Eleven Warriors:

"According to two sources within the Columbus Police Department, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while impaired (OVI) early Saturday morning near campus.

Barrett was arrested near High and Tompkins, just north of Campus after policed noticed the player attempt to avoid an OVI checkpoint in the area. Per CPD sources, Barrett was cooperative and blew into a breathalyzer, registering slightly over Ohio's legal limit of 0.08 blood-alcohol concentration.

The quarterback was released to his teammate, fellow quarterback Cardale Jones, who provided Barrett a ride home.

Ohio State did not respond to a request for comment.

We'll have more on this as it develops."

Pretty crazy. You hate to see this regardless of the situation or circumstances.

Ohio State is on its bye week this week.

0.082, so what is that? Like 2 or 3 beers in a hour?

I got no problem with him drinking a couple beers but he never should have got behind the wheel.

He should have found a ride.

Do you know how cool it would have been for somebody to drive the starting qb home. That person would tell that story to his/her friends for years.

"did I ever tell you about the time I had to drive JT Barrett home"

Why anyone drinks and drives seems insane to me, especially now with all the ride options available. I assume he will just miss the one game, as OSU will need him against MSU and UM.

1) If he did in fact blow .082,  that is so close to the limit that he wouldn't have even been charged in Canada.  The legal limit is .08 in Canada but generally speaking charges are not laid unless the driver's BAC is .10.  This practice allows for any deviations involving the intoxiilyzer/breathalyzer used and any other variant issues.

2) if he had  blown even a few minutes later, he would have been under.  Alcohol dissipation occurs at a rate of approximately .015.    So theoretically if he had blown 12 minutes later he would have blown .079

3)  your BAC is only one issue that determines your level of impairement.  I have seen chronic drunks blow well over .200 and seem as sober as a judge.  I have seen people blow .04 and be impaired.  In Canada there are two seperate offences, one for driving with your BAC over the legal limit and one for driving while impaired.  You can be none, one or both.  Ontario also has a zero alcohol offence for any driver under 22 yrs old but it is more of a traffic ticket.

I once brought a roadside screening device to a halloween party.  Most people passed or blew a warn.  All of those also stated that there was no way they would drive because they had a buzz on.

I spent 30 years getting drunks of the road and was actually involved in an fatal accident with a DUI (yes, I'm the one who lived) so I am in no way condoning this behaviour.

It's stupid and I'm thankful that nobody was hurt but I reserve judgement and hope this kid learns from this.

As for the one game suspension, this seems consistent with what other teams have doled out

In the US, most likely he would have beaten the court case with a 0.82 (assuming that's correct) and if he were lucky wouldn't even be charged. The breathalyzers aren't that accurate and a lawyer would simply argue that the machines weren't calibrated, we're off a bit...

However, he's 21, so none of that applies.

If he had just finished drinking then his bac woulda increased before it went down. The longer her waited prob would have resulted in a higher test. I can say this from my experiences in defending ovi's in ohio. Plus its my understanding he was pulled over trying to avoid a checkpoint which is posted a few days before, just plain stupid to drive if you know a checkpoint is nearby & you've had more than a few drinks.

Not great for JT. Being a minor he might have more to deal with there than he does with the OVI. Definitely a bad look for him to try to see the checkpoint and turn around like that and still get caught. He obviously knew what that he shouldn't have been driving. If he wasn't worried about it then why did he turn around?

What really sucks for Ohio State, is that they no longer have Jim Tressell on staff to go to with problems such as this one.

Jim would create the old "Hey lets switch the license plate and fool the police" like he did with his D Lineman who got the DUI a few years ago...

Hey it worked in 2010....

He'll be back no later than two weeks from now, but it speaks more to his maturity level when he chooses to drink and drive when his team is in the midst of trying to win another national championship.

I was stopped at the same check point. Except I was in an Uber car. They placed the checkpoint right in the middle of OSU campus and I had a feeling someone from the football team was going to get caught.

Did he get an MIP as well?  The 0.08 limit probably doesn't matter since he's 20.  Any alchohol while driving should be a DUI and MIP.

hopped in his car to do his "jail ministry" in columbus as soon as he heard.  no connection with the fact that he's going to need a qb after cook "graduates."

After knowing this law, there is no strictness. Before 21 age, teenages start drinking. Yes, I agree that many do this, not many, I would say ALL. But it's our country, so we should take care of the laws and rights. It's important for everyone to more about it.
