Well, that just sucks.  Has there been any information as to what led to this?  I know that he was struggling, but did he say (or has there been information from reliable sources) as to why he chose to pack it in?

We didn't want him anyway!  Everyone knows he wasn't that good of a player, and the coaches hardly recruited him a few years ago.  No loss here.   /s

Barwis Shmarwis. Keep your kids in shape. Motivate him - whatever it takes. Earn your keep as a coach. Otherwise what good are you? Premium talent needs to be cultivated. This is pathetic.

What does this have to do with Barwis? If Turner wasn't getting in shape during the offseason, he doesn't have the mindset to play big time football. Motivate him with what? He already plays on a great football team that anyone else would kill to play for. This would be due to his own laziness, not our coaches.

Look, I am not going to flip out about it.  He struggled to get on the field and in the classroom. Michigan is not a good fit for everyone.  Best of luck to him and I hope he gets things straightened out at his new school.

I guess I see your logic.  This is no big deal right?  When I get upset about this I can just comfort myself with the knowledge that there are so many corners on the team ready to take his place and play in college and the Big Ten.... While Turner wasn't the corner (yet) that everyone hoped he would be, he was still solid enough to play in front of all of the incoming freshmen.  He was only a redshirt freshman.  He had a lot of potential and a lot of time to cultivate it.  This is a major blow to the team.  We had all better hope that neither Woolfolk or Floyd gets injured.

Look, if he wasn't ready to play, HE WASN"T READY TO PLAY!  He was helping anyone on this team.  I wish it was a different story, but it's not.  Doesn't look like he was going to play corner anyways so let it go man.

What evidence do you have that he was our #3 CB?  I don't ever recall the coaches coming out with a cornerback ranking, and anything else is blatant speculation.  From the spring, we only heard about Floyd and Woolfolk and there were only 2 other scholarship CB's on the team at that point.  It's very likely that had Turner stuck around, he was farther down the list than 3, because since he got to campus, I never heard anyone, coaches or otherwise, say Turner was better than anyone on our team.

The "he wasn't ready to play" stuff came from the fact that we had a horrible DB situation last fall, and he never sniffed the field.  And then after Warren left, no one spoke a good word about Turner, unless it was "I sure hope JT Turner can be good enough to play soon."

He hasn't transfered.  He's just received his release to transfer.  There is always a chance that he's feeling disappointed and frustrated and pissed and embarassed right now, but that this evening he'll sit down, think about it, and decide to stay.

It could happen.

Right?

Someone?

If you're talking about the events of today, then yes, he wasn't going to see the field.  But at the end of spring, there were some mixed reviews on him but he was the solid number 3 corner.  Which is where someone with mixed reviews would play, especially with the depth at corner on this team.  Again, he's only a redshirt freshman.  People shouldn't expect him to be incredible when he's playing one of the hardest positions to play on the field.

No reason to baby this kid, and certainly no reason to place blame on Barwis.  This kid doesn't have the toughness to compete for playing time and would rather just transfer out and head to a school that will give him automatic PT?  Good riddance.  No "best of luck to you" bullshit for this coward.

I'll take a roster full of Kovacs' before a bunch of entitled pansies like this kid.

We're all assuming that he was one of the kids that "wasn't in shape" to play D-1 ball. But do we know that? Could there be another reason? Just slow down.

I do hope he finds success, because I hope everybody finds success. If he wasn't going to be a player that would see the field this year, then that just makes it better for us. No worse for him.

Perhaps this is evidence that the newcomers (Courtney Avery, Cullen Christian, T Talbott) are doing well in practice.  Perhaps they are impressing and getting more snaps than JT.

For anyone:

-Turner had a chance for greath things.  His life won't be the same.

-The RR detracters will use this as fuel to their fire.  (But don't tell me Bo won't have done the same exact thing).

-The team is somewhat weakened by the player's absence.

-This will help opponents to continue to negatively recruit michigan.

I hope JT Turner has a huge wake up call from this whole experience, and when he looks in the mirror blames no one but himself.  I will root for him to turn his career around at another institution.  I'd rather the young man learns a lesson than throws away his life.

Don't care. It isn't like turner was going to see the field anyway this season. He is fat, lazy, doesn't take every play seriously, and is a cancer. Addition by subtraction. I trust true freshman over turner, who is basically a tackling dummy.

players that are serious about football!  From what it sounds like Turner never put in the time and didn't take it seriously.  Good luck to him.

Yeah, he wasn't supposed to be a starter, but he would have had some PT this year. That means whoever his replacement is (Cullen, Teric, etc.) hopefully plays well. We can't pretend this doesn't hurt. It shouldn't affect our record this year, but this probably means that our secondary will be another big question mark next year with Woolfolk gone. We know Floyd played well in spring, but no one particularly impressed me last year. Even our backup corners weren't great against Delaware State. We need T-Wolf and Floyd to stay healthy, and hopefully we have a serviceable 3rd guy.
