Junior Hemingway is Clutch
Yes we're all pumped that Denard led us to another last minute victory, but lets not forget the guy who made 2 spectacular plays, including that jump ball that put us in the RZ with 21 seconds left. Props to you Junior, here's to hoping you don't sneeze and hurt yourself this week. Hemingway, Stonum, and Roundtree are all going to need to have huge games against MSU, because their LB core is all going to be playing QB Spy all game long.

He dropped a Touchdown last week that didn't mean anything. This week he made the play of the game.

That's why I chose the word clutch rather than surehanded. No one called Braylon surehanded, but he definitely brought the ball down when it mattered.

lol like when he dropped it against OSU in 2004 on that 4th and 1?

Damn beat me to it.

That play still gives me nightmares.

Everyone drops a pass now and then. Even Jason Avant did. Word is that Junior has the best hands on the team.

I agree. But he wore the number one jersey. that was a BIG mistake for someone wearing that.

Love Denard but after that play the commentators were so quick to give credit to denard for a throw that was pretty much a jump ball. Junior made the biggest play of the game today.

amazing.

Denard will have to have better deep accuracy to have a chance next week. 3 deep balls where we had single converage, or a man open behind coverage where he didn't even give the receiver a chance.
Obviously not criticizing Denard (guy is superhuman), but to be a great team we gotta execute what is given to us.

But he left a couple touchdowns on the field with poor touch on the deep ball.

I tried to make abundantly clear I didn't want to criticize Denard, apparently I failed, so I'll say it again. Not trying to slight Denard, but to win a big game against a better opponent we would have needed those plays.

I was just prefacing my own remark

I'm hoping that the reason he overthrew all those deep balls was because he was a little extra-hyped for his first Big Ten start (on the road, no less)...
October 2nd, 2010 at 8:37 PM ^
he rushed a couple of those long balls and just seemed less confident after hurting his knee again in my opinion.
October 2nd, 2010 at 8:42 PM ^
He was off-target on some deep balls against ND, too. Yeah, it might be him getting a little too anxious on the road. Fortunately, we're coming home for the next two games.
October 2nd, 2010 at 8:35 PM ^
It's too bad he didn't give his recievers a chance to make a play on the other deep balls. I think our receivers are vastly underrated.
October 2nd, 2010 at 8:38 PM ^
He gets too excited on the deep ball and throws it a second too early. Calm down Denard! You had the time. Nice and easy throw.
October 2nd, 2010 at 8:23 PM ^
I agree, he threw some nice balls against UMASS, but failed to do so today. I guess we don't really know how sore he was after he came back into the game. Hopefully not too bad and we get Shaw and Toussaint back for next wk.

There isn't a LB in the game who can catch Denard in the open field. The only way any team will ever come close to rendering a healthy Denard ineffective is if they have a 4.3 CB spy on him. There aren't many of those in the conference.
October 2nd, 2010 at 9:11 PM ^
on that long throw and took a major smack in order to get that ball off to Hemingway. Clutch and double clutch imo.
October 2nd, 2010 at 9:17 PM ^
also see: denard is clutch, the offensive line is clutch, roy roundtree is clutch, the defense is clutch.

Huge plays by Hemingway today.
As for the long tosses by Denard, I would much rather he underthrow it on those one-on-one deep passes than overthrow it to tacopants, b/c the receiver can either adjust and try to come back for the catch and either make the play or get the defender to steamroll him for a free 15 yards and a first down. As a counterpoint though, that's 15 less yards for Denard to run, tough call.

I think the hit Denard took as he threw the ball took quite a bit off the pass. I think he was lucky to get the ball to go that far at all.
