist for Army Player of the Year

Submitted by drewro02 on

Did not see this posted, and my search function is not working for some reason, but Kyle Kalis has been named as one of 16 finalists for the Army National Player of the Year Award. Basically a who's, who of the 2012 class. Others of note are Diggs, Thompson, and Washington, but all these guys are obviously top recruits. Congrats to Kyle, and good luck.

Can anyone give ma an idea of how big a deal this award is? I see stuff like this a lot, but really don't grasp how big a deal these things are or aren't, both to the kids, and from the recruiting perspective.

Just for people who don't follow recruiting as much:

Rivals has 21 players awarded 5 stars right now. 12 of the 16 players on this list are Rivals 5 stars and therefore ranked in the top 21 in the nation by that site. The other four players  are ranked accordingly:

Kalis #22 (highest rated 4 star)

Trey Williams #25

T.J. Yeldon #34

Adolphus Washington #74

This shows what a huge honor this is for Kalis! There is only one other offensive lineman on this list so this basically shows that whoever made this list believes he is one of the best two OL's in the country.

I do however have 2 questions for other mgousers. Is the Army Player of the Year chosen mostly by those who work for Scout since this is where this article was posted? And I know Kalis dropped in some rankings this summer because he didn't attend camps like other players, so is this list compiled solely on the players senior season?
