type in his words as you hear them - then, we can debate whether JUB actually knows something or just has an axe to grind.

someone will also mention that his class is really great.

finally, someone else will make the case for retaining Hoke, because perhaps no coach that is better is available and with good qb play actually the team would be quite good.

I know who he is. I was just extremely disappointed that pros like Sam and Ira weren't there and a potentially informative John Bacon segment was in the hands of hacks like Morris and whoever the other guy is. We're 45 minutes into the segment and we've learned nothing.

I was in a 2.5 hour Continuous Improvement workshop yesterday and all the time while me and others were speaking about various tools and problem solving methods and running breakout sessions, the amount of Facebook / e-mail time logged had to be a near-record for the building. I swear someone in the back was balancing their checkbook while making it appear as though they were reading all the handouts too.

Spicoli spending all his reward money on Van Halen playing his birthday party is up there with "Senator and Mrs. John Blutarsky" at the very top of where are they now movie endings.

Oh and Three and Out and CC: and what if we beat OSU and stuff.

It's one thing to talk about it but announcing on twitter in advance that you'll be talking about it for 10 specific minutes may be bordering on the ridiculous.  Does he really have anything new to say?

I do t see the big deal. If bacon is going to be speaking on the air, what's wrong with him alerting those who follow him that he will be doing so, so that they can tune in and listen, if they so desire. The tweet only goes to those who affirmatively choose to follow bacon on Twitter.

Clamato is a tomato juice, I think reconstituted then boiled with clam broth and a bunch of spices. Personally, I recommend the "spicy" version and vodka it up yourself for the Caesar (the cans are a bit on the light side). They sell a bunch of varieties in pints in the Great White North.

FWIW, if you go to Winnipeg or Calgary you can order it mixed with beer the so-called "Beer and Clam".

i was on a biz trip in mexico and my mex hosts ordered me 1

i was so thirsty from not being able to drink water all day - all I wanted is to order a bottle of water

so I slammed the michealada and they think I love it so they order me another, I drink that one fast as well trying to catch the waitress to order a juice or something, but they keep getting to her before me

long story short, I go thru like 7 of these before I get to a bottle of water

I heaved my guts out that night in a double tree in queratero mexico

1st segment gave us nothing. No inside info or even rumors. Just taking calls and chatting about how Schlissel has to understand that athletics is a big part of Michigan and he needs to come to peace with that.

Was the implication that Schlissel still doesn't get it or is not at peace with the role of sports at Michigan? If so, serious question, why the hell would he take the job? I get it that we are a really prestigious worldwide university, but we are also a university that is inextricably linked to big time college football and even basketball. What was he thinking coming in, that he would just ignore those aspects? I like Schlis so far - but I am troubled by this nagging perception that he is hostile towards sports at Michigan.

It's way too early to know what Schlissel wants and where he'll take Michigan athletics.  At the moment, I'm feeling like there's about a 60% chance that he takes it in a positive direction, a 30% chance that nothing comes of it (because he decides this isn't the hill he wants to die on), and a 10% chance that he actually goes too far in a damaging way.

Then again, I'm probably more tolerant than most of integrity at the expense of wins in college football.  But I also care about wins and I think that a lot of things that people talk about as integrity issues really aren't (e.g., see Brian's excellent post yesterday).

My one particular concern, which I haven't really seen talked about, i sthat for all the lauding of his truth-telling (and more power to him for that), the fact that he had to walk back some of his comments is evidence of a significant gaffe on his part.  The man should have taken the time (or had someone on his staff take the time) to figure out what the numbers mean with regard to current programs, not simply look at a five year graduation rate and exclaim 'that's terrible!'.  Surely he'd do a little more due diligence in his medical research.  Whether he likes it or not, this is part of his job now, and it is incumbent upon him to do these things right.  That, obviously, is what he's trying to do here, but reflexive "Sports are bad' statements are no better than 'Winning at all costs'.

I do think that the idea that he won't pursue the best AD or allow that AD to pursue the best coach (in line with U-M's mission) is ridiculous and not really based on anything.

and suppose that Schlissel is genuine man willing to speak his mind even as he continues feeding it and developing it. Of course, I'm contrasting him with the outgoing AD when I do this. So far, his actions appear to all be hitting the spot.

on his every word.

It's a sad day when I start to get sick of John U. Bacon, who has suffered so much and done so much. But we are up to our asses with his sanctimony.

If I had any discipline at all I would stay away from here until after the OSU game.
